Greek and Latin Roots eLearning Module: User Guide
This document is a facilitators guide to delivering an online eLearning module about
Greek and Latin Roots. The sections below include a topic overview, technology requirements,
and student access and navigation. The final section reviews the directions within the module.
Module Overview
This stand-alone lesson was created with SmartBuilder, an online-only content authoring
program. This lesson was developed in response to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
requirement that students use affixes and roots to determine the meanings of words (Common
Core State Standards Initiative, 2010). Through video, animation, and audio narration, students
will be introduced to nine common roots, including those specified in the CCSS. Students then
have a variety of activities to practice applying their knowledge, and are prompted to reflect on
their learning throughout the lesson.
Technology, Access, and Navigation
Students will access the lesson on desktops in the computer lab, or on updated laptops
from the mobile lab. Students need headphones to listen to narration without disturbing their
classmates. A link to the module will be posted in Google Classroom, which students are adept
at navigating.
Once in the module, navigation is simple. Students will use a Back and Next button to
move between pages of the module. These buttons are located in the lower right hand corner.
There is one page in the module that bears a special mention. The page titled The Roots
consists of four tabbed displays. In order to switch between the displays, students click on the
tabs.
