Spring 2015 CS202 Communications

II Final Exam
Dear Students,
The following 4 essay topics may be on your final exam. For the exam,
there will 2 out of the 4 topics and you will choose 1 topic to write
about. The exam is 45 minutes. You need to use your text book as a
reference. In your essay, I expect that you will be able to show me that
you used the book as a resource (I even included pages for reference
below from the index). You need to write a 3 paragraph essay if you
know little English and a 4 paragraph essay if you know English
for the final exam (introduction with thesis, 1-2 supporting
paragraphs and a conclusion).
Please see the Edmodo post with an essay writing outline. There are also
essay writing books in PDF form on Edmdo and on e-learning. We will
continue discussing essay writing during your review for the exam.
You may outline or draft the 4 essays at home. Academic outlining and
drafting is never a waste of your time. Your writing can only improve the
more you write and it will improve over time.
You may make an
appointment with me so I may review your draft or outline before the
exam.
Good luck. I think you will be more interested in these topics since you
will be discussing your country and another country of your choice, for the
most part (read the topics carefully).

Chapter 1 The Nature of Intercultural

Communication

Essay Topic: Define a subculture and give examples of at least two

subcultures in your country. For analysis you may write about one or a
combination of the following premises:
(1) Describe the norms, behaviors and attitudes of two subcultures in your
country.
(2) Are there communication barriers between the two subcultures?
Explain.
(3) You may explain how the two subcultures are different and similar to
each other based on your own criteria and the criteria from the book.

Essay Topic: Explain what is meant by equality. Does the term mean
the same thing in other countries? For analysis you may write about
one of the following premises:
(1) Explain what equality means in your country.
(2) Compare the similarities and differences of what equality means in
your country compared to one other country of your choice.

principles, goals, or standards accepted by persons in a culture. They
establish what is proper and improper behavior as well as what is normal
and abnormal behavior.
