Being in the Way
There is a big We need to pray for our singles and our

way and “being in
the way.” When a

for Isaac, he had
been praying that the Lord would
“make his journey successful” (Genesis
24:21). I love the King James Version
rendering of verse 27: “I, being in the
way, the Lord led me to the house of my
master’s brethren.” The Lord wants to
guide us as we pray about His plan and
desires that we “walk before Him” and
trust “His angels to make our journey
successful” (Genesis 24:40). God steers
a moving car, not one which is standing
still. As we are “in the way” of following
and serving Him, He has an amazing
way of surprising us with His direction.
As Janet and I were “in the way”
preparing to serve in the Lord’s church,
“The house of our brethren,” we were
both attending Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary. Though we were
friends, I had not considered dating
her until I sat next to her in Chapel on
February 12, 1975. I spontaneously
asked this lovely, young “Rebekah” to
go to dinner. This is why we celebrate
our first date on February 12 and make
it a very special day!

these things,” including God-appointed
relationships, will fall in place if it is the
Lord’s will.
We also are called to “be in the way”
of honoring our Master’s “house” and
kingdom. We urge you to join our
journey not only in membership but in
vision, commitment, prayer, and giving.
The Lord is doing a great work in this
place, but we must pray like Abraham’s
servant: “O Lord, please grant us success
and show loving kindness” (Genesis
24:12). May the Lord “make our journey
prosperous” (Genesis 24:21). Don’t get
in His way, but get in and on the way.
He will then say to us, “Come in, blessed

since I have prepared the house and a

This mission is a support ministry for families who are

called to adopt children domestically and internationally.

Adoption is a Great Commission priority. Some Christians

are called to adopt an orphan, while others are called to
equip and support those in the process.

Throughout the Scriptures, the people of God have been called

upon to minister to and bless children who are orphaned by death
or desertion. Therefore, it becomes an act of simple obedience
and expression of the love of God.

Champions are church members who are needed to
coordinate/lead many ministries within First Baptist. This
week we are highlighting:
DivorceCare
DivorceCare is a video seminar series featuring some of
the nation’s foremost Christian experts on divorce and
recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The
video seminars are combined with support group
discussions. In addition, DivorceCare for Kids helps
children whose parents are separated or divorced,
providing them help with healing and encouragement.
The volunteer champion will be responsible for
scheduling support groups for adults and children,
recruiting & assigning leaders for the groups, and staying
abreast of new offerings from the ministry.

The weekly commitment is expected to be four hours.

The champion can be a seasonal resident.
