Assalamualaikum w.b.t. and a very good morning to:The honourable Mr. Kadir Jailani bin Mohamad, the headmasters of SK
Gombak Setia, respected teachers, parents and member of the floor. With
Gods blessings, we are able to gather on this cheerful morning to
continue the 14th Parents-Teachers Association ( PTA ) Annual Meeting of
SK Gombak Setia . I am honoured and grateful for the willingness of the
parents to attend our meeting this year. It is a great pleasure for me to be here
today. Our presence here shows that we always give support and
encouragement to the administrators and teachers of this school, along
with them to promote the education agenda for the excellence of our
children in the future, both in the field of education and personal
development. Support from parents is required by the school to produce
first class human capital. Congratulations to the parents who are willing to
spending time to be here together to express concern and responsibility
as a member of the PTA of SK Gombak Setia.
The development of this association is fully backed by members of the
PTA. Committee members who are entrusted through the selection during
the annual General Meeting acts as the intermediary between the school
and all members of the PTA. Contribution in terms of expertise,
capabilities and strength of each member are welcomed to execute the
planned programs. I really hope that parents who are present today can
contribute in terms of thoughts and physical assistance because those are
the valuable asset of this association Therefore, I urge all members to be
equally committed and united to become the driving force of this
association to make it more dynamic.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The UPSR achievement in 2014 was generally unsatisfactory. Therefore,
my remarks today will focus more on the plans to improve the UPSR
results and proposal to increase PTA funding for programs in order to
increase academic achievement especially UPSR. Accordingly, I also want
to draw audiences attention by presenting the UPSR results achieved in

2014. I hope this presentation will give a clear picture of the level of
achievement of 2014 UPSR to the parents. Thus, we can find ways for
academic enhancement program designed to overcome the issue. Based
on the information that I obtained through the headmasters and teachers
in this school, percentage of UPSR achievement last year shows a drop,
especially in the three subjects as Mathematics, Science and English.
According to the quality analysis, nobody got all A's in all subjects.
While the percentage of achievement in terms of the quantity that passed
all subjects was 50% compared to 85% in the previous year. In terms of
School Average Grade (GPS), the school get 2.53% compared to 2.07% in
the previous year.. By post mortem, we found out that the decrease in the
percentage of the quantity and GPS is caused by a number of students
failed in Mathematics, Science and English subject. Average Point Grade
(GPMP) for Mathematics is 3.29%, while GPMP for Science subjects is
3.04% and for English is 3.08%. This situation has indirectly contributed to
the decline in the quality of UPSR achievement (0%), quantity (50%) and
GPS (2.53%).
There are several factors that contribute to the deterioration of these
three subjects, among which are the lack of programs that can motivate
student learning. It can clearly be seen when students eager to learn and
no homework given is not prepared and often skipping school. Moreover,
lack of answering techniques motivation program at the school level. This
situation causes the pupil to answer questions without reference to the
requirements of the question. The decline is also due because the lack of
funds to carry out the activities of the school's academic improvement as
provision of government money given inadequate.
Based on the statement above, I would like to propose several programs
to help improve academic performance in the public examination,
especially UPSR in the major 3 subjects which are unsatisfactory
performance in 2014.

2.0 Recommendations program for improving the performance of

2015 UPSR.
2.1 English Subject
.
2.1.1. English Drilling on Monday and Tuesday.
To improve the academic achievement in English, I suggest that the
English committee in school run a program "English Day". English
Drilling on Tuesday and Wednesday is a program to improve the
skills of students in terms of speaking and listening. This program
requires that all residents speak English in school every Tuesday and
Wednesday. I have been informed by the headmaster that this
program had been run by the school in past years, namely only on
Tuesdays only. For this year, I suggest that the program "English
day" is held over two days, Tuesday and Wednesday for each week.
With this program, it is expected that students and teachers can
interact in English and at the same time, students can also apply
the knowledge they have learned in classroom. English will also be
a daily communication tool in school and at home. Implementation
of this program should be monitored by the chairperson and all the

English committee members to ensure the program runs smoothly.

Parents who have language skills, can also help their children by
speaking using simple English with their children at home and at the
same time, guide and familiarize them with the language.
2.1.2 Story Telling and Public Speaking.
To further enhance student mastery in English, I suggest that the
committee held an English story-telling contest and public speaking
at school. This program can be run in the afternoon during extracurricular activities. The program is to assess students mastery in
English. In addition, the program can also spot for students talents
to represent the school to compete at the district level. This
program is not only for students who will sit for UPSR examination,
but also all students at first level. To make it more interesting, prizes
will be given to winners. PTA will assist in the preparing the prizes to
the winners.

2.2 Mathematic Subject

2.2.1 Exercise and work book
Mathematics is a subject that is difficult and less desirable by some
of the students. To answer math questions, they should have been
given the formula and proficient skills in computation. To attract
students with these subjects, I suggest that the school provides
several books to facilitate the students in Mathematics drilling.
Drilling can improve their skills in these subjects. Teachers need to
set the amount of exercise that should be completed within a week.
For the weak pupils, more exercises should be given and monitored

by the teacher to ensure students engagement. In school, activities

can be conducted in the afternoon while parents monitor the activity
at homes. I suggest that teachers identify and emphasize on the
students weaknesses in guiding them. Training must also be given
on topics that are not yet be mastered. The cost to buy these books is
funded by the PTA.
2.2.2 The Gathering of Knowledge
Wherefore mathematics is a subject that is considered
difficult,

also

suggest

to

holding

programme

called

Perkampungan Ilmu . The Gathering of Knowledge is an effective

program and to enhance the skills of students in mathematics. This
is how the implementation of the pupils was divided into groups
according to their skill level. Each group has 5 students and each
group has 2 or 3 teachers. In this program, many of the teachers
involved in helping troubled UPSR students in mathematics. Through
this program, teachers can give more attention and give more
guidance and also can solve every problem faced by the students.
Pupils who have a weak motivation will usually remain silent and do
not want to do activities even asked by the teacher.

2.2.3 One Student One Mentor Program.

One Student One Mentor is a program that can improve students
achievement in UPSR. I suggest that all Year Six students have a
mentor among teachers in schools. This program is also called
mentor mentee program. Mentor mentee is a process of interaction
between teachers and students that involve guiding, supporting and

advising. In this program, mentor will not only concerns about the
well-being of the mentee and maintaining the psychological
relationship, but it also builds students confidence in dealing with
problems and stress in life. In addition, teachers can also give love
and appreciation to their mentee in order to increase their
motivation to learn. By post Mortem, students who failed in UPSR
are lack of motivation. Report of the supervisory 2014 UPSR, many
of the students, read the question casually and did not finish
answering the questions. Some of them sleep in class after they
answered. Looking at this situation, I feel that they should be given
a mentor to provide guidance and advice to focus on their problems.
This program can be implemented during appropriate time such as
after school, during recess and other times at suitable time for
teachers and students.
2.3 Science Subject
2.3.1 Answering Techniques Motivation
Motivational answering techniques programs are programs that are
of no less important. The program is necessary because students
should be exposed to the techniques that are easy, quick and
precise to answer the question correctly. Students failure is mostly
due to their mistake and misunderstanding of the requirements of
the question. This is the main reason why they failed to get good
results in examinations. Hence, they need to be exposed to the
techniques to understand the questions correctly to avoid confusion
and avoid making the same mistakes. Therefore, I suggest that
school invites motivational experts among experienced UPSR exam
markers. Students can learn to answer the questions correctly with
the right technique and their guidance. This program is not only
useful to students but even teachers can also benefit from it. If

there is any member of PTA who has expertise in these fields, he or

she is welcomed to provide services to the students of this school.
2.3.2 School Holiday Additional Class Program.
Extra classes during the school holidays are one of the programs
that are effective and can improve students achievement in UPSR.
The program runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 12:00
noon. One of the reasons for this program is because it is a program
that has been implemented by schools that achieved success in
UPSR last year. For example is SK Danau Kota which has been
successful in increasing the quality, quantity and GPS. Based on the
information that I got from the teachers in the school, they conduct
these activities every week throughout the year. I would also
suggest teachers who teach extra classes are not teachers from this
school but outside teachers or teachers who are experts in this area.
It is intended to expose students with more new knowledge and
skills on this subject from the specialist teacher. The program is
expected to solve the problems faced by students in learning
science.
2.3.3 Daily Science Word.
In order to understand the requirements of answer scheme in science paper, pupils
should be able to decode the given questions in the language that they understand.
Some words needs to be understood that they can understand what the questions
asked and what they should answer. Due of the situation, its a vital to encourage
pupil to memorize a science word per day.

2.4 Proposal to add PTA Fund.

We are all aware of our PTA financial crisis. Therefore, I also want to
give some suggestions to solve the financial problems of the PTA.
Among my suggestion is:
2.4.1 Raising PTA fees.
Due to the financial issue, school cannot carry out activities to
improve student academic achievement. Therefore I suggest that
PTA fee per family is increased from RM30 to RM50 for one family.
Given the increasing number of students this year from 180 to 240
people, I'm sure the PTA fees collection will also increase and the
proceeds of this fee will help the school provide academic
enhancement program, especially programs designed to improve
the UPSR.
2.4.2 Apply the contribution from NGOs or Private Sectors.
Moreover, I also propose that the PTA committee members who
work in government or private sector to help to apply for donations
from any company or certain bodies to add PTA funds. Some of the
company already located certain sum of money for social and
educations purposed as a part of their annual contribution. Donations
also can be obtained from the association of former students.
2.4.3 Charity Dinner

OUMH1303

ENGLISH FOR ORAL COMMUNICATION

SHAHAROM B HAMIDON

I suggest that we hold a Charity Dinner based on the concept of offering dinner table
to specific target groups such as the alumni, parents, teachers, individuals, the private
sector and NGOs. Income earned is from purchases, sponsorships and donations from
the participant. The program will be held at the end of October 2015. I hoped that
members of the PTA will take part in this program and also promoting the event to the
local community.
2.4.4 Sales of second-hand items
Another program is a car boot sales. I suggest that members donate their second-band
items that are still in good condition for sale during the entrepreneurship day held in
August. They can bring things likes clothes, shoes, books, magazines, school bags
and stationery. Items will be sold at low prices and the profit will be deposited into the
PTA fund.
3.0 Conclusion
Academic achievement of students is an essential task and responsibility
of teachers, but it is not entirely the teachers responsibility. Parents should
also be involved through the program introduced by the Ministry of
Education as School Facilities and Parents Support. This program was
introduced as a platform for parents to get involve with the school and
their childrens learning environment. It also encourage the community to
involve

with the school activities.. I hope teachers and parents can

continue works side by side with greater effort to bring the best out of our
children towards the vision and mission of SK Gombak Setia. Teachers
need to be more creative and innovative, have knowledge and skills
related to teaching method and cultivate learning community. Teachers
need to develop strategies and find new ideas in implementing their
teaching method in the classroom.
Finally, as a PTA president, once again I urge and hope that all parents and
teachers may cooperate in this noble goal, since this goal will not be

achieved without the help and support from all parties. I hope that our
prayers are granted by Allah SWT.
Before I step down, I like to asking for forgiveness if there is any error or
mistakes occurred during my speech.

United we stand, divided we fall

Thanks for listening.
