TOPCON (GTS – 230 N) QUICK MANUAL

CENTERING AND LEVELING:
Set the instrument on the

tripod and press the power
STEP-1 button.
Press the star key for initial

STEP-2 settings.
Press the up & down arrow

for contrast adjustment of
STEP-3a the display.
Press (F1) for turn on the

backlight of the display
STEP-3b screen.
Press (F2) for setting the

STEP-3c tilt correction
Press (F3) for turn on the

STEP-3d laser pointer. (optional)

Press (F4) for adjusting the

prism constant, temp&
pressure value etc.
STEP-3e Again,
Press F1for (Prism Con.)
Press F3for (Temp-Preas)
Once you are complete the

leveling and centering, press
STEP-3f (Esc) button for exit.

MAKING A NEW JOB:
STEP-1 Press the menu button.
Press (F1) for data collect.

STEP-2 Data collect is the detail
survey menu.
Press [F1] for inputting a new

job name or press [F2] for
STEP-3 selecting an existing job from
the list.
If you want to type the alpha
numeric characters, again
STEP-4 press [F1] and input that.Then
Press [F4] to accept the job.
NOTE: If you want to do both the topography and setting out exercises, please
select the same jobs in DATA COLLECT menu & LAYOUT menu.

CO-ORDINATES INPUTTING:
Press menu button to get the

STEP-1 main menu. Press F3 to select
the memory manager.
STEP-2 Press F4 for the next page.
STEP-3 Press F1 to input co ordinates.
Press F2 for getting the

STEP-4 created job list (if you know
the job name, you can type it
directly).
STEP-5 To select the job with up &

down arrow keys.
STEP-6 Then Press F4
STEP-7 Press [F1], for your co-

ordinate entry

Press F2-space
Press F3-clear screen
After typing you can

[F4] or [Enter]
This shows your input is

STEP-13 recorded to the memory.
NOTE: It is better to make a Control Point data sheet given below. This is
very useful for the surveyors on job handover situations.

STATION SETTING
`
Press your MENU button and
STEP-1 Press (F1) for data collect.
(Data collect is the detail
survey menu.)
Press [F2] for selecting your

STEP-2 job from the list. And press
[F4] to set the job.
Press [F1]
for OCC.PT# INPUT
STEP-3
(occupied point is your
instrument’s station point )
After inputing the station’s

STEP-4 point ID, Instrument hight
etc. Then Press [F4]
Check your station co-

ordinates. If it is correct
STEP-5
Press [F3] and go to STEP-9,
else Press [F4]
Press [F4] to check the co-

STEP-6
ordinates entry.
Check the point Id and

STEP-7
Press [F4]
Check the recorded co-

ordinates and Press [F3]

BACK STATION ORIENTATION:

NOTE: For Back orientation you can choose 3 ways.
1. Whole Circle Bearing ZERO SET.
2. Known W.C.Bearing SET.
3. Back Station Co-ordinate SET.
BACK STATION BY WHOLE CIRCLE BEARING ZERO SET:
After the station set up, orient

the telescope to the Back
STEP-1 station point. Then Press [F2]
for start the Back sighting.
STEP-2 Press [F2] for ZERO set
Now you should get this

STEP-3
message on the screen.
STEP-4 Press [F3] for start measuring
Press [F3] for start

STEP-5 co-ordinate measuring
Once the machine starts the

measuring, quickly press ESC
button. Because now your
STEP-6 bearing is set as ZERO. Again
press ESC button and start the
survey works.
NOTE: If you want to know the co-ords of the BS point, wait upto the complete
measurement. For recording that data, Press [F3]

BACK STATION BY KNOWN W.C.BEARING SET:

STEP-2 Press [F4] for BS inputting.
STEP-3 Press [F3]
STEP-4 Press [F3]
Press [F1] for Azimuth

STEP-5
inputting.
Type your W.C.B on this

STEP-6 window.
(12.0259 means 12° 2’ 59”)

STEP-7
message on the screen.
STEP-8 Press [F3] for start measuring

Once the machine starts the

measuring, quickly press ESC
STEP-10 button. Because now your
bearing is set as ZERO. Again
press ESC button and start the
survey works.
NOTE: If you want to know the co-ords of the BS point, wait upto the complete
measurement. For recording that data, Press [F3] .

BACK STATION BY CO-ORDINATE SET:

Press [F1] and input the back

station point id, PCODE, and
STEP-2 Reflector Height. Then
Press [F3] for confirmation.
Press [F3] for starting the

After checking the co-ords

co-ordinate measurement.

TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYING
Press [F1] for preparing a

STEP-1 detail survey.
After completing the station

& B/S set up orient the
STEP-2 telescope to the prism. Then
Press [F3] to start detail
surveying.
Input the starting point no,

STEP-3 code, and reflector height.
Then Press [F4]
Press [F3] to prepare the

STEP-4 measurement.
Press [F3] to start the co-

STEP-5 ordinate measurement.
Then you should see this

STEP-6 message
Confirm your co- ordinate and

STEP-7
Press [F3] to record this data.
After record, your point Id

STEP-8 will be increasing
automatically.

you have to do shown on below.

TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYING WITH OFFSET MEASUREMENT
Input the starting point no,

STEP-1 code, and reflector height.
Then Press [F3]
Press [F4] for choosing next

STEP-2 page.
Press [F1] for choosing

STEP-3
OFFSET menu.
Most commonly using offset

STEP-4 system is the 2nd one. So Press
[F2]
NOTE: This offset function

is working as per this figure.
Here, the telescopic line
between building corner and
the instrument is obstructed
by a tree. Before inputting,
please confirm the offset
lengths from the chainman
side. Now your required
point (Building Corner) is
2m forward and 1m left of
the actual observed
point (prizm).
Input your Left (-) or Right

(+) offset. Here your offset is
STEP-5
1m left. So input -1 and
Press [F4] for enter.

Input your forward (+) or

Backward (-) offset. Here
STEP-6 your offset is 1m forward. So
input 2m and Press [F4] to
enter.
Press [F3] to start co-ordinate

STEP-7 measuring
This screen shows, the

STEP-8
machine is measuring.
This is the calculated co-

STEP-9 ordinates and if you want
record Press [F3].
This screen shows your data

STEP-10
has recorded to the memory.
This screen shows your

STEP-11 instrument is ready for next
observation.
