CITIZEN ACTION WORKSHOP GUIDE: WHAT’S UP & WHO’S ON
Alphabetical by topic. See times & locations on facing page

Best Practices for Effective Organizing: The Tea Party is the most important new political force of this decade, and Tea Party Patriots is
its leading voice. Learn from TPP’s frontline veterans.

Build and Sustain a Grassroots Machine: Permanent issue battles call for a permanent presence by our side with volunteers, coalitions,
and monitoring of elected officials. Here’s how to do it.

Can People of Faith Regain a Place and Voice in the Public Square? With surveys showing Americans see religious people as “part of
the problem,” a new approach is needed. Briefing by pollster Dee Alsop.

Confronting the Ugly Underside of Washington DC: Why don’t politicians vote the way they campaigned? Why do R’s and D’s both
ignore us? Get answers from Tea Party Patriots’ Bill Pascoe.

Conservative Compassion for the Homeless: Learn how Denver’s nationally acclaimed success model for turning substance abusers’ lives
around, Step 13 as founded by the late Bob Cote, is moving ahead.

Discover the Power of Telephone Town Hall Meetings: Go way beyond the rote recorded robocall for national, talk-radio-style dialogue
with elected officials and thought leaders. Workshop by local experts.

Effectively Using Social Media: Twitter and Facebook can either be a force multiplier or a time sink. Matt Frate of Tea Party Patriots tells
how to weaponize your phone for the political wars.

Energize Your Church for Civic Engagement: Why are the people I worship with uninterested or uninvolved politically? Salt and Light
Council offers answers and a proven action plan.

How to Deal with the Media: Reporters, editors, and broadcasters aren’t automatically your adversary or your ally. Learn the proven ways
of relating to them from Diana Banister of Tea Party Patriots.

How to Defend Your Gun Rights: Radical anti-gun policy is on its way! Learn what to expect, what to do about it, and traps to avoid.
Take action with the National Association for Gun Rights.

How to Hold Your Legislators Accountable: Whether in Colorado or any state, the Principles of Liberty scoring system can give citizens
powerful leverage against the backsliding of government insiders.

How to Win the War for the Free World: Frank Gaffney, our friend from the Hugh Hewitt Show and every Summit since 2010, outlines
the needed American response to growing global jihad and disorder.

Learn from C.S. Lewis about Liberty vs. Statism: Discover an unsuspected ally in our fight against progressivism in defense of natural
law, Judeo-Christian tradition, and the American founding.

Lessons from the Left: ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief tells about working inside the progressive movement and how she came to
embrace economic freedom.

Mobilize to Stop Iran and the Jihadists: Obama’s weakness abroad makes constant public pressure and firm resolve in Congress impera-
tive. Get involved via the citizens group SecureAmericaNow.com.

Moving the Middle with Digital Media: We hear it said the right must catch up with the left in “technology,” but what does that really
mean? Allen Fuller and David Flaherty report on new strides.

great leads and tips from Leadership Institute’s Patricia Simpson.

Trump the Race Card: It’s possible to change the narrative, possible to share your conservative views with minorities and not come over as
racist. Frederick Douglass Republicans have the answer.

Voter Fraud: How Obama is Subverting our Elections: Renowned investigative reporter John Fund literally wrote the book on both the
horrid Holder Justice Department and the left’s assault on ballot integrity.

War of the Worldviews: Worldviews shape politics, economics, and culture with little awareness by most of us. Learn to spot and counter
them with briefer Don Hood, a Colson Centurions graduate.

Want to Engage to Win? Come learn practical communication skills to spread our morally superior formula and reclaim our political cul-
ture, one impressionable person at a time. Trainer: Melanie Sturm.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER / WESTERN CONSERVATIVE SUMMIT STRAW POLL

Who’s your choice to succeed Obama? Again this year, Summit delegates are invited to vote their preference
in the next race for the Presidency. Our first straw poll in 2011 went to Herman Cain. The 2012 vice-presidential

Carson. For 2015 we welcome The Washington Examiner as official sponsor of the poll.

Every WCS15 delegate will find a Straw Poll Ballot in your registration packet. Voting is open all weekend, and
we’ll tabulate the results just before adjournment on Sunday noon. Your badge is your voting credential. A poll-
watcher will punch it to indicate you have voted. Extra ballots available at the polling places.

Voting stations are located at the Centennial Institute booth near Mile High Ballroom
and at the Registration desk near Bellco Theater. May the best man or woman win!

The mission of Worldviews, Calling & Culture is to influence our culture by
training and equipping individuals and organizations to fully understand their
worldview, the worldviews of others, and how these worldviews battle for the
hearts and minds of everyone in our culture.

We accomplish this by teaching in schools, churches, and businesses as well as

partnering with organizations such as the Colson Center for Christian Worldview,
Colorado Christian University, Summit Ministries, and the John Jay Institute. For
more information please see our website.

Do you ever wonder what worldview dominates Washington DC? Do you know
what the differing worldviews are and wonder why worldview matters? If so,
please attend the "War of the Worldviews" workshop Saturday June 27th at 3:30

SIX YEARS OF THE WESTERN CONSERVATIVE SUMMIT
SUMMIT 2010: Over 900 of us gathered on July 9-11, 2010, near (but not in) Lone Tree, Colorado,
whose city fathers comically disavowed the whole thing. The theme was “Right Turn, Right Now,”
which echoed all the way to Congress four months later. If you were there, you will remember great
moments including these:

Michele Bachmann, congresswoman from Minnesota, roused the summiteers with her Friday
keynote on defending liberty. Arthur Brooks of AEI, author of The Battle, focused his warning on the
threat to free enterprise from big government. Colorado Springs columnist Michelle Malkin joked that
Michele Bachmann
the rollicking crowd at Saturday lunch was no “angry mob.” Freedom is inborn since we’re each precious
to God, proclaimed author and Hollywood actor Joseph C. Phillips. The election stakes are either a free-
dom revival or economic ruin, warned Fox News contributor Dick Morris at Sunday brunch.

SUMMIT 2011: We gathered over a thousand strong for the second annual rally in the Rockies on July
29-31, now in downtown Denver to accommodate more delegates—and to bask in national media at-
tention as four presidential hopefuls came to woo them. “Fulfilling America’s Promise” was the theme,
and highlights included:
Joseph C. Phillips
Rick Santorum, former senator from Pennsylvania, flashed with passion and principle as he made his
case on Friday for the GOP nomination against Obama. Rick Perry, governor of Texas, spelled out
the economic freedom agenda and Tenth Amendment federalism he hoped would propel him to the
White House. Former UN Ambassador John Bolton, contemplating a presidential candidacy, reviewed
the threats to America in a dangerous world. Dennis Prager of Salem Radio keynoted the Saturday
luncheon as we paid tribute to Ronald Reagan’s centenary, 1911-2011. Saturday’s Summit Banquet
was enlivened by author Mark Steyn appealing for America to reject decline. Bringing the Summit to a
climax, yet another White House hopeful, Georgia businessman Herman Cain, rocked the house—and
then swept the Denver Straw Poll. Rick Santorum

SUMMIT 2012: Two of the same thing may be a coincidence, but three make a trend. Convening on
June 29-July 1 at yet another larger venue, summiteers topped the 1,500 mark and enjoyed new fea-
tures including Citizen Action Workshops and the Right Movies. The theme was “Calling All Citizens,”
with election-year urgency in the air.

Glenn Beck, author and radio host, energized a record crowd at the opening banquet. Then Wayne
LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA, made the case for Second Amendment rights as insepa-
rable from all our American freedoms. Two Western governors got us started on Saturday morning:
Herman Cain
Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona and Gov. Matt Mead of Wyoming. William J. Bennett, author of America:
The Last Best Hope, inspired the Saturday luncheon. Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, the first
foreign leader to address a Western Conservative Summit, unsparingly laid out the Islamist threat to
our civilization.

26 WCS 2015 | Your Story: Freedom Alive

SUMMIT 2013: The theme was “Freedom’s New Day,” helping conservatives rebound from
electoral disappointments and amping up the energy for an off-year earthquake among Colorado
voters. Our fourth annual rally on the right set another attendance mark with 2,000 delegates
on hand.

Opening night sizzled with Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and congressional candidate Mia Love of
Utah. Saturday ranged from the intellectual brilliance of social scientist Charles Murray and historian
Victor Davis Hanson to the inspirational wit of Jonah Goldberg. Political star power showed up with
Glenn Beck former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Florida Rep. Allen West, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who
drew several standing ovations and won the 2016 straw poll.

SUMMIT 2014: Beginning to be known as the CPAC of the summertime, the CPAC of the
heartland, we convened again on July 18-20 to celebrate “America at Its Best.” Evening rallies
at the glittering Bellco Theater swelled overall turnout to 3,500, some of whom even had rhythm
when the Blue Bear mascot showed up and breakdancing broke out.

Opening night featured Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. Mike Lee, and Dr. Ben Carson, the eventual straw
poll winner. Sarah Palin and Sen. Tim Scott electrified Saturday, with Dennis Prager, Jim DeMint,
Jan Brewer and Sen. Ted Cruz lighting up that night’s show. Allen West again capped Sunday with a rousing
call to action.

SPREADING OUR WINGS: SUMMIT 2015

So is the Western Conservative Summit here to stay? Ask this year’s expected 4,000
delegates from 40 states. Ask the national conservative groups that lined up as sponsors.

Ask the political schedulers who now approach us, not vice versa, about booking a senator
Mike Huckabee
or congressman or governor to speak. Ask C-SPAN and the other major media outlets that
cover WCS each summer.

Such is our growth in both prestige and numbers that this year we’ve fully moved into
the Colorado Convention Center, and we’ve again stretched the week to include a Young
Conservatives Leadership Conference in recent days over at CCU. So welcome to WCS15,
“Your Story: Freedom Alive.”

SUMMIT CONVENER: CENTENNIAL INSTITITUTE
WHAT WE ARE

Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University was established in 2009 under the direction of John
Andrews, former president of the Colorado Senate.

We are a think tank, sponsoring research, events, and publications to enhance public understanding of the most
important issues facing our state and nation.

We provide an open forum where current issues are tested against the timeless principles of the American
founding.

By proclaiming Truth, we aim to foster faith, family, and freedom, to teach citizenship, and to renew the spirit
of 1776.

WHAT WE ARE NOT

We analyze public policy, but we are not a lobby. We frame alternatives and advocate civic engagement, but we
do not endorse candidates or ballot issues.

We encourage competitive politics and constitutional debate, but we are not for or against any political party.

We mentor students, but we are not an academic department. We serve the God of the Bible, but we are not
exclusive in our outreach to Americans of all beliefs and viewpoints.

THE INSTITUTE AND THE UNIVERSITY

Centennial Institute’s work is guided by the strategic objectives of Colorado Christian University, as set forth by
President Bill Armstrong, among which are:

• To be seekers of truth and to debunk “spent ideas” and those who traffic in them.

• To impact our culture in support of traditional family values, sanctity of life, compassion for the poor, Biblical
view of human nature, limited government, personal freedom, free markets, natural law, original intent of
the Constitution and Western civilization.

• To be a magnet for outstanding students and prepare them for positions of significant leadership in the
church, business, government, and professions by offering an excellent education in strategic disciplines.

Centennial Institute is funded by designated contributions from friends, not from CCU general revenues or tuitions.

CCU TEACHES TIMELESS CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES

Construction on New Residence Hall

Your hopes for our nation and our world don’t rest on one person. They rest on thousands of men and women who can lead
courageously and live out their faith.

Colorado Christian University is one of the few institutions that is helping to meet your hopes. Every day, we equip students whose
impact goes far beyond our campus.

• Faithful Leadership: Students become politicians, CEOs, doctors, and teachers—furthering their impact on future generations.
• Social Impact: CCU supports traditional family values, the sanctity of life, limited government, free markets, and the original
intent of the Constitution.
• Compassionate Service: Countless opportunities to serve in the community and around the world help students develop a
lifetime habit of service.

These promising, young leaders will better the

future for your children and grandchildren. CCU’s
Lakewood Campus Redevelopment project,
which began in 2014, will continue to equip these
students. Undergrads and faculty will experience
new state-of-the-art classrooms, residence halls,
and student life center. A new chapel will promote
spiritual growth and fellowship like never before.

Campus Redevelopment will cost over $120

million, but it will spur invaluable change in our
community and world. We need your help to
make it happen.

WANT TO HELP KEEP FREEDOM ALIVE?
Write the Centennial Institute into your story.
Amid concerns that our country has lost its way in liberalism
and secularism, Centennial Institute upholds the spirit of
1776 and maps the way toward American renewal for 2076
and beyond. We invite you to become a member and join
the effort.

As Colorado Christian University’s think tank, we research

policy issues, sponsor forums and debates, mentor the 1776
Scholars, publish Centennial Review, and host the annual
Western Conservative Summit. We stand for truth, exactly as
America’s founders did. That’s uncommon these days. Won’t
you stand with us?

Build on your Summit experience by staying involved with

Centennial Institute throughout the year. Sign up for our free
publications by postal mail or e-mail. Attend our lecture and
debate series and participate in Issue Monday each month.
Invite one of our Fellows to speak before your group. Help
us create internships or political learning opportunities for
CCU students, the next generation of young leaders.

And please consider a financial contribution to sustain all

these vital activities. Your support will help Centennial Institute
in the battle to restore liberty and limited government and
renew America’s moral core.

Please join today. Memberships start at just $35,

and contributions are tax-deductible.
