UpdatingtheIMMfirmware
YoucanusetheCMMwebinterfacetoupdatetheIMMwiththemostcurrentfirmware.
SeveraltoolsareavailabletohelpyouupdatethefirmwareanddevicedriversfortheXArchitecturecomputenodesinyourchassis.You
canusetheCMMwebinterfacetoupdatetheIMM(alsoreferredtoasIMMIIorIMM2)firmware,howeverthefollowingtoolsaretypically
usedtoapplyfirmwareupdatestoXArchitecturecomputenodes:
FlexSystemManagerUpdateManager
FlexSystemManagerUpdateManager(ifinstalled)acquires,installs,andmanagesfirmwareanddevicedriverupdatesandmonitors
yourcomputenodestoensuretheyremaincurrent.FormoreinformationaboutupdatingtheFlexSystemManagerUpdateManagersee
UpdatingfirmwareandsoftwarefortheLenovoFlexSystemManager.
UpdateXpressSystemPacks
UpdateXpressSystemPacks(UXSP)containanintegrationtestedbundleofonline,updateablefirmwareanddevicedriversforyour
computenode.TheLenovoToolsCenterBootableMediaCreatorusesUpdateXpressSystemPackstoupdatethefirmwareanddevice
drivers.
Typically,useUpdateXpressSystemPackstoupdatefirmwareanddevicedriversforacomputenodethathasbeenprovisioned.For

LenovoToolsCenterBootableMediaCreator
YoucanuseLenovoToolsCenterBootableMediaCreatortocreatebootablemediaforapplyingfirmwareupdatesandrunningpreboot
diagnostics.UsingLenovoToolsCenterBootableMediaCreator,youcancreateasinglebootableimageonsupportedmedia(suchasCD,
DVD,ISOimage,USBflashdrive,orsetofPXEfiles)thatbundlesmultipleFlexsystemtoolsandupdatesfromUpdateXpressSystem
Packs,whichcontainWindowsandLinuxfirmwareupdates.
Typically,LenovoToolsCenterBootableMediaCreatorisusedfortheinitialsetupofacomputenode.Formoreinformationaboutthe
BootableMediaCreator,seetheBootableMediaCreator(BoMC)forLenovox86serverswebsite.
IntegratedmanagementmoduleII(IMM2)
YoucanusetheIMM2toupdatesometypesofcomputenodefirmware.FormoreinformationabouttheIMM2,seethe"Integrated
ManagementModuleIIUsersGuide"(youmightneedtoregistertoaccessthiscontent).
AnotherwaytoupdatefirmwareanddevicedriversisthroughtheCMMwebinterface.YoucanusetheCMMwebinterfacetolauncha
remoteIMMwebsessionandupdatetheIMMfirmwareforeachXArchitecturecomputenodeinyourFlexSystemchassis.Youmustupdate
theIMMfirmwareforeachXArchitecturecomputenodeindividually.
Note:RemotecomputenodeIMMsessionsfromtheCMMarenotsupportedbyallcomputenodestypes,includingallPowerSystems
computenodes.Seethedocumentationforyourcomputenodeforinformation.
IfnouseraccountshavebeenmanuallysetupfortheIMMofthecomputenodeyouaretryingtoaccess,theconnectiontothatIMMmust
becompletedusingtheCMMuserIDandpassword.ForanIMMtocommunicatewiththecomputenodeAdvancedSettingsUtility(ASU)and
UpdateXpressSystemPackInstaller(UXSPI)programs,alocaluseraccountmustbesetupforthecomputenodeIMM.Thislocalaccountis
notincludedinanIMMconfigurationbackup.ForinformationaboutusingthecomputenodeIMMinterface,seethecomputenodeorIMM
documentation.
Attention:Installingthewrongfirmwareordevicedriverupdatemightcausethecomputenodetomalfunction.Beforeyouinstalla
firmwareordevicedriverupdate,readanyreadmeandchangehistoryfilesprovidedwiththeupdate.Thesefilescontainimportant
informationabouttheupdateandtheprocedureforinstallingtheupdate,includinganyspecialproceduresforupdatingfromanearly
firmwareordevicedriverversiontothelatestversion.

Note:YoucanaccessthecomputenodeIMMCLIusingaCMMSOLsession(seeStartinganSOLsession).
UsethefollowinginstructionstoupdatetheIMMfirmwarethroughtheCMMwebinterface.
1. FromtheCMMwebinterface,clickChassisManagement>ComputeNodes.
2. Selectthecomputenodetobeupdated,thenclickActions>LaunchComputeNodeConsole.

3. FromtheLaunchComputeNodeConsoleselecttheInterfaceIPaddressandContext,thenclickLaunch.

4. WhentheIMMwebinterfaceopens,clickServerManagement>ServerFirmware.
5. OntheServerFirmwarepageclickUpdateFirmware.
6. ClickSelectFileandenterthefilepathorbrowsetothefile,thenclickOpen.

7. ClickNexttobeginuploadingthefile.
8. OntheUploadandVerifypage,makesurethefileselectedtouploadisthecorrectfile,thenclickNext.
9. MakesureAction1ischeckedandUpdatetheprimarybank(defaultaction)isselectedontheAdditionalOptionspage.To
updatethebackupfirmwarebank,checkAction2,selectUpdatethebackupbank,thenclickNextandtheprimarybankandbackup
