If you can afford it, use a certified tutor to help you prepare. Or, also contingent upon
cost, enroll in a GMAT preparation course.
Master the easiest and basic lessons so that you will become more confident.

Pay more attention to your weak spots.

Teach others: organize a group and do serious study. It's less boring that way.

Take notes for all the points for the future reference.

Read a lot and extensively so that your speed of reading will help you in the GMAT
reading comprehension section.

Try to score the highest marks in Quantitative section.

Start your preparation well in advance.

When dealing with Algebra questions where the answer is a formula, pick numbers and
plug them into the answers to find the correct answer faster than working through the
algebra.

Review, familiarize with and possibly memorize some of the commonly-used geometric
formulas (Unless you are very mathematical, get tutoring since a college senior has not
had geometry since the 10th grade approx.):

If side a = 5cm and so the other sides would be 2 * 5 and 5 *

In a 30, 60, 90 triangle, if the short side is named a, the

hypotenuse (long side) is 2a, and the medium side is a3.
o

In the isosceles right triangle the angles are 45, 45, 90, and if the
two equal sides are named a and the third side (hypotenuse) is
a2.

The dotted segments are not part of the triangle. In this triangle
the perpendicular height is measured outside the triangle.
The area of a triangle is A = 1/2(b * h) where the height is
perpendicular to the base from the vertex that is opposite the
base.
The height may need to be measured inside or outside the triangle
depending on the type of triangle and which side is the base.
o
o

The area of either a parallelogram or rectangle is A = b * h . The

height may be inside or outside the parallelogram.
The area of the square is A = s2 where s means the length of the
side.

It takes an area of about 3 * r2 to help visualize what r2

means.

The area of a circle is A = r2 . The shaded square region shows

the area of r2, which is to help visualize what 3.14 times radius
squared means.
o
o

The circumference of a circle is A = 2r OR A = d.

A circle graph is based on either arcs or central angles which are
percentages of 360 where the total 360 means 100%. 180
means 50%. 90 means 25%. Calculation examples:

17% is how many degrees? 17% of 360 = 0.17 * 360 =

61 approx.
30 represents what percentage? Using the fraction of 30
for 360 it is
30/360 * 100% = 8.333333333... or 30 represents
approx 8.3 percent
