It is my great pleasure to recommend to you Ms. Phan Thi Hoang Yen, who was my
student in Faculty of Business Law of Hanoi Law University in Hanoi, Vietnam twelve
years ago, and is now a colleague whom I enjoy to work with. I am always impressed
of her realism and eagerness to knowledge, though as my student or associate.
Possessing a lot of attributes which will make her successful in whatever task she
undertakes, Yen is a unique candidate who deserves some recognition for her
abilities and performance.
In the second year in law school, she decided to follow a bachelor degree in
economics at the same time, while still taking a part-time job as a tutor for some
pupils to support her living. I advised her that such a distraction might negatively
affect her grade, and an average-scored diploma meant fewer opportunities in a
competitive labor market. Yet she insisted that it would be impractical to be a
business lawyer without economic background, and what she was struggling was
nothing but building a solid foundation for her future career. And she was right. After
graduation, even without an excellent grade, she was recruited by an international
well-recognized law firm, a chance which very few fresh graduates might have.
Law Practice and Consultancy Centre under Hanoi Law University has been
established several years ago, which provides students and graduates opportunities
to expose to practice environment and promotes all forms of researches, and I was
pleased to offer Yen to join us as an ad-hoc associate. Her work, whether in the form
of researches or legal opinions for legal projects or consultancy provided for our
clients, is highly appreciated because of its reality and applicability. In addition, she is
popular with students and graduates studying and training in the Centre for her
dedicated guidance and knowledge sharing.
