Maximizing the Benefits of Teaching

English Through Projects
MOTTO: Tell me and I forget
Teach me and I remember
Involve me and I learn.
( Benjamin Franklin )
Who claims that theres nothing to learn in this life is thoroughly wrong. As
teachers, we are the best example to this project. The knowledge fever takes us
in the unknown, fact that brings us more questions which are desperately in
need for answers. The modern technology eases our work but we must admit
that nowadays technology is indispensable.
The projects offer authentic situations for the contextualisation of the learning
activities and reasoning capacities of the upper level, regarding the main ideas.
For this reason the Intel-Teach classes will explore the possibility of using the
projects through technology, it will be determined the adequate way of a unit
planning.
The Intel-Teach class, Training in knowledge society, was created for helping
teachers to develop their creativity borders in the teaching-learning-evaluation
process. This class helped us to use the power of the information technology for
coercing the students imagination and learning achievements in daily life.
Through the class we could develop and answer the questions regarding
efficient ways to use computers for the improvement of the teaching-learning
process.

The most important question could be:

Whats the most efficient way to use technology for supporting and evaluate the
students performances?
As we can see, the most important aims of this training course are:
* Using technology to develop students' skills in this century
* Identify ways in which students and teachers can use technology to foster
learning through research, communication and collaboration
* Encourage the use of differentiated instruction strategy
* Develop critical thinking to solve problems
* Promote teamwork to optimize training
Throughout the class we had the opportunity to find answers for these
questions and aims according to the ways that apply to our students. We are
aware of the fact that the most important lessons of our life could be taught
without the help of a computer. In conclusion, the class was based on a
curricular planning developed theoretically and continuum evaluation practice
throughout the process of planning a unit.
As we went through the modules of this class Ive worked with the other
teachers and weve discused the aspects regarding the use of technology in
instruction. Ive used the project method between learning units of the class Ive
taught. Our purpose is to upgrade our students performance and abilities for
the 21st century.
Requested guidelines for the 21st century developed durring the Intel Teach
course:
- Responsibility and adaptability: exercising personal responsibility and
flexibility in contexts related to self, work and community setting and
achieving high standards and goals for themselves and for others, tolerance
of ambiguity.
- Communication Skills - Understand and achieve effective verbal
communication, written and multimedia in a variety of forms and contexts.

- Creativity and Intellectual Curiosity-Developing, implementing and

communicating new ideas to others, openness and receptivity to new ideas,
different perspectives.
- Critical thinking and systemic thinking-thinking Practice in the
understanding and realization of complex choices, understanding the
connections between systems.
- Information and media-analysis skills, accessing, managing, integrating,
evaluating, and creating information in various forms and environments.
- Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills - Demonstrate teamwork skills and
leadership, adapting to different roles and responsibilities, working
productively with others, empathetic behaviour, respect for other points of
view.
- The identification, formulation and problem-solving - ability to detect,
formulate, analyze and solve problems.
- Self-monitoring - training and understanding their learning needs, locating
appropriate resources, transferring knowledge from one area to another.
- Social Responsibility-acting in a responsible manner, taking into account
the interests of the community, demonstrating ethical behaviour in contexts
related to self, work and community.
We hope that the man is always able to overcome and will be constantly
looking more, technology is always on his side firstly in facilitating his work, but
not become its slave.
