The Script
Introduction:
Narrator in a Balagtasan voice:
Pagmamahal..

Scene #1: The Final Court Trial

[ Curtains will open where Josephine Bracken will be seen with one of Rizal's sister taking their seats.. while some
spanish women gossip about her ]
( That's her, Josephine Bracken, the mistress of
Rizal.. )
[ The seven members of the military court arrive and the trial was opened by Judge Advocate Dominguez..]
Judge Advocate Dominguez: Dr. Jose Rizal Mercado, que le debe todo lo que es Espaa (who owes all that he is to
Spain), since it was her universities that he studied medicine is one of the principal, if not principal figure in the uprising..
El filibusterismo, (through the publication of his works Noli Me Tangere, annotations to the history of the Philippines by
Morga and El Filibusterismo).. an through an endless series of pamphlets manifesto of all sorts attacking religion, the
friars and the Spanish government.. impresses upon the people of the Philippines the idea of expelling the religious orders
to secure the independence of the colony..
Spanish Man 1: Con la revolucin! Viva Espaa! ( Down with the revolution! Long live Spain! )
Spanish audience:( Shouting..) Viva Espaa! ( Shouting..) Viva Espaa!
Attorney Alcocer: This officer should not hesitate to qualify Rizal as the alma de la rebelin (soul of the rebellion). He
pretends to be the salvador de los filipinos (savior of the Filipinos). He is considered to be a superhuman being-exempted to any restrain that might obstruct his providential mission. Don Jose Rizal is the prime mover of the rebellion
and must suffer the penalty imposed by the penal code. As a consequence, the crime of rebellion must be punished with
death!
Spanish Man 2: (screaming..) Execute him!
Spanish audience: ( They noisily applauded and scream.. ) Lo ejecutaran! (Execute him!) Long live Spain!

(For many years now the
name Rizal has had overtones of rebel cries.) He is regarded as the Symbol of the revolutionary sentiment. On what
grounds? Has Rizal made any public act or statement of separatism? has ever proclaimed over Spain,.. our mother land,..
that he.. abhors his dominion over her territories and that he.. intends to wage war and destroy her?.. No!.. Although Rizal
had written two novels, Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, where no respect was given to Spain nor to the religious
orders.. And this books along with other writings which criticized the colonial regime and with the campaign to secure his
country certain rights which serve as a stepping stones to autonomy and eventually to independence.. But it does not
follow that these theories are the determining cause of uprising. The judges cannot be vindicated, the judges can only be
just..
Judge: Does the accused wish to add anything in his defense?
Rizal: En cuanto a la rebelin, desde 6 de Julio 1892, (Concerning the rebellion, since July 6, 1892) I have not engaged
in politics until June 1 of this year, when Dr. Valenzuela came to notify me about the uprising, thus proving that I have no
prior contact with them. For if I was in touch, I would have already known about such a grave matter as an uprising.
Another negative proof is that they do not hold any single letter from me. They exploited my name most cruelly and that
the very last moment scheme to take me surprise. Why did they not contact me earlier? possibly.. because they knew that
I. although less than contented was resign about my exile and I refuse to consider many various schemes to escape
Dapitan..

Mi ltimo adis a mi Bienamado Filipinas..
Rizals voice-over:
Y fuera ms brillante ms fresca, ms florida,

Otros te dan sus vidas sin dudas, sin pesar;
El sitio nada importa, ciprs, laurel lirio,
Cadalso campo abierto, combate cruel martirio,

Y al fin anuncia el da trs lbrego capuz;

Rizals voice-over:
