Seo Ju-hyun, more known as Seohyun sometimes wonders whether

being a maknae has more advantages than disadvantages. Because
really, while all her unnies are out partying and clubbing with her SuJu
and Shinee hyungs, she's left alone trying to figure out how to exactly
waste another day of her few years as a minor. Although she faithfully
tries to take advantage of her sworn sisters’ kindness, more often than
not, being the youngest means trying to understand all her unnies' "old
age issues". A tune suddenly played out in her ear as she silently
fumes out her frustrations-- forcing her to try it out on the piano in
front of her.

"Good tune you have there. New song?"

Cho Kyuhyun was supposed to be somewhere in S.M. Concert Hall

Studio belting it out with Ryeowook and Yesung while most of his dorm
mates are out clubbing (minus all the drinking for some of course), but
he chose to do a rain check tonight-- it's not as if his Yesung-hyung
wouldn't take advantage of that opportunity to try out different
versions of the song. And he did a rain check for one main reason--
because he wanted to, and well, he can. He'd owe Ryeowook though
for leaving the eternal maknae with their hyung, patiently saying 'that
was good, hyung'. But being the real maknae that he was (let’s not
count dumpling Henry here for a minute), he knew that Ryeowook's
anger wouldn't even last the night. And he smiled at the idea of being
the great evil maknae, leaving Seohyun blushing at the sight of that
smile she thought intended for her.

"Oppa, it's just a random tune that played in my ear. I didn't even think
it'd be a song."

It still feels weird calling Kyuhyun her ‘oppa’, but she guessed it
wouldn’t hurt calling him that once in a while. She felt good calling
him that, and the other didn’t really showed any signs that he mind
being called that. She saw the other shrug then beam a smile she had
memorized since her trainee days as she randomly fumbles with the
keys on the piano. He took a seat on the nearby couch on her left,
signaling her to go on and keep playing. She wasn't entirely sure what
she was playing but by the looks of it, Cho Kyuhyun-- Super Junior
maknae-extraordinaire, is exquisitely enjoying it. She hides a smile as
she presses another key.

Jung Jinwoon smiled as he watched Seohyun scrunch up her face as a

key didn’t fit exactly right with the melody she’s currently playing. He
balled his hand in his jacket pocket into a fist as he resisted that itch to
wave at her and distract her from what she’s doing best—making
music. And he seriously could’ve stayed like that forever, watching her
while ridiculously smiling all too wide that he’d bet their next album
sales that all his hyungs would tease him about his ‘all-too-giddy-
smile’. He loved days like these, when his hyungs would tell him to get
lost and have fun while the rest of them clean up the dorm. Being a
maknae has its advantages, really. But not when his peaceful reverie
of watching Seohyun was abruptly disrupted by a rowdy hyung of his
running into the room, punching his shoulder on the way.

“Yah yah Juhyun! How are you? Hyung! Wake up, I’m hungry! Aren’t
you hungry? I haven’t had dinner yet because no one in the dorm
would want to cook for me.”

Hwang Chansung fumbled with the keys previously being fumbled by

Seohyun who now stares at him like he’s some green monster eating a
blob of chocolate. He tried his best to behave today, at least that’s
what Junho made him promise before they had their breakfast. But it’s
not like he could not behave, he could—really—but when all your
hyungs ran out on you before making you dinner to hang out with your
nunas and hyungs from the other agency, you tend to get quite
irritable. And an irritable 2PM maknae Hwang Chansung is a very
hungry maknae.

“You’re supposed to be with Yesung-hyung and Ryeowook-hyung

recording, right? What’re you doing here, hyung?”

Kyuhyun saw Jinwoon enter the room while asking him the question,
and it’s not like he didn’t know the other was there staring endlessly at
Seohyun. He’s just not the type to blab things out the way his Teuk-
Umma and Kangin-Appa does. He smiled at the youngest boy in the
room and explained how he didn’t want to actually “work” tonight and
prefer hanging out. He then saw Chansung take exactly two strides to
get to his side.

“Hyung. We're hanging out right? Cool. I’m hungry.”

Jinwoon watched as Kyuhyun snickered at Chansung, but eventually
giving in by bringing out his phone. He was slowly trying to make his
way towards the piano when he decided to just stay on the couch
across the bickering boys after Seohyun give him a smile. God, he
hated being such a pile of goo for that smile.

“Jjajangmyun alright?”

Seohyun wanted to laugh louder as Chansung hugged Kyuhyun with

repeated words of ‘thank you very kamsa hyung!’. She wondered how
long their hang outs like this would last, considering that all of them
are going to be busy with schedules soon. She bit her lip as she looked
down, trying not to be sentimental about it. Nothing about this
situation should make her sentimental. Nothing at all. Because here
she was hanging out in a semi-vintage music studio somewhere in the
hidden streets of Seoul with three boys—all her oppas. Seems pretty
normal to her actually, just remove the fact that she’s part of SNSD,
and each of the boys with her right now belong to Super Junior, 2PM,
and 2AM; she knew that fangirls would kill her and fanboys would kill
them. The headline the next day would send their CEOs’ head reeling:
four idol maknaes found dead; killed by fanboys and fangirls. Great.
Just the normalcy she needed. And as if being SNSD’s maknae isn’t
enough, she just had to have this weekly hangout with three other
maknaes, though their ages would make a difference since, well, she’s
still the youngest.

“Hyung, maybe you could order McDonalds too. I heard they won’t
charge a minimum fee anymore.”

Chansung tried his best to woo the oldest among them four. Besides,
he knew that Kyuhyun had too many side projects these days to say
that he doesn’t have money. And he declared that day at Music Bank’s
dressing room when 2PM and Super Junior first met, that whenever his
2PM hyungs neglect his needs, all he needed to do was to run to his
Super Junior hyungs. Because really, those SM-hyungs of his know how
to treat a maknae—like a maknae. See how Kyuhyun turned out—an
evil do-what-I-tell-you-because-I’m-the-youngest man. Chansung
smiled as he imagined to be as convincing as Super Junior’s youngest.
He heard Seohyun laugh again and he looked at her, telling her to
convince Kyuhyun of the same thing. And right before he resume his
fussing of the order taker, his eyes passed through his dongsaeng
Jinwoon whom he had noticed staring at Seohyun like a glue since he
first entered the studio.

“Yah, Jinwoon-ah! Quit staring at her already. Aren’t you hungry too?
Don’t be just satisfied with jjajangmyun. It’s not a growing boy’s food.”
Kyuhyun swore that being the maknae only had good things in store
for a person. Because really, if this is what being a hyung feels like,
then maybe he’d treat all his hyungs better. Because acting like
Chansung would drive anyone crazy—hyung, nuna, or dongsaeng—
yeah, definitely crazy. Looking at Jinwoon’s currently red face after
Chansung’s very insensitive comment and Seohyun’s blush as she
looked at him, he definitely knew that there is only one way to handle
this situation.

“McDonald’s it is. Jinwoon, you’re ordering?”

He wanted to cry. But he thought that tears aren’t for men—and he

didn’t really want Seohyun to see him crying, eyes red and puffy and
all. He wanted to cry but at the same time, he wanted to smash his
Chansung-hyung’s head somewhere really hard, and painful. He didn’t
really have to say it out loud that he’s staring right? He felt his smile
twitch as he remembered that evil smile Chansung wears whenever
he’s able to pull off a prank. And he could’ve sworn he saw Seohyun
blush, and his heart skipped a beat at that blush. He wondered how
else could he make his password a bit more interesting than
seohyunjjang. But despite all the humiliation Chansung gave him, he’s
got all the love for his Kyuhyun-hyung. How wise of that man to save
the situation by, well, talking about food. And he knew he’d still be
wallowing in his thoughts if it weren’t for Seohyun calling him and
asking him what he wanted.

You, he wanted to answer.

No, that didn’t seem right. Or at least for Seohyun as Jinwoon kept
staring at her after she asked what he wanted. Because really, how
hard is it to actually choose from McDonald’s menu? She left her seat,
taking the empty space next to Jinwoon when she felt the other tense
up a bit. This, really got her worried. It's not like 2AM's maknae to
suddenly go rigid when they're beside each other. It's only now, and
well, the past couple of weeks that he's been acting really weird. And
when she asked him if something's wrong, all she got was "I'll have a
burger, and a large coke and fries." And as Seohyun tried to figure
Jinwoon out for the next half hour, she didn't notice her phone ringing
on top of the subwoofer across the room.

“Are we staying over again, hyung?”

Chansung is not one to complain about staying up late doing

absolutely nothing. It’s very rare that he gets to hang out with his non-
One Day friends (scratch Jinwoon) doing not-so-silly things that he
actually feels “normal” and hanging out with friends his age. So it isn’t
much of a big deal to him, as he got to the door for their jjajangmyun
delivery, that here he was one late night on a weekend on some
undisclosed place in Seoul, Seohyun on the piano, Jinwoon on the
couch staring at her, and Kyuhyun footing the bill, and him doing—well
—nothing. Oh he’d give one of his rap parts to his Taec-hyung if it
would mean he’d get this kind of freedom and free time for more than
once a week. Because really, once a week doing things like this just
not enough. Absolutely not.

“Chansung-ah, McDonald’s here. I’ll give this to them. Here, go pay

the bill.”

It had been a tough day for the self-proclaimed Daesang singer but
ending his day with a hangout like this is definitely a fatigue-buster.
He checked his watch after handing the food to a semi-non-responsive
Jinwoon. 2AM. He smiled. He figured that he’d leave Seohyun’s food
beside Jinwoon to get her out of that piano since she’s been sitting with
it the whole time. And besides, he flipped a few pages of her music
notebook on the piano top, the four of them achieved quite a lot
tonight, relative to the other nights they’ve hung out together. Four
pages of notes and lyrics is really a lot, considering how Chansung tries
to stop the three of them harmonizing every two lines or so to re-check
whether his rap would still fit the whole song. There even came a point
when Jinwoon’s eye smile faltered, with him whispering “I wish
Hyukjae-hyung was here” when Chansung just couldn’t be convinced
that his rap lyrics was good enough.

“McDonalds!!! Oh, and I need a copy of those notes, Seohyun-ah. I’m

trying out this new software on Taec-hyung’s computer. Nice
composing software in there.”

Jinwoon couldn’t really taste the burger on his mouth and the fries
tastes, well, like paper. He came here tonight expecting nothing but
the usual hangout with three of his friends—doing nothing, and
basically failing at actually creating music TOGETHER. But tonight, the
moon was seemingly kind enough to grant them four unbelievable
hours where they were actually able to harmonize together and
actually create a song. A super freaking song! Of course, leave the
words to Kyuhyun and Chansung, while the melody and dynamics to
Seohyun and him. Seohyun and him. Seohyun and Jinwoon. Juhyun
and Jinwoon. He felt his cheeks blush and feeling Seohyun eyeing him,
he grabbed his Coke, slurping away like he was just about to choke.
He thought that tonight could probably the farthest he got with
Seohyun in terms of hanging out. Something inside him fluttered. He
liked it.
“Maybe we could do a special stage some time, don’t you think?”

Kyuhyun smiled at the thought Chansung voiced out. Now wouldn’t

that be nice? A special stage with the four maknaes of the four biggest
groups today—and he’s not talking about big as in big in numbers.
Super Junior, SNSD, and OneDay together on stage performing a single
song the four of them made together—he wasn’t one for sentiments
but the thought warmed him inside. He looked at Seohyun, asking her
how she thinks of the idea of a special stage, and her small smile told
him that the Seoul CF was not the last time he’s going to perform with
her. He liked it. But his happiness didn’t last that long since a phone
call from his vibrating phone read “TeukTeukUmma”.

“Chansung-ah, wipe off that ketchup on your chin. It’s pretty late, or
early actually, we need to get going before all your leaders would kill
me for making you all tired. Come on. Seo, you’re coming with me. I
received specific instructions from Sica-nuna to bring you home
SAFELY.”

Seohyun felt disappointed that they’d have to leave already and pretty
embarrassed at how her Jess-unnie instructed Kyuhyun like that. She
really would’ve preferred to stay longer, and if she’s lucky, watch the
sunrise with these three boys—even just for once—then her day
would’ve started her week and month so perfectly. Chansung grabbed
her trash as well as Jinwoon’s and Kyuhyun’s, smiling at her
afterwards, thanking her for making such great melody. Jinwoon didn’t
seem to miss Chansung’s compliment, or lack thereof, considering that
it wasn’t only her doing the melody for the song. She laughed as the
two OneDay boys bickered at each other, missing out Kyuhyun heading
out the door. She tapped Chansung and pointed at the door, leaving
her and Jinwoon alone on the piano while the other bugs their eldest
about cars and drivng.

“That was great, what you did tonight.”

Jinwoon couldn’t feel any more embarrassed as he tried to strike up a

conversation. And it’s pretty hard actually, considering how Seohyun
just smiles at him on times like these, where it’s only the two of them
and no one else. He just looked at his shoes, which looked too shiny
for his liking, probably his Kwon-hyung to blame. And he just kept
looking at them, missing Seohyun glancing at him with a soft smile, but
eventually fading as she looked longingly towards the entryway. He
would continue looking at his shoes, probably for the next couple of
hours because Seohyun is holding his hand now, dragging him out of
the studio.
“Hyung! Come on, let me drive. Just this once. You could drop me off
first so I don’t have to drive that much, right? You’ll have the wheel in
no time.”

Chansung tried to smile a charming one to his hyung, because really,

it’s not like he could drive their group’s van whenever he wanted. And
he wanted to abuse Kyuhyun’s maknae privileges as much as he can.
So when he saw Seohyun dragging a tomato-Jinwoon out of the studio,
he knew that he taking the wheel would mean longer time for those
two birds to tweet longer. He saw Kyuhyun scrunch both his eyebrows
and rub his temples. He counted til five, pretty sure that he’d hear a
‘fine’ anytime soon. He smiled. Kyuhyun’s Don’t even think of putting
a dent in this car. Sica-nuna made me promise to bring Juhyun home
unscathed is another form of ‘fine’ in Chansung’s vocabulary anyway.
With everyone inside the car, Chansung wished he’d have more of
these hangouts. His friendship with his OneDay brothers may be
special, but these other three are some other kind of special. He
glanced at a seemingly nervous Kyuhyun on the passenger seat, and
gave a last look at a quiet Seohyun and a still tomato-Jinwoon when he
stepped on the gas pedal.

BANG.

“Yah Hwang Chansung!”

Kyuhyun thought he’d never had to be an evil maknae outside the

Super Junior circle.

Seohyun felt a hand grip on hers tighter.

Jinwoon thought his heart exploded as he closed his eyes.

Chansung, after feeling death glare coming from the passenger seat,
knew he’s dead.
