Many types of coupler also have common names. The most common ones
are IEC connector for the common C13 and C14, the figure of 8 connector for C7
and C8, and cloverleaf connector or Mickey Mouse connector for the
C5/C6. Kettle plug is a colloquial term used for the high-temperature C16
appliance inlet (and sometimes, wrongly, for the mating C15 female connector).
Kettle plug is sometimes, incorrectly, used to refer to regular temperature C13
and C14 connectors.
Detachable appliance couplers are used in office equipment, measuring
instruments, IT environments and medical devices, among many types of
equipment for worldwide distribution. Each appliance's power system must be
adapted to the different plugs used in different regions. An appliance with a
permanently attached plug for use in one country cannot be readily sold in
another which uses an incompatible wall socket; this requires keeping track of
variations throughout the product's life cycle from assembly and testing to
shipping and repairs.
The IEC 320 C13/C14 connectors are based on standards created by the
International Electrotechnical Commission, an international standards body. The
"320" refers to the number of the specification that describes power connectors.
The official text of the standard is actually numbered 60320, but common
vernacular usage shortens it to 320.
The C13 line socket is very common in the PC and A/V industry. The mating
connector for the C13 socket is the C14 plug, which is often mounted into a
recessed panel or chassis on computer power supplies or power transformers.
Block adapter C14 male plugs to various female connectors. The moulded block
minimizes the obtrusiveness of the adapter. The C14 operates at 250 Volts and
assures that your device operates at 250 volts or damage will occur!
Cord adapter C14 male plugs to various 125 Volt female connectors. The one
foot Pigtail offers flexibility in installation and assures power source provision of
125 volts otherwise it will damage the equipment.
Block adapter C14 male plugs to Angled C13 female connector. The moulded
block minimizes the obtrusiveness of the adapter. The C14 operates at 250
Volts. It assures that the device operates at 250 volts. The angle allows for
routing cable in spaces tight to the equipment chassis or PDU.
Block adapter C14 male plugs Splitter with 15 Amp rating. This Y-adapter is ideal
for devices with multiple power supplies or allows 2 devices to share 1
receptacle. Connection commonly used between a PDU and Computer in a data
rack or cabinet. It assures your device operates at 250 volts to save it from
damage.
