CONCEPT

The Scomi Oiltools CRI System can be

designed to receive an anticipated
volume of waste from drilling
operations and associated production
facilities.

DRILLED
CUTTINGS
INJECTION
(DCI) SYSTEMS

A typical Scomi Oiltools CRI System

consists of the following components:

Venturi System
Slurrification System
Batch Holding Tank
Injection Pump Package

Wastes are transported to the Grinding

Tank or Slurrification System which
have been pre-filled with water via
the Venturi System. The resultant slurry
is passed over a shaker so that it can
be classified to client specifications.
Any over sized particles pass through a
grinding mill and are re-circulated.
The resultant slurry is then transferred
to the second mixing tank via the
shaker underflow. Here the viscosity
and specific gravity is tested to ensure
the slurry meets the injection disposal
criteria. If required, chemical additions
can be made via an optional additive
hopper. The resultant slurry can then
be injected via the injection pump.
During injection operations the first
slurrification tank is refilled with water
and used after injection operations
have been completed to displace the
slurry from the injection string thus
minimising the occurrence of string
blockage.

A control system is incorporated that

allows the system to start automatically.
Remote emergency shutdown switches
are also supplied. The automatic
feature ensures the water is added to
the system before the pumps, grinding
mill and shaker are energised. A remote
alarm is also included that pre-warns
the operators of impending system
automatic start-up.
High and Low level sensors are fitted
to both tanks in order to eliminate
potential spillage and pump cavitation/
loss of suction.
VENTURI SYSTEM
The Venturi System consists of a
specially designed hopper and
centrifugal pump. The system allows
cuttings to be efficiently contained and
transferred around a worksite. Cuttings
fall into a Venturi at the base of the
hopper where high-pressure fluid from
the centrifugal pump carries them into
the Slurrification System. The system
is especially efficient during Injection
operations where grinding and water
dilution is not an issue.
The system is smaller and lighter than
screw conveyor or vacuum systems
and requires less power. In addition,
the Slurrification process commences
directly after the Venturi System, which
in turn reduces the time required to
produce the slurry.

SLURRIFICATION SYSTEM

INJECTION PUMP PACKAGE

The Slurrification system accepts waste

from the Venturi System. It incorporates
classification, grinding and pumping
functions in the form of two holding
tanks, a shaker, grinding mill and
centrifugal pump.

The optional Injection Pump Package

consists of one electric drive triplex
unit. The pump takes suction from the
holding tank. A pulsation dampener is
incorporated into the package together
with adjustable pop-off valves with a
discharge valve between the pump and
wellhead. A 24-hour pressure recorder
and control panel is also included.

The base of each Slurrification System

tank is conical to minimise settling.
The Slurrification System is normally
supplied with four centrifugal pumps,
two for each tank. All of the pumps
are connected in such a way as to be
able to grind, transfer to be used for
the Venturi System. This provides full
system redundancy / back-up.
All the centrifugal pumps are fitted
with mechanical seals rather than
conventional packing glands in order
to minimise downtime and fluid
leakage. They are also fitted with a
modified impeller, which has been
reduced in size to ensure optimum flow
characteristics inside the pump housing
for degradation of solids. The impeller
blades are hard faced with tungsten
carbide to provide extended life. The
casing is also fitted with replaceable
wear plates.
The Slurrification System is equipped
with an agitator system that provides
an additional agitation motion over that
obtained from centrifugal pumps alone.
Perforated baffles are installed inside
the slurry tanks to provide additional
turbulence, which assists in the overall
degradation of the solids.
All of the piping has been designed to
enable each pump to take suction and
discharge into either slurrification tank,
as well as being able to back-flush the
suction line in the event of plugging.
Redundancy has been designed
into the system which will allow for
full operation in the event that one
grinding pump or one of the agitators
require maintenance.

The system is designed to provide

reliable and simple operation.
Therefore, after an initial training
period, it can be maintained / operated
by the existing drilling personnel.
Utilising an electrical drive system
allows the Injection Pump Package to
be smaller and lighter in weight. An
electrical drive is also much quieter
than a diesel driven system.
APPLICATION
The Scomi Oiltools CRI System can be
utilised to dispose of any drilling waste
that can be slurrified and meet the
geological injection criteria.

SPECIFICATION

Drilled Cuttings Injection is a field proven solution

for the disposal of drilling waste both on and
offshore. The Scomi Oiltools DCI System offers
some key benefits over existing designs such as a
Venturi Collection System that eliminates the need
for Screw Conveyors or Vacuum Systems.
