Intended Use
The device is used to display operating and error measures of monitored power supply systems of
medically used areas according to IEC 60364-7-710 / DIN VDE 0100-710 (VDE 0100 Part
710):2002-11 (e.g. device type SPR/ILT/UEI-710) and other devices from the HospEC system. Further, the device also enables triggering of test functions of connected IT network monitoring devices
(e.g. device type ILT/UEI-710).
Communication takes place via the CAN bus. Via an additional printed circuit board, digital signals
can also be directly registered and analysed by external systems or devices from the HospEC system.
Functions
2.1
The signals are emitted by an acoustic transducer, visually with LEDs and as a full graphic display.
The operating states are registered by the CAN bus, or via an additional printed circuit board.
The device can be adjusted to the respective project with any texts for plain text display via the menu
with preset default texts or via a PC parameter setting program. A large backlit full graphic display is
used for clear display of the information.
The expected operating states are assigned to 3 signalling levels: "Operation", "Warning" and
"Fault". Up to 200 different operating states can be displayed. The messages are output as 4-line
text. This message text can be made up from a list of up to 200 self-edited single line texts.
If several BMTI4 devices are used, the devices can monitor each other, failure of the device is then
signalled by the other BMTI4 devices.
2.2
Test function
The test function of connected IT network monitoring devices (device type ILT/UEI-710) can be
triggered at the BMTI4. Communication with devices from the HospEC system takes place via the
CAN bus. External devices can be placed in test mode via the relay output of the additional printed
circuit board.

The device is installed in flush-mounting housings. The assembly, installation, connection and putting into service may be carried out by qualified electricians only in compliance with the existing
safety regulations and standards.
4.1
Connection
The device must be connected according to the connection diagram and paying attention to the
characteristic values of the individual connections. Note and take into account the device's technical
data.
4.2
After applying the supply voltage (from the CAN bus or separate power pack) the device is ready for
service. The power pack, which provides the supply voltage, must be connected to a safe, secure
mains system.
The device is usually delivered with preset parameters. The menu can be used to configure standard
projects, see Sub-menu 9. The PC parameter setting software can be used to make project-specific
adjustments, to integrate other device types and to generate free message texts. The PC parameter
setting software can be purchased if necessary from ESA-Grimma GmbH.
Changes to the settings have relevant effects on safety!
Changes may only be made by an authorised qualified electrician. You should only make
changes if you are clear about the consequences! If in doubt, please consult ESAGrimma GmbH.
4.3
The device automatically monitors all connected external or internal sensors and connections for
function or correct operation and therefore does not require regular maintenance.
4.3.1
Initial test
The initial test is performed in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-710 (VDE 0100 Part 710):2002-11 as
a supplement to DIN VDE 0100-610. The initial test must be documented and filed with the system
documentation.
The "Iso Test" is to be triggered for all planned isolation monitoring devices. Further, it is also necessary to check whether all the required and planned signals/messages arrive at the device.

5.2
Fault-free operation
If no error messages are queued, the green LED lights up and "Ready for Service" appears in the
display.
5.3
A warning message deletes the green LED and the yellow LED flash. A horn tone sounds at the
same time. The tone level and interval length can be defined using the PC parameter setting software. If the message is acknowledged, the horn sound is muted and the yellow LED switches to continuously lit.
A fault message is the highest signalling / message level. It deletes the yellow LED, the red LED
starts to flash and the horn sounds. The parameters for the type of horn sound can be set as for the
warning message. The acknowledgement deletes the horn signal and the red LED lights up continuously. Apart from the LED display and horn sound, the corresponding text messages are also output
on the display.
5.4
Acoustic signals
All acoustic messages can be acknowledged using the lamp test/acknowledge key, i.e. the horn is
switched off. This key can also be used to test the function of the LEDs and the horn in fault-free operation. As long as this key is pressed, all LEDs light up and the horn sounds.
10
5.5
Unacknowledged messages/signals
It is possible to use the menu to switch to display unacknowledged messages / signals. If a warning
or fault message occurs and is cancelled again without being acknowledged, the "U" symbol in the
bottom right-hand side of the display flashes. If only operating messages are then queued, the green
LED also flashes. The unacknowledged messages can then be called in the "Message Memory"
menu item. This display can be reset by pressing the lamp test key or by reading the message
memory.
11
5.6
Pressing the Enter key for a sustained period opens the menu. The Enter symbol in the display
flashes. Press the lamp test key to return to the normal display.

key again to deactivate the function.
5.7.1.2
Important menu functions such as password entry, date/time, delete message memory, ISO test and
standard projects are password protected. To release them, a four-digit number combination must be
set (factory setting 1000). The number is set using the UP and DOWN keys. Use the Enter key to
jump to the next digit. After pressing "Enter", after the fourth digit, the functions are released or, if the
wrong combination is entered, the cursor jumps back to the first digit with "wrong password" message. The release can also be identified by the open lock symbol on the right. It is also possible to
jump back to the first digit by pressing ESC. The release is withdrawn again after 10 minutes. To disable the release beforehand, select the menu item in the Basic Settings and press the Enter key
once.
5.7.1.3
Changing the release password. To do this, the release must have been given; otherwise the system
switches to the "Parameter Release" function. A new password is created as described in Menu item
1.2. The new number combination must be entered twice.
Note the new password in a safe place! If the password is lost, parameter setting mode can
only be released by an authorised service technician of ESA-Grimma GmbH.
15
5.7.1.4
Setting the date and time. The UP and DOWN keys are used to set the value to which the triangle
points. If the key is kept pressed, the value automatically changes according to the length for which
the key is pressed. Press the Enter key to jump to the next value. After pressing "Enter" after the last
value, "Value Set" appears in the display. Use the lamp test key to quit this function. A time telegram
is sent to the CAN bus. All display devices, panels or BMTI4 devices connected to this bus now also
change their time at the same time.
5.7.1.5
The Enter key is used to delete the message memory. The "Memory Cleared" message appears.
Use the lamp test key to exit this function.
5.7.1.6
This item switches the display of unacknowledged messages ON or OFF. These are messages
which have been cancelled without prior acknowledgement.
This menu item is activated using the Enter key. Use the UP and DOWN keys to switch between On
and Off.
On:
If messages existed which were cancelled without prior acknowledgement, the "U" symbol
appears in the display. If no more other warning or fault messages are queued, the green
LED flashes.
Off:
If messages existed which were cancelled without prior acknowledgement, this is not
signalled. However, these messages can still be viewed in the message memory.
5.7.1.7
This is used to set the time, after which a queued acoustic alarm is activated again. The setting is
also activated with "Enter". The UP and DOWN keys can be used to set values between 1 and 99
min. If "0" is set, alarm repeat is deactivated. Press the Enter key again to deactivate this menu item
again.
5.7.1.8
Messages can also be displayed at several BMTI4 devices at the same time. These devices are
grouped together. A message can then be acknowledged at each device including for all other devices in this group.
A device can be assigned to 2 groups, identified by a group number for each.
The first group is named as an "own group". The BMTI4 uses this number to signal its acknowledgement to the CAN bus. The number of the sub-group of the BMTI4s, which monitor the same
network, is usually set here. The "main group" is the number with which all BMTI4 devices can be
acknowledged at the CAN bus. If a "0" is entered in the groups, the (joint) acknowledgement is
switched off.
16
5.7.2
This function can also be viewed without release. This diagnosis function enables the last 200 messages to be called with date/time (first line). The number of the called messages and the total number of messages to arrive is displayed in the second line. The third line outputs the project planning
number of the message and whether the event came (comes) or left (goes) at this point or was acknowledged (ack) or whether the ISO test function (Test) was triggered. The Enter key can be used
to call the planned text for this event. A star appears in the top right-hand side of this menu to differentiate between it and the normal basic menu. Display mode is quit using the acknowledgement key.
5.7.3
Sub-menu: 3. Change-over
This function can be called without release. If no switchover is entered in the current project, the "No
SPR planned" text only is displayed. If switchovers have been created in the project, the thirst line
contains the number of the switchover selected using the arrow keys and which line is active. If a
switchover is not at the bus, i.e. has no connection, the "No Telegrams!" text is displayed. If everything is ok, the first and second lines contain the voltage values for each phase of the first and second line. All switchovers in the network are displayed (device type SPR/UEI-710, hereinafter referred
to as SPR only).
5.7.4
This function can also be viewed without release. If no IT network monitoring is entered in the project, the "No ILT planned!" text is output. Otherwise, the number and quantity of planned monitoring
operations are also displayed in the first line. The current and transformer capacity utilisation are output in the second line and the measured isolation value is output in the third line. All monitoring in the
network is displayed (device type ILT/UEI-710, hereinafter referred to as ILT only).
5.7.5
The test of the isolation monitoring depends on whether an isolation monitoring device (ILT) was
planned at the field bus. If IT net monitoring is planned, this menu item is used to select an individual
device for the test. This is triggered by pressing the Enter key, as given in lines 2 and 3. As long as
the Enter key is kept pressed, the third line contains the "Test Running!" message. If the key is released, "Test Finished!" appears. If the selected monitoring is not at the CAN bus, the "No Telegrams!" message is output in the second line. This function can only be used following its release!
