With the lessons learned from recent school shootings, including Sandy
Hook Elementary School, the Los Angeles Unified School District revised
and updated its Emergency Procedures for critical incidents, including
active shooters. L.A. School Police Department Deputy Chief Timothy J.
Anderson will discuss the reason for the changes.

The course will provide an overview of pre-incident indicators,


preparation and threat assessment, methods to identify the differences
between a Lockdown situation and an Active Shooter, including Rapid
Relocation. The course will help school personnel identify expectations
and law enforcement response during an Active Shooter event.
Participants will be able to present the information to district decision
makers so they can update or revise their policies and procedures, train
staff and improve safety.
Deputy Chief Anderson is a 22-year veteran of the Los Angeles School Police
Department. Deputy Chief Anderson holds a bachelors degree in Organizational
Management from the University of La Verne and a masters degree in Emergency
Services Administration from California State University Long Beach. Deputy Chief
Anderson is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, West Point Leadership
Academy, FBI LEEDA Command Institute, National Counter-terrorism Academy, CA
POST Executive Development Course, and the International Counter-terrorism Course
(Israel).
