Adam Powell gives a thumbs-up as he was one of
just six competitors who were able to master the
mud bog pit going the full distance and winning
the Super Modified class at the Milk River
MotorSports event this past Sunday. Numbers were
up this year as 25 vehicles were registered for the
weekend. 165 fans attended Saturdays Sand Drags
and 295 fans attended on Sunday. The total payout
to the drivers was $4,190 with $1,200 coming from
the Valley County Fair Commission, $1,000 from
Milk River MotorSports, and 100% of the entry
fees paid back to each class registered. Milk River
MotorSports would like to thank all the sponsors,
Fair Commission, the Glasgow Rodeo Committee
and all the volunteers who help make this happen.

Reds at home on Wednesday

The Glasgow Reds American Legion baseball team
will be playing a double header with the Miles City
Mavericks on Bill Connors Field in Sullivan Park on
Wednesday, June 3rd. First game is at 5:30 p.m.
While the Glasgow Redss season is just getting
into full swing theyve played just five games
other teams already have 15+ games in. For instance,
the Lewistown Redbirds have already compiled a 15-4
record with five games not played due to rain!
However, for the Reds, that means virtually nonstop baseball this summer. Its a super-busy schedule
from here on out with numerous tournaments on the
schedule.
Playing in Billings this past weekend, the Reds
split with the Cardinals on Saturdaday (losing 4-3 and
winning 17-0) and also split with the the Blue Jays on
Sunday (4-3 loss, 11-3 win) and now have an overall
record of 3-2.

Charles Charlie A. Chapman, 65, of Glasgow,

passed away May 31, 2015 at Valley View Nursing Home
in Glasgow.

Funeral services for Charlie will be held Thursday,
June 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Bell Mortuary, with Pastor Scott
Hedegard officiating. Burial will follow at Highland
Cemetery in Glasgow. Visitation will be Wednesday,
June 3, from 4-6 p.m. at Bell Mortuary. Tributes of
sympathy may be left at bellmortuarymontana.com.

Charlie was born on July 4, 1949 to Glyn and Loa
(Huxatable-Cruz) Chapman at Park City, Utah. He
attended Boulder River School/Hospital and graduated
from there in 1962. He later moved to Malta, MT. In
1979, he moved in with the McAuley family for adult
family foster care. In 1984, he moved to Glasgow to
the Warren Group home and worked at the Milk River
Activity Center and the Group Home Garden.
Charlie enjoyed his motorcycle rides, horseback
rides, convertible rides, camping and riding his tricycle.
He collected radio; and had a huge collection, country
music, tv, airplanes and parades. His favorite was the
fireworks on his birthday.
Charlie is survived by his sisters; Lisa Chapman,
Tina McCombs and Beverly Murnen, and numerous
very close friends and care-givers at Milk River.

Preceding him in death are his parents.

approaches, the anglers could be seeing a rise on the
river level as creeks and streams are a concern today
due to rainfall last night and today. As of 6:00 this
morning we had received about 3/4 of an inch and
more was coming. Fortunately we missed out on the
hail and 70 mph winds that raised havoc in other
parts of the state.

was Chase Guttenberg who defended his title from a

Kicking the can down the road

Hello again. It is great to get back to the farm and
enjoy the spring in Montana. Now that the dust has settled
and the veto pen used, it is time to get back to normal living.

It is a shame that so many vetoes were used to kill
good bills for eastern Montana. The Yellowstone bison bill
on the translocation of these wooly tanks into a county
only with the permission of the county commissioners was
a loss of local control and gives the state more dictatorial
control over our lives! This bill had nothing to do with
the Indians or the reservations. Who knows better than
county commissioners on local matters?

The infrastructure bills that went down to defeat were
tragic. Speaker Knudsens HB 402 was a great bill for
natural resource impacts in eastern Montana. And there
was plenty money for this very important bill. When it
became evident his bill could not pass I started my SB416
that was a compromise bill. Did I like everything in my
bill? NO, but to get enough votes one has to compromise.
It passed 47-3 in the Senate and then went to the House
where it got changed to a great degree. SB416 was half
cash and half bonding and after many votes it finally was
put to bed by ONE vote!
Now we have just kicked the can down the road
and nothing will be done for infrastructure and natural
resource impacts for another two years. And, in the
meantime inflation will take its toll and costs increase. It
is too bad that some say my way or the highway and with
150 Legislators and a Governor it is much more difficult to
get things done when compared to a private business!

I voted against HB2 (General funding of Montana
government) as I thought it was too much of an increase
in state spending. I also voted against Medicaid expansion.
There are 128 thousand on Medicaid now and with
expansion we will go from 13 percent of our population
on Medicaid to over 20 percent of Montanas population.
If the Federal Government does not keep sending dollars
to Montana for Medicaid, Montana could well find itself
in the hole to the tune of up to 500 million dollars!

I have until January 1, 2017 to serve in my Senate seat
and then I am termed out. It has been a great run and I
want to thank all for their support. In the meantime I will
be on the Environmental Quality Council (EQC) during
the interim. If I may be of any assistance please give me a
call. I also would urge folks to call the Governor to call a
special session for another infrastructure bill. Where there
is a will there is a way.

It has been great to work with Speaker Knudsen and
Rep. Lang. I will be supporting Speaker Knudsen again
for the House and Rep. Lang for my Senate seat. Thank
