Corrosive environments can significantly degrade plastic manufacturing

processes and equipment. With over 25 years of engineering and industry
expertise, Canterbury Engineering provides two solutions to improve
performance when operating within high temperature, severely corrosive
environments.
Solution #1
555 with Inconel Protection For use in standard corrosive environments.
The 555 with Inconel Protection is our most cost-effective
solution for improving performance within standard corrosive
environments. Iron is a major contributor to corrosion from
chlorine and fluoride based acids. The 555 with Inconel
protection solves this problem with an extremely low iron
content of less than 1%, thus, minimizing the corrosive
effects of these acids.
Solution #2
BO22 Iron Free Barrel For use in highly corrosive environments.
The BO22 is our superior solution for highly corrosive environments. With Zero Iron Content,
the BO22 offers 3 to 4 times longer service life creating a strong ROI for the investment. It is
the only Iron-Free liner available on the market today.

solutions to corrosive Fluoropolymers, food grade processing equipment, and

severely corrosive plasticizing environments. With low iron and iron free
content, both screw and barrel assemblies provide strong benefits.

Superior Performance in corrosive or abrasive environments.

Resistant to Corrosion from attack by corrosive acids found in Fluoropolymers processing.
FDA Recognized and Approved as suitable bore materials for processing plastics in food, medical and
pharmaceutical applications.
Compatibility - Compatible with many screw flight hard facing materials and metal constructions. The
majority of the time it is mated with corrosion resistant base metals - XC4000 coated or C56 hard face
Inconel or other high nickel alloy.
Added Inconel Protection - Inconel cladding can be included to critical cylinder surfaces that are not
protected by corrosion resistant inlay. In most applications, Inconel protection is typically required on the
discharge end of the barrel; however, we add Inconel cladding on other unprotected surfaces if
requested.
Complete Barrel Assemblies & Liners - BO22 & 555 are available in complete barrel assemblies and
liners.

555 with Inconel Protection for Standard Corrosive Resistance

The 555 with Inconel Protection is designed for standard corrosion-resistant environments working with
mildly corrosive resins. It is our most cost effective solution to improve performance within corrosive
environments.
Less Than 1% Iron - This spun-cast inlay typically has less than 1% iron in the base chemistry and is
similar to other bore inlays offered in the marketplace as corrosion-resistant.
Provides Moderate Corrosion Resistance for Processing Fluoropolymers This inlay provides
moderate corrosion resistance for processing highly corrosive Fluoropolymers because of its tendency
to absorb even the very small amount of iron from the backing material. It is also somewhat lower
corrosion resistance compared to the corrosion-resistance level of BO22 inlay (optimal solution).

BO22 for Severe Corrosive Resistant

The BO22 Barrel Liner is our best corrosion-resistant barrel inlay offering superior performance in severe
applications. It is designed to operate in severe, highly corrosive environments and protects against attack
from acids produced in the processing of Fluoropolymers. B022 results in 3 to 4 Times Longer Service
Life compared against other corrosion resistant barrels.
Major features and benefits of B022 are:
No Iron Content - Iron is a major contributor to corrosion from chlorine and fluoride based acids. BO22
bimetallic liners are made using a low temperature Hot Isostatic Pressing, Hipping (HIP), process that
allows for an iron free liner with no porosity. The HIP process prevents changes to the inlay chemistry by
not absorbing any corrosion inducing chemicals typically present in the backing material. Other inlays on
the market offered for processing Fluoropolymers may contain iron or are spun-cast into the cylinder
and thus may absorb iron found in the backing material. Absorbed iron will make these cylinders less
corrosion-resistant over a relatively short time period.
High Temperature Hardness B022 is a nickel-rich, boron-base alloy with high contents of
molybdenum, chrome, and is nickel enriched with complex borides and carbides. This chemistry allows
B022 to maintain high temperature hardness above Rockwell C 50 at 700 degrees Fahrenheit.
Superior Corrosion Resistance High Molybdenum contents and other alloying elements mentioned
above are superior in corrosion resistance against halogen containing elements. This reduces the acid
attack on the liner as compared with conventional nickel-cobalt liners made by competing
manufacturers.
