UL Listed Prefabricated Copper Mesh

General Application
Prefabricated wire mesh is a simple cost effective
method of enhancing ground systems. Applications
include improving the ground plane at
telecommunications and radio transmitting/receiving
facilities and reducing step and touch potentials at
power plants and substations. Mesh is also used where
ground rods are impossible to drive or are ineffective
because of soil conditions. Wire mesh is manufactured
from solid copper or copper clad steel wire, ranging
from #10 AWG to #4 AWG. Normal spacing between
conductors are 2", 4", 6", 8", 12", 24" and 48". All
joints are silver brazed assuring excellent electrical
continuity, corrosion resistance and superior strength.

Standard End Configurations

Harger prefabricated wire mesh can be supplied with no overhang,
overlapping ends or butt splice ends.
No Overhang

The overlapping end configuration is designed to allow for side by side

connections of adjoining mats. This type of connection provides the easiest
method of joining two mesh sections. Adding 2" to one half the conductor
spacing provides the overlapping ends. For example, if the mesh size is 6"
square, the overlapping end length is 5".
Overlapping ends

The butt splice end spacing is equal to half the conductor spacing. For
example, if the mesh is 4" square the butt splice end length is 2". The butt
splice end provides a more conservative use of conductor.

Installation of Wire Mesh

1. Unroll Mesh. Select an area to receive mesh. No digging,
trenching or specialty equipment required the mesh is simply
unrolled over the ground or floor in the area chosen.
2. Interconnect Mesh Sections. Sections of the mesh are
interconnected using ULTRAWELD exothermic connections.
Type PS welds are typically used. If no overhang then weld
parallel wires of adjacent wire mesh rolls.

Mesh with overhang for Overlapping Ends are also welded using Type PS welds.

Mesh with overhang for Butt Splice Ends is welded using Type BS welds.

3. Additional Connections. Connect additional ground grids and ground

rods as required with appropriate ULTRAWELD exothermic connections.
4. Clean-Up. Cut and splice wire mesh, as needed, to avoid contact with
objects such as guy anchors.
5. Finish Job. For exterior applications, cover mesh with layer of clean clay
loam soil, ULTRAFILL earth enhancement material, or crushed stone.
For interior applications, the mesh can be embedded in concrete or left
on the surface of the floor.
