ON-ROAD OPERATING CONDITIONS


The RAPTOR is approved for on-road operation at 40 km/h as an agricultural
tractor.
The speed and on-road operating conditions are thus subject to the same traffic
regulations as agricultural tractors depending on the width of the vehicle. The speed of
40 km/h is applicable as long as the equipment does not exceed a width of 3.00 m.

RINSING THE SPRAYER BEFORE FIRST USE


Rinse the sprayer completely with clean water, before using phytosanitary products
(weed killers, insecticide or other product) in your sprayer for the first time.
-

Remove the nozzles if they are fitted.


Undo the end plugs on the pipes.
Fill 1/5th of the volume of the tank with water.
Spray (Refer to the SPRAYING chapter, page 22).
Remove and clean the filters.
Retighten the pipe end plugs.
Fit the nozzles.

NOTE:

- Any foreign particles which may be in the spraying circuit will thus be eliminated and there will be
no risk of them blocking the holes in the nozzles.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE VALVES


The main functions are listed on the Berlogic (list (1), figure 1).
To obtain the desired position, indexes (2), (3) and (4) must be placed opposite the arrows corresponding to
the function number in the list (1).
To select index (2):
- Turn the index using the two levers.
To select index (3):
- Press the two levers then turn.
To select index (4):
- Pull the two levers then turn.
Diagram (5) represents the hopper.

FILLING / INCORPORATION HOPPER


FILLING THE TANK
. Via the tank opening (gravity):
- Open the cover on the top of the tank.
. By external suction device:
- Close the drain opening using the value located
underneath the tank (figure 2).
- Fill the centrifugal pump priming tank with water.
To do this, draw the hexagon socket head screw
(V) located on the upper part of the pump body
(figure 3).

INCORPORATION HOPPER
- This permits introduction, in alternation with water
filling of the sprayer, of powders or liquid treatment
products.
- This device ensures perfect product homogeneity in
the water, and makes spraying operations easier.

Filling without incorporation hopper using:


- Connect the fill pipe to the blue quick coupling (B)
(figure 4).
- Place the Berlogic indexes to position 1 .
- Put the fill pipe into the liquid to be suck.
- Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring
engine speed up to at least 1,200 rpm.
- When the filling operation is finished, disconnect
the fill pipe and replace the plug on the blue quick
coupling (B).

2 - Water in the rinsing tank used:


put the indexes on Berlogic function 4 .
3 - Externally drawn water used:
put the indexes on Berlogic function 3 .
In the 3 cases:

OPERATION OF THE HOPPER


- Fill the tank partly (see filling operation above).
- Open the left-hand cover (1) (figure 4).
- Actuate switch (5) to lower the hopper. Open the
cover (2) (figure 4).
- Fill the hopper with phytosanitary products.

- Open the fill valve (4) to position o (figure 4) which


actuates the rinsing boom (1) (figure 5).

RINSING THE CANS

- Engage the switch which allows the pump to
engage.
- Bring the engine speed up to at least 1,200 rpm.
- To rapidly empty the hopper:
replace the cover,
open the valve (E) to position 3 (figure 4).
- The product is draw up into and incorporated in the
sprayer tank.

RINSING THE HOPPER

put the indexes on Berlogic function 2 .


2 - Water in the rinsing tank used:
put the indexes on Berlogic function 4 .
3 - Externally drawn water used:
put the indexes on Berlogic function 3 .
In the 3 cases:
- Open the fill valve (4) to position o (figure 4).
- Position the product can on part (2) (figure 5).
- Press handle (3) (figure 4), to actuate the cleaning
nozzle (3) (figure 5).
- After the incorporation operation:
close the fill valve (4) to position f (figure 4),
finish the filling of the tank,
When the filling is completed, disconnect the pipe
and replace the plug on the blue quick coupling (B)
(figure 4).

3 possibilities:

put the indexes on Berlogic function 2 .

OPERATION

Put the indexes on Berlogic function 5 (figure 7).

- Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine


speed up to at least 1,200 rpm.

NOTE:

PREPARATION OF THE CONTROL BOX
(figure 6)
- With the pump off:
power up the control box by raising switch (1),
lamp (a) lights,
- Program the D.P.Tronic control box (see manual
No. 82.465).

PARTIAL STOP
- Place the switch(es) (2) corresponding to the sections
that you which to cut, to the left of the control
box (4).
COMPLETE STOP
- Press the push-button (3) on handle (P).

Your equipment is now ready to work.

TRANSFERRING
TRANSFER OF LIQUID FROM THE TANK TO ANOTHER TANK
Put the indexes on Berlogic function 8 (figure 7).
- To transfer the liquid contained into the tank to another one, proceed as follows:
Connect the fill hose to the red quick coupling (R) (figure 4) and put the other end of the hose in the tank to
recover the liquid from the tank.
Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine speed up to at least 1,200 rpm.

Rinsing is indispensable when changing from a product that may be detrimental to

PHASE 1 - RINSING OF THE MAIN TANK, HOPPER AND MIXING SYSTEMS WITH
THE TANK FULL OF WATER
(Use half of the rinsing tank; the other half will be used to rinse the spray system)
OPERATIONS PERFORMED IN THE FIELD
Stop the pump drive.
- Rinsing the main tank:
Put the indexes on Berlogic function 6 (figure 8).
- Power up the control box, item (1) (figure 6).
- Close the spray system. To do this, press
pushbutton (3) on the handle (P) (figure 6).
- Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring
engine speed to 1,200 rpm.
- Rinsing the incorporation hopper circuit:
- Place the index (2) (figure 8) on Berlogic
function 4 .
- Rinsing the mixing circuit:
- Place the index (1) (figure 8) to position + to
begin mixing.
- Place the indexes on function 5 (spraying).
- Open the spraying (figure 6): place the switch(es)
(2) on the right of the box (4), the indicator lights
(b) come on, then press the pushbutton (3) on the
handle (P). Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and
bring engine speed up to at least 1,200 rpm.
- After rinsing the circuits, crops can be sprayed
with the liquid remaining in the bottom of the tank.

PHASE 2

This procedure is particularly recommended and


is considered good operating practice.

- RINSING THE SPRAYING CIRCUITS AND BOOM WITH THE RINSING TANK
(With the rest of the water in the rinsing tank)

OPERATIONS PERFORMED IN THE FIELD


Stop the pump drive.
Put the indexes on Berlogic function 7 (figure 8).
- Power up the control box, item (1) (figure 6).
Open the spraying (figure 6): place the switch(es)
(2) on the right of the box (4), the indicator lights
(b) come on, then press the pushbutton (3) on
the handle (P).
- Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine
speed to 1,200 rpm.
- Spray the diluted product on the crops.
NOTE:

This operation is performed without water


returning to the main tank.

This operation is not enough when changing


chemical products.

PHASE 3 - RINSING ALL SYSTEMS WITH THE MAIN TANK


IN A RECOVERY AREA AT THE FARM
- Put 300 liters of clear water with a cleaning product (All Clear type) in the main tank (see filling, page 20).
- To mix the mixture, put the indexes on Berlogic function 5 , set the switches (2) on the left of the box (4)
(sections closed) (figure 6, page 23).
Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine speed to 1,200 rpm.
Place the index (1) (figure 8, page 24) to position + to begin mixing.
To rinse the hopper, put the indexes on Berlogic function 2 .
Open the fill valve (4) to position o (figure 4, page 21) to rinse then drain the hopper.
Place the switches (2) on the right of the box (4) (sections open) (figure 6, page 23) to totally drain the
tank.
Stop the pump drive.

PHASE 4 - FINAL RINSING OF THE SPRAYER


IN A RECOVERY AREA AT THE FARM
- Fill the rinsing tank with the clear water.
- Open the main tank's drain valve (figure 2, page 21).
With the pump off.
- Rinsing the main tank using the rinsing tank:

Put the indexes on Berlogic function 6 (figure 8, page 24).


Power up the control box, item (1) (figure 6, page 23).
Close the spray system. To do this, press pushbutton (3) on the handle (P) (figure 6, page 23).
Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine speed to 1,200 rpm.

- Rinsing the incorporation hopper circuit:


Place the index (2) (figure 8) on Berlogic function 4 .
- Rinsing the mixing circuit:
Place the index (1) (figure 8) to position + .
Stop the pump drive.
- Rinsing the booms:
Put the indexes on Berlogic function 7 (figure 8).
Open the spraying (figure 6): place the switch(es) (2) on the right of the box (4), the indicator lights (b) come
on, then press the pushbutton (3) on the handle (P).
Engage the pump's hydraulic drive and bring engine speed to 1,200 rpm.
Spray the residues on the recovery area.
REPEAT THE OPERATION IF RESIDUE REMAINS.
NOTE:
- When finished spraying or between 2 successive applications of different products, it is recommended that
the outside of the sprayer be cleaned (see procedure, page 32).

MIXING OPERATION
- The mixing boom is used to obtain a homogenous product mixture in the tank, both before and during spraying
operations. Mixing can be varied by means of function "5 - SPRAYING", to accomplish this:
with DUALMATIC, vary the position of the index (1) (figure 8) between + and - ,
with DUALELEC, the agitation percentage can be varied on the screen, or use the automatic mixing modulation
if your unit is equipped with an electric gauge. In this case, agitation variation, based on the liquid level in the
tank, allows the mixing intensity to be reduced to the point where it stops entirely. Shut-down corresponds
to the low level of liquid in the tank (this level is factory set).

DRAINING THE TANK


- The drain valve is located underneath the sprayer's tank (figure 9).
- Turn the valve (1) according to the desired drainage rate.

TAPE GAUGE
- A tape gauge (1) (figure 10), highly visible from inside the self-propelled cab, is located on top of the main
tank.

ELECTRIC GAUGE (OPTIONAL)


- Your sprayer can also be fitted with an electric gauge (NIVELEC) (figure 11). It consists:
of a gauge mechanism, item (1), located on top of the tank,
of a electric gauge control unit, item (2). (For information on control unit operation, see manual No. 82.425),
of a power cable (12 Vdc), item (3).

HANDWASH TANK
- Hygiene and comfort: a 45-litre fresh water tank (1) (figure 13) built into the sprayer's covers and independent
from the rinsing tank, allows you to wash your hands or any other part of your body (face, eyes,...) that may
have come in contact with the product.
- The tap (2) is easily accessible in the compartment.
- Washing, by opening the tap (2) more or less according to the required flow rate.
- It is ESSENTIAL for the handwash tank to be filled with clean water, through the lid (3), without any
pressure.

RINSING TANK
- The rinsing tank (1) (figure 12) is located in front of the main tank.
- It is ESSENTIAL for the rinsing tank to be filled with clean water, through the lid (3), without any pressure.
- Its fill level is indicated by a clear gauge (2) which is visible from the self-propelled cab.

RINSING THE MAIN TANK


- The rinsing balls (1) (figure 14) installed inside the tank, on either side of the gauge tube, ensure this function
(refer to the various rinsing phases, page 24).

HEIGHT AND TILT INDEXES


- The tilt (1) and height (2) indexes are visible from inside the self-propelled cab (figure 15).

LADDER
FROM THE CAB (figure 16)
- 2 actions required:
begin by setting the parking brake by turning the switch (1),
then actuate switch (2), located below the handwheel, to lower the ladder.

ON THE GROUND (figure 17)


- To lower it:
Pull the cord (1) and grab the ladder as it descends.
- To raise it:
Manually tip the ladder until it locks.

HEIGHT OF THE BOOM


- A working height between 50 cm and 60 cm above the surface treated is recommended. This height is defined
by the nozzle spray angle and spacing.
- There is a risk of drift with greater heights.

EXTERNAL WASHING DEVICE (OPTIONAL)


- This option must only be used for cleaning the tank (Berlogic function 6 ) or rinsing the boom (Berlogic
function 7 ) (see figure 8, page 24).
Unhook the brush (1) (figure 18).
Connect it to the quick coupling (2) on the hose.
(see figure 8, page 24) and then beginning cleaning the sprayer.
Put the Berlogic on function
When done cleaning, correctly hook the brush back into place after use.

EXTERNAL WASHING PROCEDURE


- It is important to regularly rinse the outside of the self-propelled unit. This cleaning operation should particularly
be repeated during the day between applications of different products.

PROCEDURE
- A detergent should preferably be used to facilitate cleaning: All Clear (5 l), BERTHOUD reference 788.796 or
All Clear Extra NF (5 l) BERTHOUD reference 788.792.
- Refer to the detergent manufacturer's instructions regarding exposure time and dilution. To do this, consult
the instructions on the product.
- Generally speaking, spray the product on the spray using a hand sprayer, scrub as required then rinse with
clean water.

PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR


THE SERVICING OF YOUR SPRAYER
- By cleaning your sprayer regularly during and at the end of treatment seasons:
you will avoid spraying chemical residues on the crops,
you will ensure a good distribution of the product, while eliminating total or partial blockage of the nozzles,
you will increase your sprayer's life.

Conduct the sprayer's maintenance operations with the engine off, contact
and hydraulic drive switched off.

CHECKS BEFORE SPRAY SEASON


Wheels and tyres:
- Check tyre pressure:
see self-propelled sprayer manual.
- Check the tightness of the wheel bolts (refer to the self-propelled's manual for the proper tightening torque).
Filter:
- Make sure that the delivery filter is clean and in good condition.
Pipes:
- Look for any leaks, check for kinks in the pipes.
Seals and fittings:
- Check to ensure that nuts and connectors are tightened, change the seals if necessary.
Levels:
- Check the pump's oil level and other elements concerned.
Pump:
- Check to ensure that all connectors are tight.
Nozzles:
- To change the nozzles once per year or when their flow rate is 10 to 15 % greater than their initial flow rate.
To do this, use the FLOW TEST - BERTHOUD reference 765.241, or the FLOW RATE GAUGE - BERTHOUD
reference 778.887.
Tank:
- Check that there is no foreign matters inside the tank.

FOAMING IN THE TANK


- If this occurs, reduce the engine speed or add an anti-foaming additive to the contents of the tank when
filling.

Do not add fuel oil to the spraying mixture as an anti-foaming agent.

LAST FILLING OPERATION


- When filling the tank for the last time, add only the amount of water and chemical necessary to spray the
remaining area.

MAINTENANCE AFTER OPERATION


- Fully rinse the sprayer internally (including tanks, booms and nozzles) in accordance with the procedures
given on pages 24 to 26.
- Wash the outside of the sprayer as explained on page 32.
- Check the cleanliness of the nozzles and filter (see page 36).
- Place into storage.

WINTER STORAGE
-

The sprayer should be wintered in a clean condition (see above).


Rinse the circuit completely (with a cleaning product).
Drain the tank.
Rinse with clear water.
Completely drain the liquid circuit, making sure that the pump is not operated too long without water (2 minutes
maximum).
Protect against the frost, using sufficient antifreeze into the tank (glycol or coolant).
Start the pump slowly.
Operate all the valves so as to protect the pump, valves, control valve, filters and pipes.
Open the spray system to supply the boom with antifreeze. When the antifreeze reaches the nozzles, stop
spraying and stop the pump's hydraulic drive.
Grease all mechanical parts that can be rust.
Deoxidize the contacts on the power plugs (BERTHOUD reference 765.065 the KF F2 aerosol).
Clean the outside of the machine. Paint the mechanical parts exposed (BERTHOUD reference 769.077 for
the blue paint aerosol or 778.890 for the green paint aerosol).
Garage the machine out of the sunlight and protected against inclement weather and on flat, load-bearing
ground.

NOZZLES OR FILTERS DIRTY


- Clean and rinse dirty filters or nozzles using a brush and water.
To do this, use the brush/wrench BERTHOUD reference 779.354.

Never blow into a nozzle.

DELIVERY FILTER
- The delivery filter (1) (figure 19) is located between the
pump and the distribution, at the control station.
- It provides additional filtration.
- To clean the filter cartridge, you must put the indexes
on Berlogic function 9 (see page 24).

- To remove the filter cartridge, unscrew the filter body


(2) (figure 19) using a 27 mm wrench (wrench not
supplied with the machine).

The filter cartridge needs to be cleaned after


each application. Grease the seals.

The original factory-installed filter cartridge mesh is 4/10 (8/10 mesh is available separately
for liquid fertilizer).

PROTECTION AGAINST OXIDISING AGENTS


- Before treatment using liquid fertilisers it is advisable to protect the equipment and boom with diesel oil in
order to prevent rusting or oxidation of paint work.
- After service, the equipment can be cleaned down with a high-pressure jet to remove all traces of dust and
diesel oil.

SERVICING THE BOOM


- After each use, rinse the pipework thoroughly, operating the machine for several minutes with clear water.
- Drain the pipework, particularly if there is a risk of frost.
- After cleaning the boom with a high-pressure jet, grease the ram shafts to prevent all risk of corrosion.
- Keep the hinges on the arms and the uprights on the fixed frame greased.
- Touch up the paintwork as necessary.

PUMP PROTECTION
OMEGA PUMP
To ensure that the pump is completely drained in freezing conditions, remove the plugs ((1) drainage, (2) vent)
and allow the water or slurry to drain for at least 15 minutes. Replace the plug (1) and fill the pump with antifreeze
via the opening (2). Replace the plug (2).
NOTE: This operation can be done at the same time as the winter storage operations (see page 35).
