LI SHUYE

1. Dr. Gabriella is a nutritionist and she is working in Britain. Read the

first paragraph and discuss with your partner what Dr. Gabriella is
talking about.
Almost every day, we discuss the topic of health, especially for
kids. But what is health? Health means eating well, getting enough
exercise, and having a healthy weight. Here I introduce some
useful rules and hope they can help you stay healthy.
1.
. We all know that
eating fruits and vegetables can
help us stay healthy, but many
of us only eat our favorite foods.
We should eat different kinds of
food, especially fruits and
vegetables, because we can get
the nutrition needed for our
3.
. When you are
eating, notice how your body
feels. You should stop eating
when your stomach feels
comfortably full. Eating too
much will make you feel
uncomfortable and want to
throw up. If you do it too often,
it can make you unhealthy and
fat.

2.
. Everyone knows that
water is important. Besides that,
kids need plenty of calcium to grow
strong bones. Milk is rich in calcium.
Every day, you should drink at least
three cups of milk when you are 9
years old or older. You should also
try to have less sugary drinks, like
coco-cola. Sugar just adds calories,
not important nutrition.
4.
which is the
amount of time you spend on
watching TV, movies, and
playing computer games. You
should spend less time on these
sitting-down activities and more
time on outside sports. Try to
spend no more than 2 hours a
day on it.

5.
. A European study of
almost 400,000 adults says that
eating meat is linked with weight
gain, even in people taking in the
same number of calories. Some
meat, such as sausages and ham,
are high-protein. Researches show
that high-protein diets may not help
to keep slim in the long run and the
peoples health relates to how much
meat they eat.

2. Read the five rules suggested by Dr. Gabriella. Label the pictures with A-E based

LI SHUYE

on the descriptions below.

A.

Listen to your body.

B.

Limit screen time and go out.

C.

Eat a variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

D.

Eating less meat can keep a healthy weight.

E.

Drink water and milk most often.

Bruce , Health & Fitness Expert

Dear Jillian,
Here are some solutions that may solve your problem.
1. You should move more. You should walk or cycle instead
of taking bus to school. If you want to take a bus, why not
get off one stop early and walk a bit longer. During recess
time, you should walk within the school area.
2. You should have a schedule for exercise. Consider
participating evening classes like yoga, martial or dancing
class. Alternatively, you can ask your parents to buy
exercise equipment, for example, rowing machine or and
exercise bike so you can read your books while exercising.
Hopes this helps. Most importantly, you should exercise
regularly.

HISTORY ABOUT ROCK CLIMBING

Historically, many cultures believed that
mountain is a sacred place.
Early European climbers used rock climbing
techniques as a skill to reach the top of the
mountain.
By the 19th century, rock climbing has
developed into a hobby.
Began in the last quarter of the 19th century
in three areas: Dresden, Germany, the Lake
District of England and the Dolomites in Italy

Bruce , Health & Fitness Expert

1.Dear
(Answers
Jillian, are underlined and highlighted in yellow)
Here are some solutions that may solve your problem.
1. You should move more. You should walk or cycle instead of taking bus
to school. If you want to take a bus, why not get off one stop early and walk
a bit longer. During recess time, you should walk within the school area.
2. You should spare 1 hour for exercise. Consider joining evening classes
like yoga, martial or dancing class. Alternatively, you can ask your parents
to buy exercise equipment, for example, rowing machine or and exercise
bike so you can read your books while exercising.
Hopes this helps. Most importantly, you should exercise regularly. Good
luck!

2. Alternatives phrases when giving advises (page 11)

(Any answer is accepted as long as student use the three alternatives listed below)
i- Instead of. you could..
ii- Alternatively, you could
iii- Most importantly, you should .
Writing skills: Giving examples (page 12)

Suggested problems:

Always feel tired
Not in shape
Headache
(highlight on the use of modal verb should and also the three alternatives; Instead
of. you could.., alternatively, you could ,most importantly,
you should .)

Suggested solutions:

You should do physical activities such as swimming, jogging, running, playing

badminton
You should exercise at least 3 times a week
Instead of taking the bus, you could walk by foot

Writing (page 13)

(If teacher runs out of time, students can do this activity as homework. If
time permits, choose at least one group to present.)
Problems: (any problems associated with health issues)
Suggested problems:
I am a student. This year I will be sitting for a major exam. At the same time, I will also
be sitting for my Grade 8 piano examination. As a result, I tend to eat more chocolates
and gained 5 lbs in one month. Help me.
Solutions: Any relevant solution (as long as student give advice on healthy
diet and focus on physical activites)
Suggested solutions:
You should avoid eating sugary food like chocolate and carbonated drinks because
these types of food are high sugar. Additionally, you should also consider doing
physical activities like jogging in the evening.

Unit 4: Health
Section 4: Healthy Sleep (page 14-18)
(Instruction: Teacher asks each group to brainstorm one of these topics)

T asks Ss in each group to brainstorm one of the following words:

balanced diet, hospital, fitness and sleep, telling them to write down whatever
comes to their minds when they hear these words. The winner is the group who
comes up with largest words.

Then together with whole class and T brainstorm the word sleep as it is
new for the class, T writes students responses on the board.

Reading (page 15)

(Instruction: each student in the group reads particular e-mail then in turn
tells what it is about).
-

What can you see, which kind of genre?

- Who is the sender in each email and to whom it was sent to?

(Suggested organization) T changes the organization of students sittings, divide

them in groups of 4.

Does anyone here know the word psychologist before?

T assigns each student to read one email. E.g number1 in all groups reads
email
Each student should tell the group main ideas of that email.

Ask a student for each email to present the problem to whole class
- Try to look for someone from the student who may have the same
problem (let him/her to tell how he/she feel about? And what ways he/she
are trying to follow to stop the problem.
