Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Basic Steps
Defining a tunnel database basically consists of three
parts
Definition of the tunnel courses as 3D tracks
tunnel axis
Definition of tunnel tube cross section(s)
Assignment of a cross section to each track
segment

by AWE Communications GmbH

10

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Track (1/2)
Definition of two tunnel portals for each track
Definition of 3D tracks by placing additional nodes between the portals
Connection of nodes with splines or straight lines
Definition of tunnel junctions
Bitmap of the tunnel course can be loaded as background to simplify the
positioning of the nodes

by AWE Communications GmbH

11

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Track (2/2)
Available track geometries can be managed in the track list

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Cross Section (1/3)
Definition of tunnel cross section (line, arc, circle)
Bitmap of the tunnel cross section can be loaded as background to simplify
the positioning of the segments
Line editing tools simplify designing arbitrary shaped cross section
geometries

Cross Section (2/3)
Object properties for each cross
section segment
Segment group

Prediction plane
Additional data
Definition of holes
Assignment of individual material
properties
Editing geometry parameters

by AWE Communications GmbH

14

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Cross Section (3/3)
Available cross section geometries can be managed in the cross section list

15

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Assignment of Cross Sections
Available cross section geometries can be assigned to marked
track segments

by AWE Communications GmbH

16

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Validation of Tunnel Geometry
The tunnel database should be checked for consistency
Cross sections must consist of a closed curve of segment group Wall
A cross section has to be assigned to each track segment
Tunnel tube outline has to be a single closed curve without
intersections

by AWE Communications GmbH

17

Creation of a New Tunnel Database

Export of Tunnel Geometry
Tunnel geometry can be exported to WinProps indoor database format
Wave Propagation and Radio Network Planning with ProMan
Possibility to simplify database during export
