STRUCTURE
CONVENTIONAL TRANSFORMER
Faradays First Transformer:
A soft iron ring 7/8 if an inch thick and 6 inches in external diameter. Three coils of each
wire was wounded around one half of the rings circumference. Each coil had 24 feet of wire
with the turns separated by wine and calico. 60 feet of wire in two separate coils was wounded in
the same direction at the other side. The two coils were connected in series and carried the
connecting wire over magnetic needle. Other part of the coils were then connected to a battery
and closed the circuit. The magnetic side on the second side will immediately sense it, oscillated
and then returned to its original position.
Henrys coil:
Not so much different with Faradays First transformer. The coils are made of copper
strips which have been wrapped in silk insulation.
The Zipernowski and Deri Transformer
This is the one of the best design of the early ring-shaped transformer that invented by the
Messrs Karoly Zipernowski and Miksa Deri in 1885. The positions of the coils and the iron were
reversed, both primary and secondary coils were insulated, and were wounded into a kind of slid
core and over-wound with a heavy layer of iron wire.

MODERN INTERCONNECTING AND AUTOTRANSFORMER

2. HV neutral bushing
3. LV bushing
4. Oil conservator
5. On-load-tap-changer
6. Motor drive for OLTC
7. Pressure relief device
8. Jacking supports
9. Oil draining and filtering valve

This type of transformer offers a galvanic insulation between primary and
secondary networks and high adaptability to expected levels of performance and
site conditions. Meanwhile, the autotransformer gives a lighter and more
economically optimized solution which is possible whenever the voltage ratio is
between 1 and 2.

COST
CONVENTIONAL TRANSFORMER
At that time, (1800-1900) the question of the costs become a problem as the shape of the
iron punching made them wasteful and expensive. This is because of the iron on the periphery
was difficult to wind and any repairs requires tearing the whole thing to pieces.

MODERN TRANSFORMER
As the world become more advanced, the design and use of transformers also become
more innovative. The cost of the modern transformer depends on the specs that the customers
choose. More specifics can lead to the higher price. However, the inverter of company nowadays
tend to build a new and cheaper version of the transformer.
