SPECIFICATION FOR 600/1000V GRP PRIMARY FEEDER PILLARS
TYPES A (2000 AMPS.), B (1000 AMPS) & C (500 AMPS)
1.1

Standard specifications
The primary feeder pillars shall conform to the latest edition of IEC 60439 or
any other equivalent international standard, which shall be subject to the
approval of the Authority.

1.2

Site Conditions
The pillars shall be installed outdoors in UAE in salt laden dusty atmosphere
where the maximum humidity of 100% and maximum ambient temperature of 50
deg. C can be experienced.
The pillars shall be suitable for continuous
operation at the above site conditions.

1.3

Scope and nature of work


The specification provides for design, manufacture, test at manufacturer's
works in presence of FEWA representatives, suitable packing, transportation
and off-loading at site of works or FEWA stores in satisfactory condition and
proper stacking as directed by FEWA.
The pillars shall be of outdoor substation, dwarf type, the dimension should be
such that it can accommodate all accessories and equipments keeping in view
the safe distance from the live parts and phase to phase clearances according to
the international standards, for use on 433 volts, 50 Hz, 3 phase, 4 wire
supply system.

1.4

Constructional requirements

1.4.1

Enclosures
The enclosure box shall be of glass reinforced polyester (GRP) of moulded
type using high quality right grade of raw materials to suit severe weather
conditions. The fibre glass content of GRP shall not be less than 450
gm/sq.metre/mm thickness. The enclosures shall be manufactured by hand lay
up process in approved moulds or any other approved process so as to ensure
smooth finish on mould side i.e., on external face and reason- able smooth
finish on internal face. There shall be confluency in the product equality and
finish on surfaces.
The wall thickness of enclosure should not be less than 4mm and 6mm at point
of stress so that it can firmly withstand the shocks due to short circuit and any
other causes. Ribs and stiffeners shall be provided wherever necessary.
The following features must be available with the feeder pillar enclosure:
i)

Access doors shall be of close fitting with handles which positively


hold the doors when turned.

ii)

The doors should be provided with suitable approved gasket to


prevent entrance of moisture and humidity.

iii)

The feeder pillar shall be provided with pad locking facility and the
Authority will arrange the pad lock and the master key.

iv)

Suitable ventilating arrangement should be provided for the


enclosure.

v)

The GRP laminates shall have following mechanical properties:

Tensile strength : 80 Mpa as per ISO/R527-66


Impact strength : 40-50 KJ/m2 as per ISO-179-82 or equivalent

vi)

Shall be non hygroscopic and shall not warp under humid conditions.

vii)

Shall be resistant to ultra violet radiation.

viii)

The construction of pillars shall ensure a degree of protection


conforming to IP 42.

ix)

External finish should be plain, semi gloss light grey gelcoat finish to
RAL 7032.

x)

Roof or top of the enclosure shall have sufficient slope to drain


rainwater and shall be moulded in one piece.

xi)

It should be fire retardant, self-extingushing to DIN 4102 class B2.

xii)

Enclosure should be provided with nameplate mentioning details such


as current rating, voltage rating, type, serial no., year of manufacture,
name of manufacturer and the words Property of FEWA, UAE etc.

xiii)

The spacing between center to center of the fuse bases shall not be
less than 140 mm.

xiv)

Should be provided with lifting arrangement, earthing bolts at two


points and cable gland plate (with opening at the bottom) for fixing
with screws and also foundation bolts as per International Standards.
Foundation drawing shall be provided.

1.4.2 Danger and Name Plate


Danger plate in both Arabic and English languages approved by FEWA shall
be fixed on the doors. The words "Property of FEWA-UAE" should either be
embossed on the enclosure or written clearly on a separate plate of approved
design to be fixed on the enclosure. Paint quality shall be good and durable.
The danger plate shall be as per the drawing enclosed with this specification.
1.4.3 Busbars and Fuse Assembly
The busbars and connections shall be of tinned copper of suitable dimensions
and shall be able to carry the specified currents continuously at 50 deg. C
ambient and allowable temperature rise as per relevant IEC. The busbar
connections shall have a generous contact area over the busbar, the faces
shall be machined to close tolerances to ensure good electrical contact
including connections to the fuse incoming connection. Horizontal and vertical
barriers shall be used or the busbar shall be completely shrouded, if the
busbars are not insulated. Insulation between the busbars and body should be
of approved type and stated in the guaranteed particulars.

HRC fuse links, fuse bases and supporting rails shall be provided as per IEC
60269, DIN 43260, DIN 57636 & VDE 0636, VDE 0660, DIN 43623. Fuse links
and fuse base shall be NH type, size 2, class of operation of fuses shall be gL as
per the above specifications and shall be tested as per relevant international
standard. Contacts and connections of fuse bases shall be rated at 400 Amps
irrespective of sizes of fuse links. The fuse links shall be rated at 400, 300 and
200 amps as mentioned in relevant clauses.
All fuse contacts shall be silver plated or silver faced. Busbars must be clearly
marked or painted (in two narrow strips on either side) to show the Red,
Yellow, Blue phases and neutral and earth. They should be horizontally
mounted with the same sequence of red at top and earth bar at bottom. Fuse
gear provided must be of approved reputable manufacture. Relevant labels for
ammeters, voltmeters, C.T.s shall be provided. The requirement of fuse links
shall be as per bill of quantity.
1.4.4 Mounting arrangement
Suitable mounting arrangement of pillar shall be provided and shall be shown
clearly on foundation drawing to be supplied by the manufacturer during
tendering and should include grouting bolts, nuts, washers etc.
1.4.5 Earthing Arrangement
Approved earthing arrangement of copper earthing bus of specified size for
connecting the armours of cables to earth bar shall be provided as per the
requirement of the type of feeder pillar. Adequate size of solid removable link
between earthing bus and neutral bus shall be provided. All non-live metallic
parts shall be internally connected to the earth bar. Two earth terminals shall
be provided which shall be connected to the earth bar.
1.5

Special Tools
Any special tool if required, for working in the feeder pillar has to be provided
with each unit. Tenderers are required to state the same during tendering.

1.6

Testing
Every feeder pillar is to be routine tested according to the relevant
specification. The routine tests should include AC voltage withstand test at 3.5
KV for one minute for main bus and 2.5 kV for one minute for auxiliary circuit
besides other routine tests. Certified copies of the type test certificates not older
than seven years for the complete feeder pillar and main component shall be
supplied along with the offer. If type test certificates which are acceptable to
FEWA are not enclosed along with the offer, Authority reserves its right to ask
the tenderer to conduct all or any of the type tests as per the relevant standard
in presence of FEWA inspectors at no extra cost to FEWA. Routine tests on ten
percent of the lot will be repeated in the presence of FEWA representatives at
the manufacturer's works. The supplier shall make provision in his offer to bear
all costs that are incurred in carrying out these tests to the satisfaction of FEWA.
However, costs towards travel, accommodation etc. of FEWA representatives
shall not be included in the quoted price.

Requirements for Individual Feeder Pillars

Type A : 2000 Amps, feeder pillars

1.8.1 Rating
The pillar shall have a continuous rating of 2000 amps under the specified
conditions. Two numbers of bars of size not less than 800 sq.mm each shall be
provided for each phase busbars. One number of bar of size not less than 800
sq.mm. shall be provided for neutral busbar. One number of bar of size not less
than 500 sq.mm. shall be provided for earth busbar.
Any sizes of phase, neutral or earth bus bars, other than specified above shall be
subjected to the approval of the Authority. The thickness of all phase,
neutral and earth busbar shall not be less than 10 mm. It shall have short
circuit capacity of 30 KA or more for at least 1 sec. as per IEC 60439.
1.8.2 The pillars shall be equipped with
a)

Incoming arrangements of 7 single core, 630 sq.mm stranded copper


cables, XLPE insulated (two cables for each phase and one for
neutral cable). The arrangement should include knockout in the gland
plate (which can be easily knocked out with one push/tap of the
hammer), with glands for the cables with suitable link units of 2000 A
rating, together with suitable clamping devices for mounting of the
cables.

b)

6 Nos. outgoing circuit arrangements suitable for 3 1/2 x 300 sq.mm


stranded aluminium cables per circuit, including suitable clamping
devices, knockouts, glands and facility to connect cable armour by
flexible copper wire to earth busbar, together with HRC fuses of 400A
rating. The fuses shall be NH type, size 2, class of operation gL as
per IEC 60269, DIN 43260, DIN 57636 & VDE 0636 and shall be
tested as per relevant international standard. The requirements for
fuse links shall be as per bill of quantity.

c)

One voltmeter together with seven-position selector switch to read


voltages between phases and phase to neutral.

d)

Three single phase amps. meters 0-2000 ampere range with


matching current transformers to read the incoming current on each
phase, with facility to read maximum current over a period of time
with a reset arrangement. All current transformers shall be provided
with nameplates with its serial number, ratio, burden, type number
and accuracy class.

e)

6 Nos. single phase amps. meters 0-500 ampere range with matching
current transformers to read the outgoing current on one phase from
each outgoing cable, with facility to read maximum current over a
period of time with a reset arrangement. Fixing of meters and C.T.s,
Should be done with suitable arrangement approved by FEWA. The
meters should be read clearly from out side through unbreakable glass
windows ,which shall not fade / defuse with time. All current
transformers shall be provided with nameplates with its serial number,
ratio, burden, type number and accuracy class

f)

One - 240V, single phase, 3 pin shielded and fused socket of 13A
rating, fuse protected for maintenance purposes.

g)

One 240 V threaded type bulb holder with switch.

h)

One No. of fuse puller with each Feeder Pillar.

i)

All live parts shall be suitably shrouded to bar any direct access to
live parts and shall be subject to approval. The shrouds shall have a
minimum thickness of 3mm.

All connectors have to be of approved type.


One complete sample should be submitted for approval before mass production.

Type B - 1000 amps. feeder pillars

1.9.1 Rating
The pillar shall have a continuous rating of 1000 amps under the specified
conditions. One bar of size not less than 800 sq.mm shall be provided for each
phase busbar. One bar of size not less than 400 sq.mm shall be provided for
neutral busbar. One bar of size not less than 300 sq.mm shall be provided for
earth busbar. Any sizes of phase, neutral or earth bus bars, other than
specified above, shall be subjected to the approval of the Authority. The
thickness of all phase, neutral and earth busbars should not be less than 10
mm.It shall have short circuit capacity of 30 KA or more for 1 sec. as per IEC60439.
1.9.2 The Pillars shall be equipped with :
a)

Incoming arrangement of 4 single core 630 sq.mm stranded copper


cables, XLPE insulated. The arrangement should include knockouts
in the gland plates (which can be easily knock out with one push/tap
of the hammer) and glands for the cables with suitable link units of
1000A rating, together with suitable clamping devices for mounting of
the cables.

b)

6 Nos. outgoing circuit arrangements suitable for 3 1/2 x 300 sq.mm


stranded aluminium cables per circuit including suitable clamping
devices, knockouts, glands and facility to connect cable armour by
flexible copper wire to earth busbar, together with HRC fuses of 300A
rating. The fuse shall be NH Type, size 2, class of operation gL as per
IEC 269, DIN 43260, DIN 57636 & VDE 0636 and shall be tested as
per relevant international standard. The requirements for fuse links
shall be as per bill of quantity.

c)

One voltmeter together with seven-position selector switch to read


voltages between phases and phase to neutral.

d)

Three single-phase ampere meters 0-1000 Ampere range with


matching current transformers to read the incoming current on each
phase, with facility to read maximum current over a period of time
with a reset arrangement. All current transformers shall be provided
with nameplate with its serial number, ratio, burden, type number and
accuracy class.

e)

6 Nos. single phase amps. meters 0-500 ampere range with matching
current transformers to read the outgoing current on one phase from
each outgoing cable, with facility to read maximum current over a
period of time with a reset arrangement. Fixing of meters and C.T.s,
Should be done with suitable arrangement approved by FEWA. The

live parts and shall be subject to approval. The shrouds shall have a
minimum thickness of 3mm.

1.10 Type C - 500 amps. Feeder Pillars


1.10.1 Rating
The feeder pillar shall have a continuous rating of

500 amps under the

specified conditions. One bar of size not less than 400 sq.mm shall be provided for
each phase busbar. One bar of size not less than 300 sq.mm shall be provided for
neutral busbar. One bar of size not less than 200 sq.mm shall be
provided for earth busbar. Any sizes of phase, neutral or earth bus bars, other
than specified above, shall be subjected to the approval of the Authority. The
thickness of all phase, neutral and earth busbars should not be less than 10
mm. It shall have short circuit capacity of 30 KA or more for 1 sec as per IEC60439.
1.10.2 The Pillars shall be equipped with :
a)

Incoming arrangement shall be provided for one 3 1/2 core 300


sq.mm stranded aluminium cable XLPE insulated. The arrangement
should include knockout in the gland plate, which can be easily
knocked out with one push/top of the hammer with suitable incoming
isolating link units of 500A rating, clamping devices for mounting of the
cables. Facility to connect cable armour by flexible copper wire to earth
busbar shall also be provided.

b)

5 Nos. outgoing circuit arrangements suitable for 3 1/2 x 185 sq.mm


stranded aluminium cables per circuit including suitable clamping
device, knockouts, glands and facility to connect cable armour by
flexible copper wire to earth busbar, together HRC fuses of 200A
rating. The fuses shall be NH type, size 2, class of operation gL as per
IEC 269, DIN 43260, DIN 57636 and VDE 0636 and shall be tested
as per relevant standard. The requirements for fuse links shall be as per
bill of quantity.

c)

One voltmeter together with seven-position selector switch to read


voltages between phases and phase to neutral.

d)

Three single phase ampere meters 0-500 ampere range with


matching current transformers to read the incoming current on each
phase, with facility to read maximum current over a period of time with

1.9.4 Overall dimensions


It is intended to enclose some of the feeder pillars along with Ring Main Unit and
transformer in a fibre glass enclosure made of panels of standardized
dimensions, the height of which shall be not more than 2500 mm.

SPECIFICATION FOR 400 AMPS GRP SERVICE PILLAR
1.

Standard Specification:
The service pillar shall conform to the latest edition of IEC 60439 or any other
equivalent international standard, which shall be subject to the approval of the
Authority.

2.

Site Condition:
The service pillar shall be installed outdoors in U.A.E. in salt laden dusty
atmosphere where the maximum humidity of 100% and maximum ambient
temperature at 50 deg. C can be experienced. The service pillars shall be
suitable for continuous operation at the above site conditions.

3.

Scope and Nature of Work:


The specification provides for design, manufacture, test at manufacturer's
works in presence of FEWA representatives, suitable packing, transportation
and offloading at site of works or FEWA stores in satisfactory condition and
proper stacking as directed by FEWA.

4.

Rating:
The service pillar shall be rated at 400 Amps, 50 cycles, 3 phase, 4 wire and
433 volt supply system.

5.

Busbars:
The phase and neutral busbars shall be made of tinned copper of dimensions
not less than 30x10mm and shall be able to carry the specified currents
continuously under maximum ambient temperature of 50 deg. C and allowable
busbar temperature rise as per IEC. The earth busbar shall also be of tinned
copper with dimensions 30x5mm.
Adequate solid removable links between
earthing bus and neutral bus shall be provided. Red phase, Yellow phase, Blue
phase, Neutral and Earth bars should be mounted horizontally with the same
sequence of red at top and earth bar at bottom. All live parts shall be
completely shrouded to bar direct access to live parts including bus bars and
connections and shall be subject to approval. Thickness of shrouding plate
should not be less than 3 mm. Busbars should be properly labelled by short
strip of painting (Red, Yellow, Blue, Black for Neutral and Yellow Green for
Earth) on either side. The busbar rupturing capacity should be more than 30KA
for at least 1 sec. as per IEC-60439. The insulation between busbars and
enclosure shall be approved type. The insulation should be tested for 3.5KV
minimum for 1 minute.
The service pillar shall be provided with one incoming of 3-1/2 x 300 sq.mm.
aluminium cable bay with bimetallic lugs and one outgoing of 3-1/2 x 185
sq.mm. aluminium cable bay with bimetallic lugs each with suitable glands,
situated at either side of the center of the busbars. Suitable armour clamps
shall also be provided.
240V, single phase, 3 pin-shielded sockets of 13A rating and 240V screwed
lamp holder with switch are also to be provided.

HRC Fuse Links and Fuse Bases:


The bus bars shall have 18 Nos. outlets (six numbers on each bus bar) with 18
Nos. of HRC fuses. The HRC fuses and fuse bases shall be NH type, size 00,
class of operation of HRC fuses shall be gL as per IEC 269, DIN 43260, DIN
57636 and VDE 0636 and shall be tested as per relevant international
standard. Contacts and connection of fuse bases shall be rated at 160 Amps
with extended terminal suitable for fixing to the busbars and bimetallic lugs of
palm length, minimum 36mm. All fuse contacts shall be silver plated. Each
pillar shall be provided with one number of fuse puller of approved type. The
terminals of fuse bases shall be suitably designed to accommodate upto 4 x 70
sq.mm size aluminium cables and shall allow short circuit current to pass
without excessive heating. The requirement of fuse links shall be as per bill of
quantities.

7.

Outgoing service cable terminations:


Service cable termination shall be through lugs to secure connections of
stranded aluminium cable size upto 70 sq.mm. Suitable cable glands shall also be
provided along with minimum 3mm thick gland plate. For blocking the gland
holes, suitable knock outs to be provided in the plates. These can be easily
knocked out with one push/tap with hammer. The requirement of lugs shall be as
per Bill of Quantity.

8.

Enclosure:
The enclosure box shall be of glass-reinforced polyester (GRP) of moulded
type using high quality right grade of raw materials to suit severe weather
conditions. The fibre glass content of GRP shall not be less than 450
gm/sq.m/mm thickness. The enclosures shall be manufactured by hand lay up
process in approved moulds or any other approved process so as to ensure
smooth finish on mould side i.e., on external face and reasonable smooth finish
on internal face. There shall be confluency in the product equality and finish on
surfaces.
The wall thickness of enclosure should not be less than 4mm and 6mm at point
of stress so that it can firmly withstand the shocks due to short circuit and any
other causes. Ribs and stiffeners shall be provided wherever necessary.
The following features must be available with the service pillar enclosure:
i)

Access doors shall be of close fitting with handles, which positively


hold the doors when turned.

ii)

The doors should be provided with suitable approved gasket to


prevent entrance of moisture and humidity.

iii)

Shall be provided with pad lock facility.

iv)

Suitable ventilating arrangement should be provided for the


enclosure.

v)

The GRP laminates shall have following mechanical properties:


- Tensile strength: 80 Mpa as per ISO/R527-66
- Impact strength:
40-50 KJ/m2 as per ISO-179-82 or
equivalent.

vi)

Shall be non hygroscopic and shall not warp under humid conditions.

Shall be resistant to ultra violet radiation.

viii)

The construction of pillars shall ensure a degree of protection


conforming to IP 42.

ix)

External finish should be plain, semi gloss light grey gelcoat finish to
RAL 7032.

x)

Roof or top of the enclosure shall have sufficient slope to drain


rainwater and shall be moulded in one piece.

xi)

It should be fire retardant, self-extingushing to DIN 4102 class B2.

xii)

Enclosure should be provided with nameplate mentioning details such


as type, current rating, voltage rating, serial no., year of manufacture,
name of manufacturer etc.

xiii)

Should be provided with lifting arrangement, earthing bolts at twopoint and cable gland plate with opening at the bottom for fixing with
screws and also foundation bolts as per International Standards.
Foundation drawing shall be provided.

Danger Plate:
A danger plate in both Arabic and English languages of an approved design
shall be fixed on the doors. The word "Property of FEWA-UAE" shall either be
embossed on the enclosure or written clearly on a separate plate of approved
design to be fixed on the enclosure. Paint quality shall be good and durable.

10.

Earthing Arrangement:
Two earth terminals shall be provided at the lower end of the enclosure, which
are connected internally with the earth bar. All non-live metallic parts shall be
internally connected to the earth bar.

11.

Mounting Facility:
The service pillar shall be of self-supporting to enable mounting on a preformed
foundation.
Each pillar shall be supplied with a pre-cast concrete base in accordance with
drawing No. FEWA/E/GEN/252/2003 with a mixing ratio of 1:1.5:3 using
minimum 350 Kg of cement/m3 of concrete. The structural concrete shall have
minimum cube crushing strength 250 kg/cm2 at 28 days. Sufficient number of
steel reinforcements shall be used to provide excellent resistance against
mechanical breakage to the approval of the Authority.
The quality and test for coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, water and cement
shall comply with B.S. or equivalent standards. The source of coarse
aggregate and fine aggregate shall be approved by FEWA Engineer.
Aggregate/cement ratio, fine/total aggregate ratio, slump, batching and mixing of
concrete, and strength of concrete shall comply with B.S. or equivalent
standard.
Cement type shall be Sulphate Resistant Cement or Moderate Sulphate
Resistant Cement according to the soil nature.
Two coats of approved Bitumen paint shall be applied for below ground
concrete areas

The dimensions of the pre-cast base not specified on the drawing shall be
made to suit the dimensions of service pillar. The contractor shall submit the
drawing to the Authority for approval.
Two fully threaded mild steel bolts with nuts and washers properly anchored in
the precast bases shall be provided to give sufficient support to the base as per
the attached drawing No. FEWA/E/GEN/252/2003. The outer surface of the
precast base shall be smooth, fair faced and free from any sharp edges.
Galvanization to M16 bolts shall be 80 microns minimum.
Proper curing with acceptable water for a period of minimum 7 days to be given
after casting.
The Authority reserves the right to inspect the foundation at manufacturers
workshop.
The requirement for concrete foundation shall be as per Bill of Quantity.
12.

Special Tools:
Special tools, if required for operation and maintenance of service pillar, should
be supplied with each service pillar.

13.

Drawings:
All constructional, foundation and equipment drawings should be supplied
along with the offer. All drawings are subject to approval of FEWA, prior to start of
manufacture.

14.

Testing:

a) Electrical Tests:
The service pillar shall be subjected to all type, special and routine tests in
accordance with IEC recommendations. Certified copies of the type and
special test reports not older than seven years shall be supplied along with the
offer. Routine tests shall be repeated on 10% of the quantity in presence of
FEWA representatives at the manufacturer's works. The supplier shall make
provision in his offer to bear the costs that are incurred in carrying out these tests
to the satisfaction of FEWA. However, cost towards travel, accommodation etc.
of FEWA representatives shall not be included in the quoted price.
b) Tests on GRP Enclosure:
If certified copies of type and special test certificates on GRP enclosure
confirming the specified requirements of our specification are not enclosed,
FEWA reserves the right to ask all or any of the following tests to be carried out
and test reports/certificates to be submitted for approval.

SPECIFICATION FOR LV POLE MOUNTED FUSE BOX
(Revised in August, 2004)
1.

STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS
The low voltage pole mounted fuse box shall conform to the IEC-439 or any
other equivalent international standards which shall be subject to the approval of
the Authority.

2.

SITE CONDITIONS:
The fuse boxes shall be installed outdoors in U.A.E. in salt laden dusty
atmosphere where the maximum humidity of 100 % and maximum ambient
temperature of 50 deg.c. can be experienced. The fuse boxes shall be
suitable for continuous operation at the above site conditions.

3.

SCOPE AND NATURE OF WORK


The specification provides for design, manufacture, test at manufacturer's
works in presence of FEWA representatives, suitable packing and delivery at
FEWA's site of works or stores in satisfactory condition and proper stacking as
directed by FEWA.
LV fuse box shall have one incoming and one or two outgoing circuits.
The fuse box shall be mounted on LV pole in conjunction with 50 or 100 KVA
distribution transformer and for use on 433 Volts, 50 Hz, 3 phase and 4 wire
supply.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

4.1

G.R.P. ENCLOSURE
Glass reinforced polyester enclosures shall be generally as shown in the
Dwg.No. FEWA/E/GEN/264/2004 with the following standard features:
i)

Preference shall be given to enclosures where main body is moulded in


single piece.

ii)

FGRP enclosures shall be manufactured using fiberglass chopped


strand mat impregnated with fire retardent self extinguishing polyester
resins. Fire rating of FGRP laminate shall conform to DIN 4102 class B2 or
equivalent Standard.

iii)

Successful tenderer shall procure all raw materials for manufacture of


enclosures from reputed manufacturers and in particular shall evidence
purchase of fire retardent polyester resins from the manufacturer.

Premixing of any ingredient for improving fire resistance/self extinguishable


properties of the resin and gel coat shall not be allowed in local fabricator
factory. If it is required, it should be done at manufacturer plant only.

The fibreglass content in FGRP laminate shall not be less than


gms/m2/mm of thickness or 25 - 30% by weight.

shall not be less than 6 mm. Rib and stiffeners shall be provided
whenever necessary.

vii)

The colour of the enclosures shall be to RAL 7032.

viii)

Degree of protection shall not be less than IP 42 as per IEC publication.

ix)

FGRP enclosures shall be complete with :


a)

Hinged lockable (2 No. triangular or square key latch type locks


normally used in electrical industry) front main door.

b)

Sealing & Padlocking facility provided for main door. (Padlock &
seal not to be supplied).

c)

The door shall be provided with rubber/neoprene gaskets on both


sides. Gasket should be suitable for high ambient temperature and
to prevent any ingress of humidity and moisture inside the cabinet.

d)

The bottom of cabinet shall be provided with 2mm thick M.S. cable
glands plate.

e)

Suitable ventilators shall be provided on the enclosure. IP rating of


vents shall not be less than IP 42.

f)

Enclosures shall be non-hygroscopic and shall not warp under


humid conditions.

g)

Rooftop or canopy of the enclosure shall have sufficient slope to


drain rainwater.

h)

Enclosure shall be provided with 12mm earthing studs.

i)

Enclosure shall be provided with nameplate mentioning details


such as current rating, voltage and type, serial number, one way or
two ways, manufacturers name, year of manufacture, which shall be
subject to the approval of FEWA.

4.1.1

DANGER/PROPERTY PLATE;
Danger plate in both Arabic and English language, approved by FEWA, shall be
fixed on the door. The words "Property of FEWA - UAE" should either be
embossed on the enclosure or written clearly on a separate plate of approved
design to be fixed on the fuse box.

4.1.2

INTERNAL LAYOUT
The general internal layout shall be as shown in the enclosed Dwg.No.
FEWA/E/GEN/264/2004.

4.2.

FUSE BOX ASSEMBLY

4.2.1

FUSES
HRC fuse links, fuse bases and supporting insulators shall be provided as per
IEC 269, DIN 43260. The class of operation of fuses shall be gL and shall be
tested as per relevant international standard. Fuse base shall be rated at
400A, NH2 type suitable for NH2 type fuse links. All fuse contacts shall be of
silver or silver faced.

4.2.2

PHASE BUS FEATURES


The phase bus of fuse assembly should be of tinned copper of 30 x 5 sq.mm.
cross section and of suitable length for conveniently connecting bimetallic lugs of
incoming cables. The phase bus should be completely shrouded and the nuts,
bolts and washers used, should be Nickel-Cadmium plated.

Mounting plate, G.I. 2mm thick of suitable size shall be provided to mount
fuses, copper bus etc. Plate material and galvanization shall be as per
relevant IEC/BS specification.

4.3

MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT;
The fuse box will be mounted on the poles in conjunction with pole mounted
distribution transformer. Suitable arrangement must be provided and shown
clearly on the drawing to be supplied by manufacturer during tendering about
the fixing arrangement of the fuse box on wooden pole as per FEWA drawing.
Galvanization of flats & bolts, nuts, washers shall be as per relevant IEC/BS
specifications.

4.4

EARTHING ARRANGEMENT;
Fuse box earthing should be provided at one point by one No. of M12 stud
fixed at the side wall with suitable nut and washer. The earthing stud shall be
pre-wired to the mounting plate, neutral bus and cable gland plate.

The fuse box lower side should be provided with holes of following sizes :

4.5.1

FOR TWO-WAYS FUSE BOX:


One incomer and two outgoing cable holes to accommodate cable size upto 3
x 95 mm.sq size with compression type gland for the incomer and wiping
glands of size 25 sq. mm to 70 sq.mm. for outgoing feeders. Compression
glands, wipping glands and bimetallic lugs for 3 x 95 sq. mm. cable will be in
the scope of supply of the manufacturer.

4.5.2

FOR ONE-WAY FUSE BOX:


One incomer and one outgoing cable holes to accommodate cable size upto 3
x 95 sq. mm with compression type glands. and wiping gland of size 25sq. mm.
to 70sq. mm. for outgoing feeder. Compression glands, wipping glands and
bimetallic lugs for 3 x 95sq. mm. cable will be in the scope of supply of the
manufacturer.

5.

REQUIREMENT FOR FUSE BOXES:

5.1

TWO-WAYS 200 AMPS FUSE BOX:


Two sets (3 Nos. of fuses in each set) of each circuit shall be provided with 3
Nos. 400 A NH2 fuse base suitable for fixing 100A, NH2 fuse link with fuse
blowing red indicator visible from front side.
The fuse contacts should be silver plated. Each fuse will be separated by
bakelite fuse barrier.
All live parts shall be suitably shrouded to bar any direct access to live parts
and shall be subject to approval.

5.2

ONE-WAY 160A FUSE BOX.The fuse box should be provided with one incomer circuit from the bottom and
one outgoing circuit at the bottom of vertically mounted fuse base of NH2 and
the fuse of size 160A. Cables shall be connected to the fuse base directly.
The fuse blowing red indicator should be visible from the front of the box after
opening the front door.
A suitable size tinned copper neutral and earth terminal connector to be
mounted inside the box and shall be suitable for connection of incoming and
outgoing circuits.
Internal connections between neutral bus and gland plate to earthing stud and
earthing stud shall be made with copper cables of size not less than 35 mm2.

6.

TESTING

6.1

Certified copies of type test certificates for fuse bases/links shall be supplied
alongwith the offer.

6.2

Every fuse box is to be routine tested according to the relevant standard. The
routine tests should include A.C. High Voltage withstand tests (Dielectric test) at
2.5 KV for one minute and insulation resistance tests.

6.3

Sample/routine tests shall be carried out in manufacturer's works and


witnessed by FEWA two Engineers and the supplier should bear all the cost
that are incurred in carrying out these tests to the satisfaction of FEWA.
However, costs towards travel, accommodation etc. of FEWA's Engineers
shall not be included in the quoted price.

6.4

Test on Enclosure :
Successful tenderer shall be required to submit test report from independent
testing laboratory on the samples marked by FEWA as to:

Two samples of the box after fabrication in accordance with FEWA


specification shall be tested by an independent authority and tests certificate
shall be submitted directly to FEWA.

samples (One enclosures for every 100 Nos. or part thereof for quantity on
order) for testing by the laboratory.
The manufacturers shall submit to FEWA its in-stage inspection and quality
control procedures.
Routine tests on all finished enclosures shall be carried out at manufacturer's
works and report submitted to FEWA.
7.

PAST EXPERIENCE;
Manufacturers shall submit their past experience as to supply of enclosures
with details as name of client, address, quantity supplied, value of contract,
year of supply etc.

8.

DRAWINGS:
Detailed drawing of the enclosure shall be submitted along with the offer.
Detailed drawing shall show internal layout, connections of the LV fuse box,
dimensions/clearances, mounting arrangements, etc.
