Pages - AE CS3 Project File

Thank you so much for buying this project!

Everything in it is reasonably straightforward once you know your way
around. So let's go layer by layer so you can understand how easy it is
incorporate your own content and adjust other things.
If you need any assistance, please PM me from VideoHive (as opposed to
leaving a comment which I might not see for a few days or more) and Ill
do my best to help.
Tip: Before you do anything, save a back-up copy of the project file - just
in case you need it :)
I recommend you start by preparing your own content for the 16 pages,
which are 660px wide by 840px tall.
Images
If you are using just images, by far the easiest way to do this is to
prepare each image to the correct dimensions outside AE and then save
your files (01.jpg, 02.jpg etc) to replace the placeholder images in the
Assets Folder that came with the main file. Then when you open the
project your images will be read-in and everything will be automatically
updated. If you get an error message about missing files, simply open the
assets folder in the project panel, right click on image 01.jpg and select
replace footage>file. Find your new 01.jpg, click OK and AE should then
find the other 15 images in the assets folder. You will be asked to
confirm.
Video
You can either use full-page sized video or any smaller size, for example
you may want a video in the top-half of a page with some words
underneath. Rather than re-size your clips before importing, it is
probably easier to import them at their current size and then work on
them inside the project (see below).
Logo/Message
I recommend either .psd, .png or .eps format, with transparent
background. You can make it any size you like but I suggest
approximately 700px wide by 400px tall.

Once all your assets are ready and have been imported, youre ready to
begin customizing the project.
Lets start with your logo, which opens and closes the sequence

A) Logo/Message
1) Double-click the Logo/Message pre-comp, to open it from the Project
Panel
2) You will see it currently consist of two layers one text layer and a
shape layer (the word Pages which you will probably want to delete).
3) In the text layer you can write your own text, change the font, the
colour or delete it and drag down your own logo, positioning it in the
centre of the pre-comp.
4) Return to the Main Comp and check your positioning, both at the
beginning and at the end of the sequence. Note that both these layers
have blending mode>overlay applied, which you can change. You can
also adjust the way each layer is animated and the dissolves involved.

B) Page 01 - 16
Assuming you followed the image advice above, then every page will
now be displaying your own image. If not, heres how to customize each
page add text and/or video too:
1) In the Project Panel, double-click to open a Page pre-comp.
2) Notice it currently contains two layers a placeholder image and an
adjustment layer (with the exception of Page 01) which applies a Light
Sweep effect to brighten the left edge of right-hand pages and darken
the right edge of left-hand pages.
3) The precise position of the image inside the pre-comp is vitally
important so be careful to position it exactly
4) The easiest way to precisely replace the placeholder image is to select
the layer and then alt-drag your image onto it

Text
1) To add text to any page, simply grab the Text cursor and click in the
preview window. This will create a new text layer
2) Type your text, change the font, the colour, maybe add a drop shadow
and place it where you think looks best. Much will depend on the image
you have used.
Video
How you handle this will largely depend on the size of the footage you
want to incorporate on the page.
1) If you want full-page video, drag down your footage to create a new
layer under the placeholder image layer. Resize it so its just bigger than
the placeholder image.
2) Heres a handy trick Select the placeholder image layer and go
Layer>Mask>New Mask. This will create a mask of the right size. Toggle
down the layer to reveal Mask 1, select it, copy it and paste it to your
footage layer.
3) Zoom in and use your arrow keys to move the mask so its positioned
exactly under the placeholder image (you can then want to move your
footage around inside the mask to get the ideal positioning).
4) Delete or disable the placeholder image layer
Tip: If you are adding video to left-hand pages (those with an even
number) you have to flip the content horizontally so it displays correctly
in the Main Comp. This is easy, simply change its Scale>Width to -100%.
5) If you want smaller video(s) on a page you can simply scale it to the
size you want or change the size/position of the mask(s)
Tip: Either use an image as your page background or draw a new shape
to the right dimensions and positioning and change the fill colour to
whatever you like.
Back in the Main Comp timeline, toggle down some adjacent page layers
to understand how the page turning animations work. You can adjust the
timing and speed of each turn to sync with your soundtrack.

Various parameters are animated to achieve each page turn so

experiment until you get the type of turn you want. Notice also that the
z-depth of each 3D page layer is animated to ensure a realistic effect.
Thats it. Its as simple as thatunless you want to change other things
Open the Elements Folder in the Project Panel

C) Background
This pre-comp contains the background-tile.png, which is in the Assets
Folder that came with the main file). This layer has the CC RepeTile effect
applied to enlarge it to allow for the left to right camera pan.
It also contains a Colour Correction layer so you can adjust parameters
including Hue/Saturation, Ramp and Levels to easily achieve whatever
colour you want.

D) Sparkles
These are the particles that appear overlaid during the sequence. To
customize the effect, open the Sparkles pre-comp inside the Elements
Folder.
1) Toggle down the layer to reveal the Effects>Particle World and adjust
parameters such as Physics>Velocity and Particle>Color. You can also
adjust the particle type, currently Faded Sphere.
2) In the Main Comp timeline notice blending mode Add is applied (you
can change this) and opacity is animated to fade the particles on and off.

E) Flourish
This pre-comp contains the animated flourish that we follow in at the
beginning and follow out at the end of the sequence (it also appears
twice during the sequence). It is made up of about 20 animated vector
layers (contained in the Elements>Flourish Layers Folder and supplied as
a single layer .ai in the Assets folder that came with the main file).

You probably dont need to edit it as such (you can if you want) but you
can easily change the colour of all elements via a single Colour Correction
layer with Tint applied.
Tip: The flourish animation is currently about 15s in duration. If you want
to adjust the speed you could, layer by layer, move keyframes or you
could pre-render this comp and adjust the timing via time-remapping /
time stretch. Pre-rendering should also speed up final render and ram
previews while you work.
Note in the Main Comp timeline that the flourish layers have blending
mode>overlay applied. You can change this to anything you like.
Once youve done these few steps, youre effectively ready to render!

F) Camera Controller and Camera 1

The Camera Controller layer governs the camera pan at the beginning
and at the end of the sequence (Camera 1). Toggle down the Camera
Controller layer and youll see all the various keyframes controlling the
movement.

G) Light 1
This layer contains a point light which is set to cast shadows from all the
pages onto the background. You can adjust such parameters as light
intensity and shadow strength.
Tip: Lights and shadows are very CPU intensive so I recommend disabling
this layer while you work.
Thats it! Have fun!

I really hope you enjoy this project and will rate it, if you already
haven't :)
