Bio
Joseph Ari Aloi, aka JK5, is an impassioned, prolific multidisciplinary artist with an unstemmable
tide of talent. Hes been repeatedly tapped by the global marketplace for his distinctive approach
to design, illustration and letterforms, and his 20 years as a tattoo artist have rendered him
compatriot to creatives of varying infamy the world over.

From 1997-2002, Aloi ran his own tattoo shop, and since moving to New York in 2003, has
worked alongside some of the most revered names in tattooingthree years with Duke Riley of
East River Tattoo, five years with Scott Campbell of the venerable Saved Tattoo in all three
locations, three years with the legendary Daredevil in Manhattans Lower East Sideand is now
settled at the mighty Three Kings Tattoo in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

In 1999, along with close friend and fellow RISD alum, Matt Clark, Aloi published the 432-page
hardcover book Subconsciothesaurusnex. It documents Alois irrepressible output from 1977
1999, ranging from childhood drawings of KISS, Jesus and Star Wars to sketchbook highlights,
drawings and tattoos from the later years. In 2010, Aloi authored and curated TATT BOOK with
Rizzoli Universe, which featured the work of 26 innovative tattoo artists (himself included) from
around the world. He wrote an introduction from a tattoo artists perspective, and legendary
cultural critic Carlo McCormick contributed the other, rooting the ancient art form in cultural and
historical contexts. Both of these tomes continue to be revisited today, acting as a catalyst for
new relationships and opportunities.

Aloi has collaborated with Nike, Kidrobot, Mishka, Timex, Barneys, Camel, Wieden+Kennedy,
Saks Fifth Avenue and Converse, to name a few. His work has been exhibited through Deitch
Projects, Alife NYC, and other international galleries, and his tattoos are sought after by art
directors, designers, typography fans, artists, musicians, and celebrities such as the late, great
Heath Ledger, Penelope Cruz, Kelly Ripa, Marc Jacobs, and the king, Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys.

Father of 5-year-old Twyla Maggie Snowdrop and 20-month-old Sayer The Slayer Lee Sunrider,
Aloi creates work that is at once profoundly personal and persistently populist, moved by all
manner of current events and pop culture. His work is a color-wonderful expression of the
cosmic, an intuitive enthusiasm for living, a present human engaging with the world.

Happening
Released worldwide on March 4, 2014, Rizzoli has published Alois third book and first
monograph, entitled Joseph Ari Aloi AKA JK5: Sketches, Tattoos, Drawings, Paintings and Objects.
The 280-page, 8 x 10" book was inventively designed and art directed by Alois dear friend David
Wylie Mashburn, and is a continued exploration of the personal, revelatory and pop-cultural
themes that shape the artists powerful and distinctive style.

An epic NYC launch party, signing, and installation was held on March 12, 2014 at Dienst +
Dotter. Jill Dienst, a preeminent authority on Scandinavian antiques, furniture and artifacts,
hosted the event in her gorgeously massive SoHo showroom, giving Aloi free reign to create
within. Along with design partner Mashburn, Aloi transformed the striking space with a custom
centerpiece: a Plexiglas-covered table that showcased original ephemera, collages of drawings,
objects and elements from the bookmany offered to buy the table on the spot. Books were
displayed and integrated throughout the space, an open invitation for guests to peruse and
absorb as they enjoyed hors doeuvres and made themselves comfortable on the rare chairs and
couches that make up Dienst + Dotters inventory. Rizzoli staff was on hand to process the
constant sales, and excited guests lined up for Aloi to customize, with color and care, their
personal copy of the monograph. In addition to stellar book sales, a series of limited edition
silkscreen prints also sold fast.

In the weeks following the event, Aloi and Dienst have begun a new collaboration. The two first
met after Aloi tattooed Jills husband, Dan, CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Dan saw
exciting potential in his wife and Aloi doing business together, collaborating on special projects
and introducing Alois work to a larger audience. The result is Alois new consultancy with Dienst
+ Dotters clientele and collectors, considering unique pieces of antique furniture with spirited
histories and stories that will inform and inspire new designs using wood burning tools, paint,
tattooing and other media. The Diensts see this as a one-of-a-kind collaboration in an
unexpected market that will allow Aloi to expand his vision into an entirely new field.

Aloi is available to partner with brands, stores, galleries, showrooms and other spaces in Los
Angeles (& beyond) that are interested in collaborative adventure. Those who see the unique
connectivity and imaginative breadth in the vast range of Alois myriad sensibilities are brave,
innovative and open to taking an exciting and deeply inspired trip with a hand and mind like no
other. Theyre people who love the work and see what this book embodies for the unfolding
future of aesthetics. Installation concepts will be site-specific and include murals, integrating
work into existing store format, creating limited-edition products to be sold at event and
anything else to be dreamed up. Current LA community interest and relationships include the
Ace Hotel, Hennessey + Ingalls book store, Apple and Chateau Marmont.

Allday + JK5
Alois relationship with Othelo Gervacio, Kevin Kearney, Robb Blumeke, Jake Sumner and Andrew
Runkle goes back to 2005 and the original SAVED days. As he sees it, Alldayeveryday is the
inevitable result for all these brilliant young men and their pursuit of greatness, each with their
own skill set. Says Aloi, Ive been inspired and in awe ever since. I've tattooed them all, some a
whole lot. They inspired me with their taste, style, hunger for NYC, raging youthful energy,
network and creative and intelligent command of anything they set their mind to. I love this
crew, the truth is, I miss them, I want to create wildly fun, inspiring, distinct and memorable
events with them.

There's no team thats better suited to and can get more interesting eyeballs on the new JK5
monograph, as evidenced by endeavors like the Newsstand, a brilliant idea and use of a dormant
space. ALLDAYKAYFIVE, or JKALLDAY makes perfect, harmonious sense here. Its the right time
and project to come full circle with a home base of homies, a band of brothers, gang of geniuses,
a nest of nerds, a mighty, magnificent meeting of the mindsobviously, new tats are part of the
deal.

The right sponsor loves the work and wants to be a part of a brilliant team, supporting an artist
book launch for the left coast with a highly individualized visual vernacular, one that makes sense
to all parties involved. A ballpark $20-40k, based on the NYC event, is estimated for the LA
launch. This includes airfare for the artist and designer, cost of shipping the books/artwork,
expenses for any and all matter of the event/plan.

Alldays LA headquarters is the gateway to a brilliant base that Aloi would love to engage with
and know, a base that could cultivate all kinds of creative and lucrative opportunities, a new,
expanded audience, now coast to coast.
