What is ERP and SAP ECC??

This question is Not Answered.
Hi All,
I am new to the terms ERP and ECC. Could you please let me know what is ERP and ECC in detail?
What does the Enhancement pacakge means in terms of different ECC versions?

Hi Swapnika,
ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning
ECC - E--> ERP C-->Central C--> Component
Enhancement Packages - The enhancement package for the SAP ERP application provides new or
improved software functionality that you can implement in a modular fashion.
Simply its collection of corrections (can say like collection of support packages, support packages
are collection of sap notes, new business functions etc.... )
SAP ERP is the product owned by SAP, which has ECC 5.0, ECC 6.0 components in it. Each product
has EHP's as well. Latest product and EHP's is ERP 6.0, EHP6.

the last entry gives a great summary of ECC vs ERP
A few years ago, SAP stopped shipping functionality changes through support packages.
Now support Packages contain purely code fixes and no changes to business functionality.

Changes (enhancements) to business functions are now delivered via Enhancement Packages:

Hi All,
SAP R/3 was officially launched on 6 July 1992. It was renamed SAP ERP and later again renamed
SAP ECC (ERP Central Component). SAP came to dominate the large business applications market
over the next 10 years. SAP ECC 5.0 ERP is the successor of SAP R/3 4.70. The newest version of
the suite is SAP ECC 7.0.

History of SAP R/3

ERP is name of a service- which many other company providers, But ECC is the ERP tool for SAP AG.
