Lesson: UNIT 7 Wheels Reported Questions
Type: Acquisition of new knowledge
Aims: revising reported speech,teaching reported question in relation with reported
speech.
Objectives: at the end of the class, students will be able to:
- use correctly reported speech;
- choose the correct tense of the verb in reported speech\questions;
- recognizing non-defining relative clauses in a context;
- create interest in the topic;
- stimulate their imagination;
- be confident in them when speaking a foreign language.

Techniques:
- explaining, demonstrating, analogies, word interpretation, the exercise technique, pair

STAGES OF THE LESSON:

ACTIVITY 1: ORGANISATIONAL MOMENT (1`)


PROCEDURE:

T. enters the room, greets the Ss., asks if there are any absentees. The S on duty tells the
absentees if there are any.
AIM: - to assure the introductive part of the lesson..
TECHNIQUES : discussion.
INTERRACTION : T-->Ss; Ss-->T;

ACTIVITY 2: CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (3`)


PROCEDURE:
T. asks the Ss. about their homework checking it frontally (What was your homework for
today?) and then individually by verifying Ss` notebooks. T. asks questions about their
homework and the Ss. answer the questions.
AIM: - to check the acquiring of previous knowledge and to give the Ss. feedback regarding
their work at home.
TECHNIQUES: Questioning;

ACTIVITY 3: WARM UP (5`)


PROCEDURE:
T. gives Ss. flashcards with different direct speech phrases they need to transform in indirect
speech. After they resolve the task, they will correct themselves using the information on the
back of their cards. Some of them will write the correct answers on the blackboard.
AIM: - to check the acquiring of previous knowledge regarding reported speech and prepare the
for the new topic.
TECHNIQUES: Individual work, Questioning;

ACTIVITY 3: REVIEWING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (3`)
PROCEDURE:
T. Asks the Ss. What changes occur during transformation of direct speech into reported
speech?. Students answer the question and T. walks them through a slide regarding the changes
mentioned.

AIM: - to check the acquiring of previous knowledge regarding reported speech and prepare
the for the new topic.
TECHNIQUES: Speaking

ACTIVITY 4: ACQUIRING NEW KNOWLEDGE (5`)


PROCEDURE:
T. announces the topic of the new lesson (Reported questions) and write it on the blackboard.
Then he presents examples with the changes that occur during the transition between direct
question to reported question.
AIM: - to inform Ss about the topic they are going to learn.
- to to assure a better comprehension of the topic.

ACTIVITY 5: READING AND ACQUIRING THE NEW VOCABULARY (8`)


PROCEDURE: T reads the two pieces of text at p.58, in order for the Ss to hear a proper
pronunciation (model reading) and for the Ss to familiarize with the text. T then guides the Ss in
finding the meaning of the unknown words through analogies and Ss put them down in their
notebooks and T on the board.
AIMS: - in order for the Ss to hear a proper pronunciation and intonation and thus to get
familiarized to the text, and to put the Ss in the situation of getting implied in the topic.

ACTIVITY 6: COMPREHENSION OF THE TEXT AND OF NEW KNOWLEDGE (5`)

PROCEDURE:
T asks the Ss to read exercise no. 2b from page 58 in the textbook and to find the information it
requires from the text.
AIMS: -to verify and assure the comprehension of the text.
- use and consolidate the Ss` vocabulary.
SKILLS: reading, writing, speaking.
TECHNIQUES: Individual Work.

ACTIVITY 7: USING THE NEW ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE 15


PROCEDURE:
T asks Ss to form groups and gives Ss. handouts regarding reported questions with exercises
they have to solve. Ss start working and T supervises the Ss walking among the groups. The
group`s leaders read the results of their work in turns, making corrections where and if necessary.

Aims: - to put the Ss in the situation of using the new acquired knowledge.
-to consolidate and use the new acquired knowledge.

ACTIVITY 8: SETTING HOMEWORK (4`)


Procedures:
T. asks the students to write a magazine article based on the following question using both
reported questions and direct speech.
a. What kind of car has your family got?

b. Who can drive in your family?


c. How often do you use the car?
d. When do you go out in it?
e. Where do you go by car?
f. Why do you like/ dislike cars?
Aim: -to consolidate and use the new acquired vocabulary related to transport and reported
speech and questions.
Interaction: T->Ss.
Type: Written assignment.

ACTIVITY 9: EVALUATION (1`)


Procedures: T appreciates Ss` activity both verbally -praising the activity of the Ss- and also by
giving marks.
Aim: -to increase Ss` self confidence and encourage them in their study of English.
Interaction: T->Ss.
