Ultrasonic Transit Time Method
The FH8500 theory of operation is based on the Ultrasonic Transit Time Method. Basically, this method gives access to
the difference in propagation time between ultrasonic pulses transmitted along and against the flow from A to B and B
to A, TAB and TBA respectively. The average flow velocity VAB along AB is proportional to (TBA - TAB ).

The Flow Velocity Profile Effects

The average speed measured along the ultrasonic
propagation line depends on the flow velocity profile. The
ultrasonic technology provides a local information on the flow
velocity profile. An accurate measurement of the flowrate can
be achieved by rebuilding the whole flow velocity profile
across the pipe. The FAURE HERMAN 18-path configuration
has been developed to meet this requirement.

The ingenious 18-path configuration

The FH8500 multi-path ultrasonic flowmeter is the
only flowmeter that integrates 12 transducers
generating 18 ultrasonic beams, providing a 3D view
of the flow velocity profile. Consequently, the
FH8500 manages all types of flow velocity profiles :
Laminar flows
Turbulent flows
l Asymmetric flows
l Swirls
l

Integrated electronics
Thanks to an integrated powerful processing unit,
using the leading-edge digital technology, the FH8500
provides an integrated and compact metering solution
to end-users. A high speed processor measures
transit time with a very high resolution on the 18
ultrasonic paths.

Infrared remote control

The intrinsically safe infrared remote control
constitutes an additional originality, enabling an userfriendly intervention on-site, such as the adjustment
of display parameters and the restricted access to
various configuration levels and alarms management.
