it’s totally upto you.
How do you suggest an ama-
teur photographer preserve
his creative copyright on the
internet?
This problem arises because we
are not taught to respect other’s
creative works. If you use a
professional’s work for a
profit-making enter-
prise, it’s your ethi-
cal duty to pay
the contributor
because this is
their source of
income. To use
an amateur pho-
tographer’s
work, you too
need to ensure
compensation
in some form -
be it by men-
tioning their
name or by
smelling and touching. Talk to a surgeon,
he may prescribe a drug to help.

professional photog-
rapher evolve to keep
up with the times?
The electronic media did pose
a challenge. But still photo-
graphs or frozen images have a
strength that electronic or
video photographs don’t
have. A strong photograph
will always outlive a video
clip.
An amateur makes a
film because he has
access to all equip-
ment, and so does a
professional. Both
make money from it,
as an ordinary audi-
ence can seldom dis-
tinguish between the
two. Is this fair on the
professional filmmak-
er?
Different people watch
different genres. But you
shouldn’t get frustrated.
Have patience. Once
these people get tired of
the other stuff, they will
come to you. Because they
have experienced amateur
work, they will realise
your worth. That apart, no
work is good or bad - just
that different people have dif-
ferent tastes.

photographer...
Be ready to travel and ex-
plore the world and under-
stand it. Sitting in your of-
fice cubicle or even a library
doesn’t give you the right
perspective. The tool is im-
portant, but how you inter-
pret what you see is even
more important.
