Volume 11
3 July 2015

From Room 11
This term we have been working very hard. We have been learning about Australian animals,
mammals and endangered animals. (That means there are not many left.) We have had some Year
6s to help us read. They were very helpful to us. We really appreciate the Year 6s helping us with
Guided Reading. We like doing sport. We do fun games and they are Hula Hoops, Snakes and
Seaweed, Octopus and Seaweed and Bean Bags. We have been doing lots of art. Why were we doing
lots of art was that we had to get ready for assembly. How we got ready for assembly is that we made
Flying Purple People Eaters and a monster for a play. We made awesome monster wings that were
colourful.
Last Friday it was our assembly because it was our turn. We did the Flying Purple People Eater for
the song and The Judge for the play. It was good and hard work to practice. Before we sang the
song, Lucca and Lili, did a little joke and it was funny. In the play Robbie was the judge and Ruth,
Tsean, Ethan, Archie and Liam were prisoners. They liked their part of the play. We were good at the
assembly.

about the number and learning needs of children
at our school. The name of the school and the
name of the students will not be reported.
Information about the different types of needs,
the programs and resources the school uses to
overcome barriers and support children with
special educational needs will be collected.

From the school parent community we have

2015 Interschool Cross Country
Congratulations to all students who participated
in this years Interschool Cross Country. Many
students achieved personal goals they had set
prior to the race and it was pleasing to see the
number of runners who gave their personal best
efforts.
Safe Holidays
Have a safe, relaxing and happy holiday. School
resumes for students on Tuesday, 21 July 2015.

We believe it is important to contribute to this

because it will help Governments and the
Department develop better policies that
acknowledge the level of resources needed in
schools to meet the needs of all students in
Western Australia.
If you do not want your child/children to be
included please make contact with the school
office to ensure we are aware that your child is

Interschool Cross Country 2015

The Interschool Cross Country was held in

Denmark last week on the 25 June. Our Yakamia
team worked well leading up to the event with
several lunchtime training sessions. The Year 3
and 4s ran a distance of 1.5km and the Year 5
and 6s ran 2.0km. The course this year ran
through a beautiful trail of Karri trees and
around McLean Park.
Each member of the team contributed to the
teams overall score and result, so it was a real
team event and all team members are to be
congratulated on the way they conducted
themselves. We had a team that strived for their
personal best and showed excellent
sportsmanship. Eight schools participated,
Yakamias team came in overall 5th place in the
Championship Shield. The Handicap Shield for
the most improved school went to Mt Barker.

Congratulations to Ksharna
Coyne and Lachlan Pietrala,
medallion winners!

Each race had a field of 40 runners competing.

NAIDOC Week
What a fabulous week of NAIDOC activities it has been!
The week started with a student hosted assembly, followed by damper making across the school
through out the week!!
Lunch time activities happened Monday Thursday with badge making, loom banding and colouring
being extremely popular in the Hall.
A big thank you to all our volunteers through out the week. Also to the senior students that helped
out and of course to Louann Miniter for all her hard work and organisation.

School News
Earn & Learn
Yakamia Primary School will once again be
participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn
program. This program enables schools to earn
educational resources when anyone from the
school community shops at Woolworths. It
commences on Wednesday 15 July and continues
until 8 September. The stickers are collected and
placed on the cards provided at the store. When
completed they can be brought into the school or
placed in the appropriate box at either
Woolworths Brookes Gardens or Woolworths Dog
Rock. Last year it enabled us to obtain many new
resources for the school.

Applications for Enrolment 2016

Applications for enrolment of children entering
Kindergarten in 2016 should be made before the
end of July. If your child is currently attending
Kindergarten in 2015 you need only to apply for
Pre-Primary if you reside outside of our school
boundaries. If you are unsure please ask at the
office. Please remember to keep your address
details up to-date on the enrolment cards and to
let us know of any phone changes etc.
If you know that your child(ren) will not be
attending Yakamia PS in 2016, , please let the
office know as soon as possible.
