Course Objectives:

and applications

To develop skill in students by using new measuring techniques through the subject

Mechanical Linear and Angle Measuring Instrument : Vernier calipers,
Micrometers, Sine bar, Autocollimator, Comparators, Types of comparators,
Mechanical comparators, Optical comparators, Pneumatic comparators, Electrical and
electronic comparators
Geometrical Metrology : Terms used in surface roughness measurement, Factors
effecting surface finish in machining, Methods Surface roughness measurement,
Surface texture parameters
Unit III
Thread and Gear Metrology : Elements of screw thread metrology, Types of
threads, Measurement of screw Thread, Measurement of thread angle, Elements of
gear metrology, Gear Profile, Measurement of pitch, Gear rolling test
