2001-02 G20; WHISTLE NOISE FROM DRIVER DOOR MIRROR

APPLIED VEHICLE: 2001-02 G20 (P11)
SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied vehicle exhibits a whistle noise from the driver door mirror under the following conditions:

Speeds at or above 40 MPH

Window partially open

The cause may be a gap between the mirror assembly and the mirror front cover (see Figure 1). Refer to the
Service Procedure to resolve this incident, should it occur.
NOTE: This is the ONLY authorized repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Infiniti for the repair
of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Eliminate the gap between the mirror assembly and the mirror front cover using the procedure below:
1. Remove the mirror front cover (the front painted piece) as follows:
A. Gently push the right side of the glass mirror to expose two clips that secure the mirror front cover (see
Figure 2).

B. Using a screwdriver, carefully release the two clips and pull out on the mirror front cover to remove it
(see Figure 3).

2. Apply a piece of foam tape to the top, right clip of the mirror front cover as follows:
A. Obtain a piece of foam tape PN 76884-71L02 from the Squeak & Rattle Repair Kit (PN J-43980).
B. Trim the foam tape to:

6.4 mm wide (0.25 inches wide)

12.7 mm long (0.50 inches long)

C. Apply the foam tape to the top, right clip of the mirror front cover (see Figure 4).

3. Re-install the mirror front cover as follows:
A. First, insert the two inboard clips (of the mirror front cover) into the mirror assembly (see Figure 4).
B. Then, snap the remaining front cover onto the mirror assembly.
4. Make sure there is no gap between the mirror front cover and the mirror assembly.
5. Road test the vehicle under the conditions listed in the Service Information section above, to confirm the
whistle noise is gone.
