Short Description
Perform this procedure to log in to the device through HyperTerminal.
Prerequisites

Context
To log in to the device through HyperTerminal, perform the following steps:
Steps
1. In the Windows operating system , click Start > All Programs > Accessories >
Communications > HyperTerminal to open the Connection Description window,
as shown in Figure 1-1. Specify the name and click OK to continue.

2. In the Connect To window, specify the serial port that is used to setup the connection
(for example, COM1), as shown in Figure 1-2. Click OK to continue.

3. In the COM1 Properties window, specify the parameters, as shown in Figure 1-3.
Click Restore Defaults to select the default settings. Click OK to complete the
configuration.

4. If the system is running normally, the following messages displays. Enter the login
name and password (both as admin) to connect to the system.

Short Description
Perform this procedure to log in to the device by using Telnet.

Steps
1. In the Windows operating system, click Start > Run to open the Run window. Input
telnet x.x.x.x ( x.x.x.x is NE IP address), as shown in Figure 1-4. Click OK to start the
Telnet client.
2. If the connection is normal, input the login name and password (both are admin) to
log in to the device to configure data, as shown in Figure 1-5.

It is successful to log in to the device by using Telnet.
1.1.3 NetNumen
Short Description
Perform this procedure to manage the device through NetNumen NMS.

Context
To manage the device through NetNumen NMS, perform the following steps:
Steps
1. Run the database.
Note:
Database generally runs automatically.
2. In the PC where the NMS server is installed, configure the database in the NMS
configuration Center window.
Click Start > All Programs > NetNumen Unified Management System >
NetNumen Config Center. The NetNumen Config Center window appears. In the
Configuration Center tree view on the left pane, click Database Configuration >
Database Connection Configuration to display the UEPs DB Config tab. Specify
the database type, database IP/hostname, and other parameters, as shown in Figure
1-6. After the configuration, click Save.

After configuring the database, click Test DB Connection to test the connection status
between the NMS server and database.

3. In the PC where the NMS server is installed, add the device type in NMS configuration
Center window.
In the Configuration Center tree view on the left pane, click Products Configuration
> MOC Type Configuration to display all the Moc types. Click and ensure MSG5208
option is selected, as shown in Figure 1-7. Click Save to continue.

4. In the PC where the NMS server is installed, start the NMS server.
Click Start > All Programs > NetNumen Unified Management System > NetNumen
Console to start the NMS server, as shown in Figure 1-8.

5. In the PC where the NMS client is installed, start the NMS client.
Click Start > All Programs > NetNumen Unified Management System > NetNumen
Client to start the NMS client, as shown in Figure 1-9.

6. Create NE.
Right-click the working space of the NMS client window, and click Create Object >
Create Wireline NE to open the Management-Create window. In the NE Type area,
click MSG5208 and specify the Name, IP address, and other parameters in the Basic
tab on the right, as shown in Figure 1-10.

After the configuration, click Create to create the ZXMSG 5208 NE. The created NE
is displayed in the NMS client window.
7. Manage NE.
Click the ZXMSG 5208 NE to perform the further management.

Operation features
General operations
1.2.1 Overview
ZXMSG 5208 supports two maintenance modes: Network management and CLI.

Network management: The NMS provides GUI for the operation and maintenance.
CLI: CLI system provides command line input interface for the maintenance. Users
can log in to the device through HyperTerminal or Telnet.
Overview
Figure 1-11 shows methods for entering different command modes.

Note:
Execute the exit command to exit from the current command mode.
Execute the quit command to exit from Telnet client from any mode.
Execute the disable command to go back to the operator mode from administrator
mode.
By default, the command line prompt uses 5208 as the system host name (Execute
the system hostname command to modify it).
The contents in brackets shows the current command mode.
To avoid illegal access, the system provides various command modes for users at different
levels. Users who are at different levels execute different commands even if they enter into
the same command mode, avoiding illegal access.
Intelligent Match
For convenience, ZXMSG 5208 supports intelligent match. When inputting a command,
the user can only input the key character and press Tab to get the whole command. For
instance, to get the enable command, the user can input en or ena and press Tab.
Note:
If there is no response when the user press Tab, the reason may be:
1. Wrong key character
For instance, input acv and press Tab for the activate-version. There is no response.
2. Key character collision
For instance, input re and press Tab. There is no response. There are two
commands starting with re: reboot command and reset command. The system cannot
give intelligent match. It gives a prompt for selection.
Edit Function
The system support edit in multiple lines. For each command, the maximum length is 255
characters.

For instance, input ? in operator mode to get all command lines in operator mode.

1.3.1 Overview
Features
The ZXMSG 5208 device has the following features:

NMS can manage and maintain ZXMSG 5208 device. ZXMSG 5208 sends status
information to NMS through Trap message. The status information includes configuration
changes or alarms.

The in-band NMS configuration networking diagram is shown in Figure 1-12.

NMS manages and maintains ZXMSG 5208 device through the uplink interface in
in-band NMS mode. On the ZXMSG 5208 device, add a default router for the NetNumen
management and configure the relevant SNMP parameters.

Context
To configure the in-band NMS, perform the following steps:

1. Log in to the ZXMSG 5208 device.
Input the user name and password ( the default user name and password are both
admin ) to log in to the device. Execute the enable command to enter the user mode.
Execute the configure command to enter the global configuration mode.

5. In global configuration mode, execute the ip subnet command to configure the in-band
IP address.

Note:
The IP address of in-band and out-of-band NMS must be in a different network
segment.
Note:
In the real networking, there can be the third-party system that receives the Trap
reported from NE. Therefore, it is necessary to decide whether to configure SNMP
server as ZTE-NMS.

If NE and NMS server is not in the same network segment in networking, execute ip
route command to configure default route.

Result
NetNumen NMS can manage the ZXMSG 5208 device normally.
Prerequisite
Log in to the device through HyperTerminal, Telnet or SNMP NMS mode.
Context
Configuring NMS ACM aims to restrict external devices to visit the ZXMSG 5208 device.
In the real networking application, usually the device is configured with an in-band NMS IP
address and connected to public network or operation and maintenance network through
uplink interface. All users in the network can visit the device. However, for the sake of safe
operation of the device, only a few users are allowed to configure the device. Therefore,
the function is realized on the device to control users' access to device NMS module. It is
named as NMS ACM (Access Control List for Management).
ACM enable-switch can be configured on the device. If ACM function is configured as
enable, the unmatched IP packets in the ACM list are discarded. For the source IP
addresses that are not in ACM list, the device does not respond to the ARP request
packets and ICMP packets, which prevents the illegal device from obtaining the MAC
address and IPaddress of the local device and launching attacks.
Steps
1. Configure ACM entry.
2. Enable ACM function.

Note:
During ACM configuration, make sure to configure the IP address of the NMS
computer before enabling ACM function. Otherwise, once function is enabled, it
is impossible to use Telnet or SNMP NMS terminal to manage the device.
ACM can be configured with 16 entries maximum.

NMS ACM is configured successfully.
Example
The following examples display how to configure ACM:

Telnet or SNMP.

2.2.1 Overview
Service Description
VoIP service is for compressing and packaging the traditional simulated voice signal
and transmitting through IP divided exchange network, which reduces the costs of voice
service.

Steps
To configure VoIP service access, perform the following steps:
1. Configure the VoIP VLAN.
a. Double-click the NE (ZXMSG 5208) in the NetNumen Unified Management
System (EMS Client) window to display the Rack window.

b. In the Rack window, right-click the OMCU card, and click VLAN Configuration
to open the VLAN Configuration window. Click the Create button to open the
Create Static VLAN window. Specify the VoIP VLAN, as shown in Figure 2-5.

After the configuration, click OK, and the newly-created VLAN is displayed in the
VLAN Configuration window, as shown in Figure 2-6.

b. Select Port 1 and click the Modify button to open the Port VLAN Configuration
window, where you can specify the uplink port and VLAN, and specify to bind the
VLAN with the uplink port, as shown in Figure 2-8.

After the configuration, click Set to apply the settings. The following messages
display in the Results area, indicating the configuration is successful.

After the configuration, click Close. and the configuration results are displayed in
the Port VLAN Configuration window. It indicates the uplink port is added to the
VLAN, as shown in Figure 2-9.

b. After the configuration, click OK, and the newly-added VoIP settings are displayed
in the Static Subnet window, as shown in Figure 2-11

5. Configure MG.
In the Rack window, right-click the POTS card (for example, the OPPVB card ), and
click MG Config to open the MG Config window, as shown in Figure 2-14.

You can click Modify to open the Modify MG window, where you can modify the MG
settings, as shown in Figure 2-15.

6. Configure MGC.
a. In the Rack window, right-click the POTS card (for example, the OPPVB card ),
and click MGC Config to open the MGC Config window. Click Create to open
the Create MGC window, where you can specify the MGC settings, as shown in
Figure 2-16.

Configuring IP fax service access instance
2.3.1 Overview
Introduction
IP fax is similar to Internet telephony, but it is optimized for transmitting fax data. IP fax
generally works by sending fax data over the Internet to strategically placed fax servers.
Once a fax arrives at the server closest to the final destination, it is transferred onto normal
telephone lines and transmitted like a normal fax. Because the data is transmitted over
the Internet for most of the journey, the total cost of transmission is much less than if it
traveled over long-distance telephone lines like conventional faxes.

Steps
To configure IP fax service, perform the following steps:
1. Configure the VoIP VLAN.
a. Double-click the NE (ZXMSG 5208) in the NetNumen Unified Management
System (EMS Client) window to display the Rack window.
b. In the Rack window, right-click the OMCU card, and click VLAN Configuration
to open the VLAN Configuration window. Click the Create button to open the
Create Static VLAN window. Specify the VoIP VLAN as shown in Figure 2-24.

After the configuration, click OK. The newly-created VLAN is displayed in the
VLAN Configuration window, as shown in Figure 2-25.

b. Select Port 1 and click the Modify button to open the Port VLAN Configuration
window, where you can specify the uplink port and VLAN, and specify to bind the
VLAN with the uplink port, as shown in Figure 2-27.

After the configuration, click Set to apply the settings. The following messages
display in the Results area, indicating the configuration is successful.

a. In the Rack window, right-click the OMCU card, and click System Management >
Static Subnet to open the Static Subnet window. Click Create to open the Add
Subnet window. Configure the VoIP voice IP settings, as shown in Figure 2-29.

3.1.1 Overview
Service Description
VLAN is a technology to achieve virtual work group by dividing the network into individual
segments logically instead of physically through local network device. The IEEE published
the IEEE 802.1q protocol standard draft to standardize VLAN implementation in 1999.
Service Specification
ZXMSG 5208 supports maximum 4094 VLANs.
VLAN usage is listed in Table 3-1.

Remarks
Basic VLAN
For Ethernet port and PON port, it is used in NMS and cascade.
Non-PVLAN mode: One VLAN contains only one xDSL service port. The service flows between VLANs are separated.
As there is a one-to-one mapping relation between VLAN and
access user, access user can be differentiated according to
VLAN.

Connect computers to ZXMSG 5208 through MODEM. PC1 and PC2 are in different

User1, User2, User3 and User4 are provided with broadband service by different ISPs.
ZXMSG 5208 adds two VLAN Tag layers (outer VLAN Tag is used to identify ISP, inner
layer VLAN Tag is used to identify user) to packets and forwards them to layer-2 network.
Layer-2 exchange forwards packets to the specified ISP BAS device according to outer
layer VLAN Tag. ISP BAS device removes outer layer VLAN Tag and identify users through
inner VLAN Tag. After passing ISP BAS authentication, the user can obtain all kinds of
services that ISP provides.

Service Description
ADSL/ADSL2+ adopts the asymmetrical way to transmit data. ADSL technology supports
maximum downlink rate upto 24 Mbits/s and maximum uplink rate upto 1 Mbit/s and its
transmission distance reaches up to 6.5 km. While ADSL2+ technology supports the
maximum downlink rate upto 8 Mbits/s and maximum uplink rate upto 1 Mbits/s and its
transmission distance reaches up to 35 km.
Service Specifications
ZXMSG 5208 supports ADSL/ADSL2+ service access through OASVC card. Each
device can be installed with two ADSL/ADSL2+ user cards. Each user card provides
64 ADSL/ADSL2+ ports. Therefore, each device can provide up to 128 ADSL/ADSL2+
service access ports.

L.PRF. The default alarm profile cannot be deleted or modified. In the default alarm

Steps
To configure VDSL2 IPoE/PPPoE service access, perform the following steps:
1. Create service VLAN. Add uplink port and service port to this VLAN.
a. Double-click the NE (ZXMSG 5208) in the NetNumen Unified Management
System (EMS Client) window to display the Rack window.
b. Right-click the OMCU card in the Rack window. Click VLAN Configuration from
the shortcut menu. The VLAN Configuration window appears.

Click Create to display the Create Static VLAN window. Specify the Start VLAN

DEF.PRF is the system default profile. Its parameter cannot be deleted or modified.
When port is activated, the specified parameters in the basic profile are configured
between the office-end device and remote device to negotiate and confirm whether
they can work normally.
Steps
This example displays how to add a VDSL2 basic profile named TESTBASE.PRF. RFI
frequency band notch parameter is set to be 1 2 or 4094 4095. Subcarrier mask
parameter is set to be 30 40. Use the default values for other parameters.
1. Right-click VDSL2 card in the Rack window. Click VDSL Management > VDSL2 Line
Profile to display the VDSL2 Line Profile Management window. Click the Base tab.
On this tab, you can configure the transmission mode, standard profiles, PSD profile,
Custom PSD, RFI band notch, subcarrier mask, power and virtual noise, as shown in
Figure 3-88.

By default, one Ethernet port can bind 1024 multicast groups. Other types of ports
can bind only 1 multicast group. Therefore, when an ADSL port needs to bind more

If it is not configured, the default address is 0.0.0.0. In this case, some multicast
route device may discard the IGMP packets with source IP address 0.0.0.0.

Context
ZXMSG 5208 adds tag to PPPoE+ packet directly and send the access user's port
information to BRAS device. When users visit the Internet in PPPoE way, the system
adopts PPPoE Intermediate Agent way to locate port. It carries the user port information
in PPPoE discovery packet to report to BRAS. Then BRAS uses this port information to
authenticate the user and bind user account with circuit.
To configure PPPoE+, perform the following steps:

1. Double-click the NE (ZXMSG 5208) in the NetNumen Unified Management System
(EMS Client) window to display the Rack window.
2. In the Rack window, right-click the DSL card (for example, the OASVC card). Click
Layer 2 Management > Port Locating. The Port Locating window appears, as
shown in Figure 4-1.

Option82 field contains CID (Circuit ID), RID (Remote ID) and sub-Option90 (optional)
field. It also provides the information of users shelf number, slot number, port number,
VPI and VCI.
Only when DHCP Option82 function is enabled, ZXMSG 5208 can add/delete
Option82 field in DHCP packets.
After DHCP Option82 function is disabled, ZXMSG 5208 directly forwards DHCP
packets.
Steps
1. Double-click the NE (ZXMSG 5208) in the NetNumen Unified Management System
(EMS Client) window to display the Rack window.
2. Right-click the DSL card (for example, the OASVC card) in the Rack window. Click
Layer 2 ManagementPort Locating to display the Port Locating window, as shown
in Figure 4-3.

Select Enable from the DHCP Option82 Enable drop-down list. Specify the
sub_option type, enable the remote ID, and specify the remote ID name.. Click
OK to complete port DHCP Option82 configuration.

SVLAN encapsulates one more tag before 802.1Q tag. One tag is used to identify the
customer network; the other tag is used to identify the service provider network. SVLAN
allows carrier to allocate the second VLAN ID up to 4 K, to each user. Carrier VLAN ID is
inserted in upstream and deleted in downstream.
The following example displays how to configure ADSL2+ port 4/1 to enable SVLAN. Set
inner layer VLAN as 11, outer layer VLAN as 60, PVC as 1, VPI/VCI as 8/81.
To configure SVLAN, perform the following steps:

SVLAN is configured successfully.
Context
DHCP snooping technology is a security characteristic of DHCP. This technology filters
the non-trusted DHCP information from non-trusted areas through establishing and
maintaining DHCP snooping binding table. DHCP snooping binding table includes the

information about user MAC address, IP address, rental period and VLAN ID interface
from non-trusted areas. It can age the entries in DHCP snooping binding table according
to the rental period. To maintain DHCP snooping binding table, it is necessary to intercept
DHCP Request, DHCP ACK, DHCP NAK, DHCP Decline and DHCP Release.
To realize the DHCP Source Guard technology, it is necessary to establish DHCP
snooping module to maintain DHCP snooping binding table. Through binding IP address
and PVC, DHCP snooping can filter the non-DHCP IP packets of PVC. This technology
can effectively prevent address-deceit and DoS attack and thus increase the device
security.
The following example displays how to enable DHCP snooping intercept on ADSL port 1/1
and bind the auto-obtained IP address with PVC1 to prevent the illegal IP address from
visiting and avoid DoS attack.
To configure DHCP, perform the following steps:

Configuration. The IP/MAC Config window appears, as shown in Figure 4-13.

4. On the IP Bind tab, click Add to display the Create IP Binding window. Select IPv4
and specify the IP address, as shown in Figure 4-14. After the configuration, click OK.

the Maximum Learnt MAC Number window. Select Enable Max MAC Learn and
