Moving in harmony with force
How is it possible to add on Shizen Gyoun Rysui? It is
because the Taihen Ukemi Gata in 1 - 8 are natural
Ukemi does not refer to the we must avoid any injuries!
feeling Judo and Aikido. You should understand it as a body
which receives and remains standing, a Ukemi of self
protection. In other words, it is possible to grasp the true
nature of Ukemi. Ukemi are self defence. It is important to
purse the essence of Ukemi by examining the natural form of
true combat, where self protection includes both evasive
counters and methods of attack. Kuhen no kata is a name for
an infinite, natural form, and could probably be called
natural Ukemi taihen jutsu for the sake of survival.
KEN TAI NO ICHI JO
The body and fist as one
The entire body movement and energy is used behind a punch.
Just moving the body makes the punch more devastating. There
is no need to rely on muscle tension.
SOSHIN GO-KEI GO GYO NO KATA

manifestations
Shoshin Go-kei Go Gyo no Kata is based on the five elements
of Sanshin no Kata (Chi, Sui, Ka, Fu, and Ku). It is either

commonly known as Sanshin no kata or Soshin no kata.


is a three step movement done with the heart of a three
old child. The Japanese believe that we keep this three
old heart until we are 100 years old.

For Sanshin, Hatsumi uses the Kanji for 3 hearts, Takamatsu


used the Kanji for 3 fingers.

Soshin go kei go gyo no kata - Fundamental training routines
of the 5 elemental manifestations
Sho Shi Go-kei Go-gyo no kata is based on the five elements
of the Godai. It is more commonly called either the "Sanshin
no kata" or "The Godai". This is a three step movement done
with the heart of a three year old child. This because the
Japanese keep the 3 year heart until you are one hundred.

CHI NO KATA - Earth form

Tori steps back to Soshin no kamae. Dropping his weight


slightly on the right leg, Tori steps forward with the right
foot, and brings the right hand up in Sanshitan ken.
NOTE: The hand must not alter course, but the feet must
change direction.

SUI NO KATA

- Water form

Tori steps back to Soshin no kamae, and steps back to the


right 45 degrees with a left Jodan Uke. Stepping forward
with the right foot, Tori strikes with Omote Shuto to Uko.
3.

KA NO KATA - Fire form

Tori steps back to Soshin no kamae, and steps back to the


right 45 degrees with a left Jodan Uke. Stepping forward
with the right foot, Tori strikes with Ura Shuto to Uko.

FU NO KATA

- Wind form

Tori steps back to Shoshin no kamae, and steps back to the


right 45 degrees with a left Gedan Uke. Stepping forward

with the right foot, Tori strikes with a Gedan Shito Ken to
Koe.

KU NO KATA - Sky form

Tori steps back a little with the right foot, and does a
left Gedan Uke. At the same time Tori lifts the right hand
(open) above the head. Tori then does a right Sokuyaku Keri.

the Kihon Happo correctly, everything is going to be

Kosshijutsu's three fundamental ways

ICHIMONJI NO KAMAE

- Figure one posture

Uke, and Tori are both in Ichimonji no kamae. Uke does a


Jodan Tsuki to Men. Tori steps back 45 degrees to the right,
with a left Jodan Uke. Tori then steps forwards with the
right foot, and strikes with a right Omote Shuto to the neck
(Uko)
2.

HICHO NO KAMAE

- Crane posture

Tori is in Hicho no kamae, and Uke is in Ichimonji no kamae.


Uke strikes with a Chuden Tsuki to Suigetsu. Tori drops his
weight by bending his knee of the supporting leg. Tori then
does a Gedan Uke. As Tori lifts his body weight, he kicks to
Butsumetsu with the sole of the left foot. Tori then drops
the left foot to the ground, and steps forward with the
right foot, and strikes with a right Ura Shuto to Uko.

JUMONJI NO KAMAE

- Cross posture

Tori is in Jumonji no kamae, and Uke is in Ichimonji no


kamae. Uke strikes with a right Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back
to the right 45 degrees, and blocks with a left Jodan Uke
(Tori keeps the arm straight). Tori the turning from the
hips up clockwise, strikes with a left Shito Ken to Kimon
(keep the arm straight). Uke then steps forward with the
left foot, and a left Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back 45
degrees to the left, lifting the left hand up to the level
of Ukes eyes, and strikes with a right Jodan Uke (keep the
arm straight). Tori then turns from the hips up anti
clockwise, and strikes with a right Shito Ken to Kimon. Tori
then steps back with the right foot, to Jumonji no kamae

OMOTE GYAKU

- Outside twist

Uke steps forward and takes hold of Toris lapel with the
right hand. Tori take hold of Ukes hand, bends the knees,
and steps back with the right foot. Tori then pulls Uke hand
away from the lapel (Toris arm is straight). Tori then steps
forward with the right foot, the right hand joins the left
hand. Tori then steps back with the left foot, and applies a
Omote Gyaku to Ukes wrist, and throws him.
NOTE: Tori takes hold of Ukes hand the same way as Omote
Gyaku lock

OMOTE GYAKU HENKA

- Outside twist variation

Uke steps forward and takes hold of Toris lapel with the
right hand. Tori takes hold of Ukes hand with the left hand.
Uke then steps forward with the left foot, and strikes at
Toris Men with a left Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back to the
left dropping the body weight, and blocks with a right Jodan
Uke. Tori pulls Ukes hand from the lapel. The left hand
joins the right hand, and Tori applies a Omote Gyaku to
throw Uke.

URA GYAKU

- Inside twist

Uke grabs the lapel with the right hand. Toris right hand
comes across and takes hold of Uke hand. Tori steps back
with the left foot, and pulls Uke hand front he lapel. Toris
left hand joins his right, and he applies a Ura Gyaku to
throw Uke.
7.

MUSHA DORI

- Warrior capture

Uke step forward and takes hold of Toris sleeve with the
right hand. Tori steps back with the left foot, and lift the
left forearm up vertical on the inside of Ukes arm. Tori
then steps back in with the left foot, and back, and across
to the left with the right foot. Toris left arm goes over
the top to the outside of Ukes arm, and under. Tori lifts
his left arm up, and takes hold of his left hand with the
right hand. Tori applies a Musha Dori lock, and drops Uke.
NOTE: For the arm lock, Toris arm must be just above Ukes
elbow. Do not interlink the fingers, as this is dangerous to
Tori. Cup the hands

GANSEKI NAGE - Rock throw
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Uke grabs Toris right sleeve, with the left hand. Tori steps
back with the right foot, and pulls Uke off balance. Tori
steps back in with the right foot in between Ukes legs (back
is to Uke). The right arm at the same time comes up under
Toris arm (on the outside) lifting Ukes arm so that it rests
on top of Toris shoulder. Toris right arm looks as if he is
saluting, barring Ukes am Tori turns to the left from the
Torso up, and throws Uke to the left.
TAIJUTSU NO KAMAE

The left leg is forward, and slightly bent. The left arm is
straight out pointing at Uke, and the hand is open. The
right hand is in Shuto, and is held above the left bicep
with the palm face towards the face.

HICHO NO KAMAE - Crane posture
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu
The left hand is held out in front of the body in the
direction of Uke. The right hand is clenched in Boshi Ken,
is placed slightly hidden on the inside of the left elbow.
The sole of the left foot rests on the top of the right calf
muscle. The left knee faces Uke.

HOKO NO KAMAE - Bear receiving posture
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu
The left foot is slightly forwards, and the body is very
upright. The hands are held above the head, in Shako Ken.
The whole posture looks as though you are holding a large
ball. The weight ratio is 70/30 forwards. Make yourself look
big.

JUMONJI NO KAMAE - Cross posture
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu
The left foot is slightly in front of the right foot. The
arms are crossed at the wrists with the left in front, at
chest height. The hands are in extended Boshi Ken.

TAIHENJUTSU MUTODORI NO KATA
(Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu)
1.

HIRA NO KAMAE

- Flat stance

Uke is in Daijodan with a Katana. Tori faces him in Hira no


Kamae 3 feet from Uke.. Uke cuts with Jodan Kiri. Tori steps
back from Hira, to Ichimonji no kamae to avoid the cut. Tori

turns a little from the hips up to the left, and rolls to


the right on the right shoulder.
2.

ICHIMONJI NO KAMAE - Letter One stance

Uke is in Daijodan with a Katana. Tori faces him in


Ichimonji no kamae. Uke cuts with Jodan Kiri. Tori rolls
forwards to the right 45 degrees, on the right shoulder. Uke
turns to face Tori, with the Katana in Daijodan. Tori is on
one knee, and as Uke strikes with Jodan Kiri, Tori moves in
and strikes with Shito Ken to Suigetsu.

JUMONJI NO KAMAE

- Cross stance

Uke is In Daijodan with a Katana. Tori faces Uke in Jumonji


no kamae. Tori jumps to the rear to avoid the cut, and
promptly jumps back in striking with Omote Shuto to Uko, and
Omote or Ura Shuto to either Uko or Kote.
NOTE: This can be done both inside and out side of the Jodan
Kiri

HOKEN JUROPPO
(A.K.A. Tatara Ken Juroppo)
The sixteen secret fists
1.

KIKAKU KEN, or ZU TSUKI - Demon horn strike

Using the thick bone on the forehead, sides, and the back of
the head, in a smashing butting action.
2.

SHUKI KEN

- Waking up elbow strike

Use the bone points of the elbow to strike close to the


target. Women must use this a lot to help them escape.
3.

FUDO KEN, or KONGO KEN - Immovable fist

Use the clenched fist for punching, and striking.


Knuckles of little, and ring finger together called Nio Ken.
4.

SHUTO

or KITEN KEN - Wake up rolling strike

Use the sides of the hands, with the hand open approx 60
Degrees. Snap the hand open on impact. The strike is used a
lot)
Shuto - Koto Ryu
5.

Kiten - Gyokko Ryu (Kiten means wisdom)

SHI SHIN KEN - Finger needle strike

Using the fingertip for striking or pressure. Mainly the


little finger.
Takamatsu Sensei once broke a small stone in half with this
strike.

SHITAN KEN - Finger tip strike

3, or 4 fingertips in a stabbing strike. Use mainly the ends


of the fingers for striking.
When three fingers are used to strike together. this can be
called Hosen Ken (Bee sting strike).
7.

SHAKO KEN - Claw strike

Use the palm, and the finger tips to strike and rake. Then
change this into a fist.
8.

BOSHI KEN or SHITO KEN - Thumb drive fist

Use an extended thumb that is supported by a fist to jab,


and strike muscle areas, and nerve endings.
This can also be called Hiso ken (Secret spear fist)
Boshi ken - Koto Ryu

Shito ken - Gyokko Ryu Shitojutsu

SHIKAN KEN - Extended knuckle Fist

Use the bones of the middle knuckles of half folded fingers


to strike the target. Also can be with just the middle
knuckle extended.

KOPPO KEN or KO KEN - Bone strike

Use the middle knuckle of a bent thumb, that is braced


against the clenched fist. Use to strike or apply pressure.
This can be used as an alternative to Boshi ken.

HAPPA KEN or HACHIYO KEN - 8 leaves fist

Use the open hands, as slapping strike. Use more Nio Ken
then Hachiyo ken.

SOKUYAKU KERI - Sole of foot

Use the bottom ball, heel (sole) of the foot, to shove into
the target. The heel contacts first.

SOKKI KEN or HICHO GERI - Waking up knee strike

Use the bone points of the knee to strike close targets.

SOKUGYAKU KERI - Toe reverse strike

Use the tips of the toes to strike, or jab the target.


Sometimes it is best to first use Hicho then the Geri, then
Sokugyaku keri.
This can also be called Soku Shin To (Toe sword)

TAI KEN - Body fist

Use the hips, shoulders etc to strike


pressure. This is a Satori attack

(slam) or apply

Also sometimes called Tai Atari

SHIZEN KEN or KI KEN - Natural fist

Use the nails and teeth, etc to attack close targets.

This is also called To-ate (distant strike), or Shinki-fudo


ken (Gods mind immobile strike). This is a good technique
for women to use against the groin.

HAJUTSU KYU HO
Nine methods of overpowering an attacker
1.

TEHODOKI - wrist grab escape

KATATE - One hand


Single handed escapes. Pivot the body to release the grab.
The thumb, and fore finger on Ukes hand is the weak point.
RYOTE - Two hand

Two hand escape grabs. Move the body to force the release
from the grab. "strength is not required"
2.

TAIHODOKI - Near body escapes

Use the body to escape the hold applied by Uke. Use the
hands, feet, head, nails etc.
3.

OYA GOROSHI - Kill the parent

Free yourself from grabs by applying pressure to the thumb,


or by bending back the thumb.
4.

KO GOROSHI

- Kill the child

Free yourself from grabs by bending the little finger back,


on itself, crushing, or breaking the knuckles.
NOTE
This is sometimes also called "Ko-jadori" (Catch a strong
man)

KERI KUDAKI - Kick break
Over powering a kick
Using mainly the hands and the feet to attack Ukes kicks.
Shift the body to the outside, and the inside of the kick,
and counter.
Strike with Fudo Ken to under the thigh (Fudo Ke Yaku Ate),
and strike the knee to drop him.
1. Kicking punch, or kicking base leg or groin
Uke does a right punch. Move to the left and kick the punch.
Uke does a right kick. Kick it up with the right leg.
Uke does a right kick. Yoko Aruki to the left and kick
groin.
Uke does a right kick. Block to the left side and break leg.
2.

Catch the kick, and knee strike to the caught leg

Uke does a right kick. Move to the left and catch the leg in
the left hand. Place the right hand on top of the leg. Kick
the other knee, to break it, and to take Uke down.
3.

Punch kicking leg - lower leg

Uke does a right kick. Move to the left, and punch the weak
joint of the right leg, to break it. When striking to the
leg with Fudo ken, it is called "Fudo ke Yaku ate".

KOSSHI KUDAKI - Throw counter

To prevent being thrown by a attacker, who has grabbed you.


Drop the body weight, and the centre of gravity by
crouching. It is also important to relax. Hit the weak
points, and kick.

HAPPO GERI - Eight ways of kicking
Kick series counters for body, and arm grabs.
1. Migi Sokyaku Suihei Ken (Horizontal position kick)
Yoko Aruki to the right, then kick with the right heel to
Ukes left thigh.
2. Hidari Sokuyaku Suihei Ken
Yoko Aruki to the left, then kick with the left heel to Ukes
right thigh.
3. Migi Sokuyaku Harai Ken (Leg kick sweep)
Yoko Aruki to the right then kick with a right inward
swinging heel kick to the left thigh.
4. Hidari Sokuyaku Harai Ken
Yoko Aruki to the left then kick with a left inward swinging
heel kick to the right thigh.
5. Migi Sokuyaku Suzu Ken
Yoko Aruki to the right then kick to the groin with the
right inside edge.
6. Hidari Sokuyaku Suzu Ken
Yoko Aruki to the left then kick to the groin with

7. Migi Sokuyaku Henka Keri
Do any kick with the right foot to cause pain.
8. Hidari Sokuyaku Henka Keri
Do any kick with the left foot to cause pain.

KEN KUDAKI - Punch destroying

Uke strikes. Tori does a left Jodan Uke, and immediately


follows with either a Shuto or a Fudo ken, to the same area

that the Jodan Uke was applied. This can be done to either
the inside or the outside of the attack.
NOTE
Use the body and knees to apply the body angle

HENKA KUDAKI

- Variations of the destroyer

This is the same as Ken Kudaki, but attacking the elbow


followed by a kick instead of the Shuto. This can be used
within other techniques.
TORITE KIHON DORI NO KATA
(Hand lock disabling form)
1.

OMOTE GYAKU - Outside wrist twist

1. The wrist is twisted, forcing Uke to the ground on his


back
2. Ukes right elbow is barred with Tori's right knee.
3. Body leverage is added to help the technique.

URA GYAKU - Inside wrist twist

1. The wrist is twisted, forcing Uke to the ground on his


front.
2. Ukes upper right arm is pinned by Tori's knee.
3. Ukes wrist is driven against the forearm for leverage.
4. A counter downward pull is added for better control.
5. Ko Goroshi is used to aid the lock.

SUWARI GATA
Seated techniques
1.

ICHI GEKI

- one rage

Tori and Uke are both in Fudoza no kamae. As Uke comes up on


one foot, and grabs Toris jacket with the right hand. Tori
grabs Ukes arm with the left hand. Tori leans back and kick
Ukes in Suigetsu with the right foot. Tori releases his grip
on Ukes hand, and knocks it away, with the left hand

OSAE KOMI - Pin down

Tori and Uke are both in Fudoza. Uke comes up on the right
foot, and grabs Toris jacket with his right hand. With his
right hand Tori applies Ura Gyaku to Ukes grabbing hand, and
kicks Ukes left leg away with the right foot. Uke falls to
Toris right side. Tori places his right knee onto Ukes right
arm, and places his left hand in the middle of Ukes back to
pin him down.

HITO - Flying fall


Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Chuden no kata.
Uke strikes Tori in the chest below the collar bone with
Shitan Ken, causing Uke to slump from the pain. Uke then
leaps into the air, and does Ryote Sokuyaku Ken to the
Chest. Uke then lands on the ground on his feet.
NOTE
If when Uke lands on the ground but not on his feet, he must
roll back wards to cushion the fall, and must then come up
into Kamae.

KAPPI - Lively jump


Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Chuden no kata.
Uke, and Tori walk towards one another. Just as they pass on
the right side, Uke strikes Tori with a right Ura Shuto to
Tori bicep, and immediately strikes again with a right Ura
Shuto to Toris neck. Uke then leaps to the left in Hicho
Tobi and escapes.
KOMPI - Surrounding jump
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Okuden no kata.
Uke strikes Tori with a Shikan ken. Tori steps to the left
to avoid the strike, but moves back in with a right Ura
Shuto to the neck, then jumps to the left in Hicho Tobi.
NOTE
Practice jumping in any direction up to 1.5m.
JUMONJI - Cross
Tori is in Jumonji no kamae. Uke does a right Jodan Tsuki.
Tori steps back and blocks with a left Jodan Uke, followed
by a right Fudo Ken using a Ken Kudaki style movement.
Immediately Tori does a left Boshi Ken into Ukes right
Butsumetsu (Tori's left) with no step forwards. Tori then
does a right Boshi ken into Butsumetsu with a right step
forwards.
KERI SUKUI
Uke moves in with a right roundhouse kick. Tori ducks
forward, and to the right to tackle Ukes supporting left
leg, and throwing Uke onto his back.

ASHI DOME
Uke does a right kick, Tori moves to the left, and does a
right Gedan Uke. Tori takes the left leg, or punches the
left leg.
NOTE
This is also called "Moguri Gata" (Ashi Sabaki).

GYAKU WAZA
Locking techniques
1.
OMOTE TAKE ORI - Outside break the Bamboo
Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
The back of Ukes hand is gripped. Toris hand circles the
underside of Ukes wrist, with the thumb, and middle finger,
and folds the wrist towards the inside of the forearm.
When you catch the wrist with the body it is called "Take
Ori - Tai Ori"
NOTE
When Take Ori has been done properly the wrist will be
broken. Just like bamboo, it will splinter, and never repair
properly again.

URA TAKE ORI - Inside break the Bamboo
Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
The palm of Ukes hand is gripped by either of Toris hands.
Toris thumb, and middle finger encircle the back of Ukes
hand. Ukes wrist is then pulled to fold against the inside
of the forearm.

OMOTE GYAKU - Outside twist
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu
Ukes left hand is held by both of Toris hands, with the palm
facing Uke, and the fingers vertical. Tori steps back with
the right foot, and twists Ukes hand clockwise locking the
wrist to drop Uke.

URA GYAKU - Inside twist
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu
Tori holds the back of Ukes right hand with his own right
hand. Tori turns Ukes hand over so that Ukes palm face to
Toris left. Toro steps back with the right foot, and twists
the hand clockwise, locking it, and dropping Uke to the
ground.
5.
HON GYAKU - Straight lock
Ukes left hand is held in Ura Gyaku. Tori holds the hand
close to his chest. The right foot is moved forward, and

Tori bends over from the hips, and applies extreme pressure
to Ukes wrist.
NOTE
If you pull down on the elbow then place the knee on it. It
is called Gozen Dori (before god capture)
6.
OMOTE ONI KUDAKI Outside break the devil
Kukishinden Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Uke extends his right arm. Tori places the back of his left
hand against Ukes inside wrist. Tori then place his right
arm under Ukes upper arm. Tori then pushes his left hand to
meet his right hand. As this is done Ukes arm bends locking
him. Do not interlock the fingers this is dangerous.
7.
URA ONI KUDAKI Insode break the Devil
Kukishinden Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Uke extends his right arm. Tori places his inside wrist of
his left hand against the inside of Ukes right wrist. Tori
places his right arm over the top of Ukes upper arm. Tori
then grabs hold of his own left forearm to lock Uke (the
left hand has taken hold of Ukes wrist).
8.
MUSHA DORI - Warrior catch
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Torite Kihon Gata
Tori places his left arm over the top of Ukes extended right
arm, at the elbow. Tori wraps his arm around Ukes, and
grasps his right hand. Ukes arm is bent, and his is leaning
backwards.

MUSO DORI

- Catch a strong man

Uke takes hold of Tori sleeve. Tori steps out, and bends his
arm in so that his hand is next to his chest, trapping Ukes
arm. Tori then places his other hand on Ukes elbow locking
him up. Apply pressure to take him down.
NOTE
This is best done when wearing armour

O-GYAKU

With Uke laid flat on his stomach. Pin the shoulder down,
and fold his arm over and across his shoulders.

Put your left arm under Ukes right arm, and put it on the
shoulder. Put the left foot in front of Ukes right foot, and
throw. It will change from Ganseki Otoshi to Ganseki Oshi to

Put the right hip against Ukes right hip. Take the Ukes
right hand with your left hand, and grab his left collar

RYUSUI IKI - Going with the flowing water

TOMOE NAGE (Throwing in a circle)

Tori grabs Ukes lapels, drops onto his backside, and places
the sole of one of the feet into the stomach. Tori then
rolls back throwing Ukes overhead.
NOTE
When doing this technique kick as if kicking a kick back (or
a sack full of rice).
b)

TACHI NAGE (A.K.A. Tachi Nagare) - Standing throw

Tori grabs Ukes lapels, drops to his backside, and slides on


of the legs straight out between Ukes legs (The other is
sole of the foot down with the knee bent vertical). Tori the
pulls on the collars and throws Uke overhead.

c)

YOKO NAGARE - Side flow

Tori grabs Ukes lapels. Then does the Yoko Nagare roll,
pulling on the lapels as he rolls throwing Uke forwards.
d)

TEMAKURE - Hand pillow

Toris left hand grabs Ukes right wrist, and the right arm
hooks up from behind Ukes upper left arm. Tori braces the
arm against his own chest. Tori then drops onto his backside
pulling Uke with him. Uke falls onto his face.

KURUMA NAGE

- Water wheel

Tori grabs Ukes lapels, and drops onto his backside swinging
the foot up into Ukes groin throwing him backwards. Tori
continues the rolling motion, and finishes sitting on Ukes
chest.
SHIME WAZA GO GATA
Five methods of choking
In Togakure Ryu a choke, means a choke, and makes Uke pass
out, or choke, and break.
1.
HON JIME - Principle choke
Takagi Yoshin Ryu. Eri Shime Gata
Uke grabs the right lapel with the right hand, and the left
with the left hand (the wrists are crossed. The palms face
towards the body, with the thumbs inside the jacket. Uke
applies a scissor action to apply the choke, twisting the
knuckles into the sides of the neck.
2.
GYAKU JIME - Reverse choke
Takagi Yoshin Ryu. Eri Shime Gata

Uke grabs the same as Hon Jime, but the palms face out, with
the fingers inside the jacket. Uke does the scissor action
to choke.
3.
ITAMI Jime - Painful choke
Takagi Yoshin Ryu. Eri Shime Gata

Tori does Ryote Mune Dori, with the palms down. Tori then
pulls forward while pushing back and inward with the tips of
the knuckles or Boshi ken on both sides of the neck.
4.

SANKYAKU JIME - Triangle choke

Uke is sitting. From the floor, hold one inch (2.5cm) from
Ukes neck on the shoulder with the right hand, and pull.
Jump in from the right side, and choke.
5.

DO JIME (A.K.A. Tai Jime)

- Body choke

Restrain the legs, arms, or the legs.

JIN RYAKU NO MAKI


The principles of man
ICHI GEKI

- one rage

Tori and Uke are both in Fudoza no kamae. As Uke comes up on


one foot, and grabs Toris jacket with the right hand. Tori
grabs Ukes arm with the left hand. Tori leans back and kick
Ukes in Suigetsu with the right foot. Tori releases his grip
on Ukes hand, and knocks it away, with the left hand
striking the wrist. Tori stands stepping back with the right
foot into Ichimonji no kamae.
OSAE KOMI - Pin down
Tori and Uke are both in Fudoza. Uke comes up on the right
foot, and grabs Toris jacket with his right hand. With his
right hand Tori applies Ura Gyaku to Ukes grabbing hand, and
kicks Ukes left leg away with the right foot. Uke falls to
Toris right side. Tori places his right knee onto Ukes right
arm, and places his left hand in the middle of Ukes back to
pin him down.
UDE ORI - Arm break
Shindenfudo Ryu Jutaijutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke and Tori are both in Za Kamae. Uke comes up on the right
foot, and strikes with a right Tsuki. Tori leans to the
left, and grabs Uke wrist with the right hand, and then
leans back to the right, and raising the right knee, and
applies pressure to Ukes elbow by using his knee. Tori rolls
to the left and continues the pressure.
KANA SHIBARI - Iron grip
This is used against clothing grabs and rough situations.
Tori grabs the collar or the shoulders with the hands and
applies a Koppo Ken into the sides of the neck with excess
pressure (use Hadome), and applies a Kikaku Ken to the face,

pulling Uke towards him with the grab. Can finish with a
Suzuki washi Dori - attack to the testicles.

TENGU DORI - Capture the demon


Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. Ura Shoden no Kata.
If Uke applies a technique similar to kana Shibari, Tori
defends with a Ryote Happa ken to the ears, or Boshi Ken to
the sides of the nose, or pressing Hadome, or straight on to
the nose
NOTE
For the Ken use Fudo ken, Happa ken, or Shuto.
KETSU MIYAKU - Squeeze the wrist
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki.
Uke is behind Tori, and applies a Sankaku Jime to Tori
(right hand to front of the neck). Tori turns his chin to
the right into the pit of the elbow, and drops his body
weight (do these together). Place the thumb (of the right
hand), into the Kyusho point above the inside of Ukes right
elbow. Toris left hand takes Uke right hand, and pulls the
right arm out from the body (keep it straight. Tori turns to
the right bending Ukes arm, until the are side by side
facing the same direction. Tori then applies a lock to the
arm, and does a left kick to the Ukes right calf muscle.
TAI JIME (A.K.A Karada Jime) - Body squeeze
Once Uke is on the ground, Tori places the foot next to the
ribs, and leans forward to apply pressure to the ribs with
the shin. If Uke attempts to slip away, Tori steps over Uke
with the free leg, and applies pressure to the opposite side
of the body.
JIGOKU OTOSHI

- Hell plunge

Uke steps forward with a right Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back
to the right 45 degrees, and does a left Jodan Uke, and
grabs the wrist with the left hand, and pulls the arm so
that it is straight. Moving around the arm, and switching

the grip from the left to the right hand, Tori places his
left knee against the elbow, and forces Uke to the ground.
A variation is called Jigoku Dori (Hell grab)

NAGE KAESHI
Counter throwing techniques
KOKO (A.K.A Okyo) - False push
Uke attempts to throw with Seio Nage, Tori drops his hips,
and strikes with a left Boshi Ken to the Shichibatsu
(Kidneys), and a right Fudo Ken to Suigetsu. This is done
form Ukes right side
Shichibatsu means "Seven days taken", meaning you will not
be able to stand for seven days.
HUKO 1

- The Tiger lays down #1

Uke steps forward with a right Chudan Keri. Tori steps back
45 degrees to the left, and does a right Gedan Uke. Tori
then steps forward with the left foot, and strikes with a
left Shitan Ken to the groin from under the right leg.
NOTE
To be able to do the final strike, you must move in fast
after the Gedan Uke.
HUKO 2

- The Tiger lays down #2

Uke steps forward with a right Chudan Keri. Tori steps back
45 degrees to the right, and does a left Gedan Uke, and
catches the leg with the left hand. Then rocking back in
Tori strikes with a right Fudo Ken to the inside of Ukes leg
above the ankle bone.
ATAMI DORI (A.K.A. Zu Dori)

- Capture the hand

Uke attempts at throw. Tori drops his hips, and strikes from
Ukes right side with a right Fudo ken to the face, and at

the same time, grabs the hair with the left hand to drag him
back to the ground. Tori then strikes with a Shako Ken to
the face. Twisting Ukes head helps with the take down. This
is called Kubi Saka Dori (Neck twist grab)
FU KAN - Wind turning
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Shizen Shikoku no kata.
Uke attempts a Seionage. Tori punches Uke in the face with a
right Fudo Ken, and grabs the back of Ukes belt with the
left hand. Tori the leans forward, and rolls, taking Uke
with him. When they land Tori continues his roll to finish
on top of Uke.

KOYOKU - Rival scoop


Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Shoden no kata.
TRNT P. 223
Uke strikes with a Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back to the right
45 degrees, and does a left Jodan Uke. Then without moving
the legs, Tori turns from the hips upwards to the left, and
strikes with a Boshi Ken to Uke Butsumetsu. Keeping the left
arm with Ukes striking arm, Tori steps forward with the
right foot, and Yoko Aruki's with the left foot, across the
front of Uke. At the same time as the Yoko Aruki, Tori drops
the left arm under Ukes arm, and throws with either Ogoshi,
or Ganseki Nage.
HOTE KI - Release and throw
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke grabs Tori's lapel with the right hand. Tori checks Ukes
hand with his left hand. Uke steps in with a left Jodan
Tsuki. Tori shifts to the left inside of the Jodan Tsuki and
strikes with a right Omote Shuto to the bicep area of Ukes
grabbing arm. Tori then pulls the grab from the lapel, uses
Kosshijutsu to Ukes arm with his right hand, turns to the
left, and throws with Seio Nage.
ATE NAGE - Place the throw
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. Chuden no Sabaki Gata.
Uke grabs Toris lapel with the left hand. Tori take hold of
the hand with his right hand in Gyaku Te Take Ori, and
strikes with a left Fudo Ken to Butsumetsu, striking under

the arm. Tori turns to the right going under Ukes left arm,
and grabs Ukes left shoulder with the left hand. Tori then
kicks Ukes supporting leg out, and throws him.
KERI NI TAISHITE
(Against the kick)
KYOTO

- False push

Tori is in Seiza. Uke attacks with a right Zenpo Keri. Tori


steps to the left and catches the kick on the shoulder. Tori
then grabs Ukes supporting leg, pulls from under Uke
dropping him to the ground. This is called Ashi Jigoku Dori
(leg rotation with Hell grab)
NOTE
Blocking the kick with the shoulder body strike, is called
Kata Tai ken.

SETTO - Break and drop


Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke grabs Toris lapel with the right hand. Tori checks this
with the left hand. With a left step to the left Tori
strikes with a right Omote Shuto to the inside of Ukes right
bicep area. Tori then strikes with a right horizontal Boshi
ken Butsumetsu.
NOTE
If after the Shuto he still holds on, Lift the arm, and
strike with Fudo Ken to Jakkin to break the elbow. The Boshi
Ken is so that it goes between the ribs.
HISAKU - Fly and squeeze
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Chuden no kata.
Uke grabs with a Ryote Mune Dori. Tori strikes with a Ryote
Boshi ken into the side of Ukes throat. Then grabbing the
tops of the shoulders, Tori jumps up, and wraps his legs
around Ukes waist. Squeezing the legs together to knock the
wind from Uke, Tori releases his hold on the shoulders, and
drops to the ground. Then taking hold of the ankles he pulls
Uke to the ground. A right Kagato keri to the chest, Tori
then rolls with Koho kaiten.

Uke strikes Tori in the chest below the collar bone with

elbow. The right thumb, presses into the nerve in the side
of the neck, and the thumb of the left hand, presses into
the nerve in the elbow. Tori shifts the left foot to the
left, and places the right foot, against the hip. Pressing
the nerves, pushing out the foot, and turning Anti clockwise
Tori throws Uke onto his back.

YUME MAKURA - Dream pillow


Kukishinden Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Sabaki Gata.
Uke does a right Jodan Tsuki, Left Jodan Tsuki, right Zenpo
Keri, right Jodan Tsuki. Tori responds with a left Jodan
Uke, right Jodan Uke, left Gedan Uke, and finally with a
right Jumonji Dori. Tori's left hand takes hold of Ukes
right wrist, and the left hand takes Ukes elbow.. Tori steps
back and brings the arm into a form of Oni Kudaki. Tori then
changes the grab from backwards to forwards, and pushes on
the elbow, and pulls on the wrist so that his arm opens
straight. Tori holds Ukes straight arm against his chest,
and falls backwards taking Ukes arm with him. Tori then
rolls over Ukes back, and holds him in O Gyaku
RYOTE KAKE - Two hand trap
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. Chuden no Tai no kata.
Uke does a double hand choke to Toris neck. Tori drops his
hips, and steps back with the left foot, and pushes up on
the underside of Ukes elbows. Tori then suddenly pivots to

the right dropping to the right knee, and pushes up with the
left hand, and pulls down with the right hand. This flips
Ukes onto his back.
NOTE
All these movements are done in one movement.
FUDO - Motionless
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Shizen Shikoku no kata.
Uke grabs with the left hand, and punches with the right
hand. Tori steps to the right, and does a Left Jodan Uke.
Tori grabs Ukes hand with the right hand, and applies Take
Ori. Tori then grabs the left shoulder with the left hand,
at the same time moving across to the left. Tori maintains
the Take Ori, while pulling Uke forward by the shoulder to
throw Uke to the ground. Tori steps back with his right
foot, and throws him.
GOKURAKU OTOSHI - Let fall to heaven
Shindenfudo Ryu Jutaijutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke holds Tori in Kumi Uchi. Tori steps back to the right
with the right palm under Ukes elbow. Tori then steps back
in with the right, rolling the elbow over as he steps in,
pulling Ukes back a little. Uke tries to regain his balance,
Tori places his left hand on Ukes right hand, drops to the
left knee, and pushes Uke to Tori's left pulling him over.

TEI KEN - Squeeze strike


Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki
Uke grabs Tori from behind in Tai Jime. Tori drops his body
weight, and does a short step to the left, grabbing Ukes
hands as he moves, and pulling them apart in to a Hira
Ichimonji position. Tori steps back to the left with the
right foot. Tori then strikes with a right Fudo Ken to Men,
drops the right arm down the up under Ukes left arm, and
finishes with Ganseki Otoshi.
SETSU YAKU - Dancing snow
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Ten no kata.

Uke does a right punch (Shindenfudo Ryu Style). Tori then


shifts to the right, and takes hold of Ukes right wrist with
his left hand (the palm is down and on top of the hand).
Tori steps in with the right foot, across to Ukes right
foot. At the same time twist Ukes hand out as in a Gyaku
Omote Gyaku. Toris right hand comes up under Ukes right arm,
and grabs the shoulder, and then barr's the arm. Tori then
steps through with the right foot, and turns a little
clockwise, turning the arm in to Oni Kudaki, and drop him
the floor.
NOTE
If Uke will not let you turn clockwise, and do the Oni
Kudaki, turn instead anti clockwise, and throw Uke with
Gyaku Nage.
MUSAN - Scattered frog
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Ten no kata.
Uke strikes with a right Fudo Ken (Shindenfudo Ryu Style).
Tori steps back, and across the left so the punch passes by
his chest. At the same time as stepping Tori drops his body
weight, and takes hold of Ukes wrist with the left hand. The
right hand comes up under Ukes arm, with a Shako Ken to the
face or a Fudo Ken to the chest. Tori then steps back with
the right foot to face Uke, and turns the grabbed hand so is
similar to Take Ori. Tori then passes under the arm anti
clockwise, keeping it straight. When Tori has passed under
it completely, he stands at the side of Uke with the arm
still straight (in a straight line with the opposite
shoulder). With a right Shuto Tori strikes the upper arm
muscles dropping Uke.
NOTE
When doing the final Shuto, if the body weight is dropped at
the point of contact, the Shuto will deliver more impact,
and be a more devastating attack to the muscle.

GEKKAN - Moon Liver


Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Ten no kata.
Both are in Shizen. Uke steps forward, and punches
Shindenfudo Ryu style. Tori does a slight right step, and
lifts the left hand to take hold of Ukes wrists (he does not
grab). Tori the shifts back to the left, and takes hold of

Uke right shoulder (Toris left), and kicks with Sokuyaku to


Suigetsu. Without stepping back to the ground Tori drops
straight out the right knee, at the same time he lifts the

on his stomach on the ground to his right side. Tori
finishes with O-Gyaku.
KATAMAKI - One side wrap
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke does a right Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps to the right, and
does a left Jodan Uke. Uke strikes with a left Jodan Tsuki,
Tori
slides the right foot back, and does a Jodan Uke,
dropping this into a Musha Dori to his left arm. Tori then
steps in with the left foot, applies a lock, and strikes
with a left Boshi Ken to Butsumetsu.
KO NO KI - Strike the demon
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Okuden no kata.
Uke strikes Tori with a Ryote Happa Ken to the ears. He then
jumps up in front of Tori, and strikes with a Ryote Sokuyaku
Keri.
U GARI - Reap the Quail
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Shizen Shikoku no kata.
Uke attempts Osoto Gake. Tori lets Uke throw him, but does a
Yoko Nagare to a seated position. Tori then pulls Uke over
his head or Shoulder, and continues the rolling motion to
end up sitting astride the prone Uke. Finish with a Hon
Jime.
NOTE
With the Yoko Nagare, Tori keeps hold of Uke. The whole
technique is done with a continuous flow.
SHIZEN - Natural
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Shizen Shikoku no kata.
Uke does Ryote Mune Dori, and starts to shove Uke. Tori
lowers his hips, and strikes with a Fudo Ken to the stomach.
If Uke then pulls Tori does a Kick to the groin in a Sanshin
Motion.
HAIBU YORI
(Attacks from behind)

SHI SAI

- Finger break

Uke grabs the back of Tori's collar, with the right hand.
Tori reaches back with the right hand, and grabs the hand.
Tori then leans forward to straighten Ukes arm. Tori turns
to the left, and swings his left fist into Ukes ribs. Tori
then twists Ukes hand from the Collar, with a right Ura
Gyaku. Tori then steps back with the left foot, using the
left hand to apply pressure to Ukes right elbow. Tori kneel
on his left knee, and pulls Uke to the ground, and kicks
Ukes chin with the right foot.
SAKKETSU - Killer squeeze
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki.
Uke attacks Tori from behind with Tai Jime (bear Hug). Tori
drops his body weight, and leans a little forward, and grabs
both of Ukes arms, and pulls the out to the sides (same as
Hira Ichimonji). Tori then does Yoko Aruki to the right,
keeping hold of Ukes arms, and keeps walking to drop him to
the ground.
KIN KUDAKI

- Destroy the Gold

Uke is behind Tori, and grabs the Collar, and pulls him.
Tori shifts to the side, and grabs Ukes groin with the hand,
and then stamps on the foot, with the heel. A Kikaku Ken can
be used to finish the technique.
HIBARI (A.K.A. Un Jaku) - Skylark
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Ten no kata.
Uke and Tori are both in Shizen. Uke steps forward with the
right foot, and strikes with the right hand (Shindenfudo
Ryu_ Style).
Tori drops to his left knee to avoid the
punch. Toris left hand is at Ukes knee, as a cover, with the
left elbow at shoulder height. Tori then stands up fast, and
brings a right Fudo Ken up under Asagasumi. This knocks Uke
backwards. Tori then pivots anti clockwise, so he is
standing next to Ukes left side (both face front), and with
his right leg crossed over Ukes left leg. Tori takes hold of
the skin, and sleeve of Ukes left arm, and pushes his arm
forward, knocking Uke over his leg onto the ground.

KATA OTOSHI

- Drop the soul

Uke steps forward with a right Zenpo keri. Tori move the
left so that he is on the outside of Ukes leg. Then with a
Sokugyaku, Tori kicks under Ukes leg to the groin. Tori then
drops down on the right foot, and applies a Shuki Ken to the
top of the thigh. Tori then strikes with a Ryote Shako Ken
to the Butsumetsu to knock Uke to the left.
NOTE
Master Sankenitto no Kiryukuken
SHIHO DORI - Four way capture
Kukishinden Ryu Dakentaijutsu. Shoden no kata.
Uke strikes with a right Jodan Tsuki, Tori does a left Jodan
Uke to the wrist. Uke then grabs Tori's collar with the left
hand. Toris left arm comes up in front of his body, and with
the right arm applies Oni Kudaki to the grabbing arm. Tori
then does Yoko Aruki to the left, and moves the right foot,
behind Ukes left leg. Then stepping back with the right leg,
and straightening Ukes arm, Tori bring Uke to the ground.
NOTE
For the take down walk in the direction his left leg
points.. If the Oni Kudaki fails change to Omote Gyaku, if
he tries to escape, change the technique to Yume Makura.
MOGURI NAGE - Diving capture
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. Moguri Gata.
Uke grabs the collar with the left hand, and does a right
Jodan Tsuki. Tori checks the grab, and does a left Jodan
Uke. Uke kicks with a right Zenpo Keri, Tori does a left
Gedan Uke. Tori then changes the grab from his right hand to
the left hand and applies a Ura Oni Kudaki on the left arm.
Tori then kicks with a heel kick to the back of Ukes left
thigh, and steps back, and down onto the right knee.
NOTE
Keep a good balance, do not get in a position where Uke can
punch you with his right hand.

KOKU - Empty sky


Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki.
Uke, and Tori are in Ichimonji no kamae. Uke strikes with
Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back to the right 45 degrees, and
blocks with a left Jodan Uke. Tori then does Ken Kudaki. Uke
follows with a right keri. Tori steps out to the left, and
does a right Keri Kaeshi. As Uke turns to his left Tori
steps in with the left foot, and does a left Shito Ken to
Butsumetsu.
NOTE
When Uke kicks, Tori can either steps to the left, and Keri
Kaeshi, or he can step to the left with Yoko Aruki, and kick
with either left or right foot.
RENYO - Giving a Ride
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki
Uke and Tori are both in Ichimonji no kamae. Uke strikes
with a Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back to the right 45 degrees,
and does a left Jodan Uke, followed by Ken Kudaki. Uke does
a right keri to Suigetsu. Tori does a right Keri Kaeshi. Uke
spins around from a result of the keri kaeshi, and comes
back to face Tori, and takes hold of his lapel with the
right hand. Tori steps back with the left foot, taking Ukes
hand in Ura Gyaku with the right hand. Tori applies the Ura
Gyaku so that Uke is bent over at the waist. Tori kicks up
to Ukes stomach with the right foot. As the foot comes back
to the ground Tori steps around Ukes arm, turning it in to
Omote Gyaku, and throwing Uke.
NOTE
This is a mix of Koku (the start), and two parts of the
Torite Kihon Gata). A good flow is needed to keep control of
Uke.
SAKA NAGARE (A.K.A Gyaku Nagare) - Reverse flow
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Jo Ryaku no Maki.
Both Uke, and Tori are in Ichimonji no kamae. Uke strikes
with a right Jodan Tsuki. Tori shifts to the left, and
blocks with a right Jodan Uke to the back of Ukes hand, and

promptly takes hold of the wrist with the right hand.. Uke
then kicks with the right foot, to Gorin. Tori does a keri
kaeshi, and changes the grip form the right to the left
hand. Uke then attempts to strike with a left Fudo Ken to
Suigetsu, Tori blocks with a right Gedan Uke, and then steps
in with a right Ura Shuto to Uko

KASASAGI - Magpie
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu. Chuden no Tai no Kata.
Uke steps forward with a right Jodan Tsuki. Tori steps back
to the left 45 degree, and strikes with a right Jodan Uke,
and takes hold of the wrist. Uke then does a right Zenpo
keri. Tori stops the kick by pulling down on the wrist. Tori
then does a right Keri Kaeshi to the out side of Ukes leg
(pull the hand down a little further). Tori then strikes
with a left Shikan ken to the right ribs. Tori lifts the arm
up, and steps under it clockwise, and applies an exaggerated
Omote Gyaku to pull Uke to the ground, or throw him on his
back with a flip.
KO (A.K.A. Hanetsurube)
Gyokko Ryu Kosshijutsu. Chu Ryaku no Maki.
Uke strikes with a Jodan Tsuki, Tori in a left Ichimonji no
kamae, steps to the right inside of Uke. Uke then does a
right keri,
Tori steps to the left and does Gedan Uke,
while pushing back Ukes left arm, and lowering the hand,
lifting his leg up while twisting his body to take Uke down.
SOTO - Hold and fall
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Okuden no kata.
Uke walks towards Tori. Tori applies Ryote Shako Ken to
Ryumon, and pushes down. As Ukes head comes close to Ukes
head, Tori strikes with Kikaku Ken to Men, and steps between
Ukes legs with the left foot. The right foot does Sokuyaku
Keri to Gorin. Tori then applies Tomoe Nage. Tori continues
the roll finishing astride Uke. Finish with Kikaku Ken.
NOTE
The final movement by Tori is called Futari Kaiten (two
person roll)

RANSETSU - Crazy snow


Koto Ryu Koppojutsu. Okuden no kata
Uke walks towards Tori. Tori steps right, and applies Ryote
Shako Ken to the Do. Tori then steps between Ukes legs with
both feet, and drops backwards pulling Uke with him. As they
fall Tori turns Uke to the left or the right. This is called
Nagasu (let flow).

MUTO DORI NO KATA


Unarmed defence against a blade
Train Muto Dori using all techniques with weapons. It's not
too much to say that Muto Dori is the basis of Taijutsu. By
mastering Muto Dori you can handle weapons, and you can the
be a sword, Bo, Yari, and Ku.
KEN NAGARE - Flowing Strike
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu.
Uke steps forward with a right hand Knife thrust (Chudan
Tsuki) to the stomach. Tori steps forward with his left
foot. Tori pivots on the left foot, turning clockwise, so he
is side on to the blade. Tori's left hand takes hold of Ukes
knife hand (wrist). Tori then strikes with a right Shikan
Ken to the back of Ukes knife hand, making him release the
grip. Tori then steps back with the left foot, and applies
an Omote Gyaku.
SOTO TONKO NO KATA
Practice form of the escaping Rat
Put a pocket inside your Gi jacket, and place Metsubushi
powders inside it. Place nine Senban Shuriken inside another
pocket. Then master Moku, Ka, Kin, Do, Sui. The secrets of
Goton no Tonkei, at the same time, become Ku, and master the
true Taijutsu. This is the secret of Bu. Realise the natural
movement. Become Ku yourself.
To successfully use the strategies of Heaven, Earth, and
mankind (Tenchijin), the Ninja must become one with all
things in the Universe, and embody the spirit of the

flowers, and the Bamboo. You must know when to bend with the
wind, and know their is no need too bend when their is no
wind. You must be able to become the void itself, in order
to master the secrets of using the scheme of totality, to
accomplish your will.
If you ask if their is truly such a thing as the fundamental
techniques of Ninjutsu, we will say No. If you ask if you
are practising the fundamentals correctly, we will tell you
their is no right, and no wrong way. These moves which we
call fundamental sare only a means
for the attainment of
the natural ever appropriate responsive movement that comes
with personal enlightenment.

Escape practice forms
Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu.
MIGI KATA UDE TONSO KATA - One hand escape practice form
Uke uses his right hand to grab Tori's right wrist. Tori,
and Uke, both go into Hachimonji no Kamae. Uke pulls Tori,
backwards three times in a shuffle step. On the second step,
Tori lifts Ukes hand up into Take Ori. On the third step
Tori, kicks Uke in the groin with the right foot, lifts Ukes
right arm up with the Take Ori, and turns under the arm anti
clockwise. Tori then throws (Katate Nage) Uke to the ground
by the wrist, and then scatters Metsubushi into his face.
Tori then escapes with Chi Tobi.
HIDARI KATA UDE TONSO KATA - Right - left escape practice
form
Uke grabs Toris left wrist with his right hand. Both then
move into Hachimonji no kamae. Uke then pulls Tori with
three short shuffle steps. On the second step, Tori moves
his hand so that he hold Ukes wrist. On the third step Tori
lifts Ukes grabbing hand up in Take Ori. Tori grabs Ukes
right shoulder with his right hand, kicks to the groin with

his right foot, and stepping straight back drops to his


right knee, bringing Uke with him. Tori then scatters
Metsubushi, and escapes with Chi Tobi.
MIGI TE KUBISUGI TONSO KATA - Rear escape practice form
Uke is behind Tori, and grabs the back of his collar with
the right hand. Uke the pulls Tori back with three short
shuffle steps. On the third step, grabs Ukes right hand with
his right hand. Tori drops his body weight, turns to the
left, and strikes Uke in Butsumetsu with a left Shuki ken.
The left hand the takes hold of Ukes bicep, and the right
hand lifts Ukes right hand from the collar. With a rolling
motion of the left hand (Ura Gyaku) Tori throws Uke. Tori
the scatters Metsubushi, and escapes with Chi Tobi.
ATEKOMI TONSO KATA - Strike, and escape practice form
Uke has a Katana in Daijodan, and cuts with Jodan Kiri. Tori
is in Doko no kamae. As the sword comes down, Tori rushes in
under the sword, and strikes with Boshi ken to Gorin. Tori
then leaps back to the left and escapes with Ukemi.

KOTE UCHI TONSO KATA - Arm strike escape practice form


Uke is in Daijodan, and cuts with Jodan Kiri. Tori is in
Doko no kamae, and moves to the left, and strikes down with
a right Shuto to the top of Ukes right forearm. As Uke drops
the sword, Tori turns the hips to the left, and strikes with
a left Shikan Ken to Butsumetsu (drops to the left knee).
Tori then rises and moves to the right so that he faces Uke
on the right side, and scatters Metsubushi. Tori then
escapes.

MIGI UCHI TONSO GATA - Right strike escape practice form
Tori is in Happogakure no kamae. Uke is in Chudan no kamae,
and strikes with Chudan Tsuki. Tori shifts to the right,
brings the left hand down, and grabs the handle of the
sword. The right hand follows, and strikes with Shuto to
Ukes left forearm. Tori pulls the Katana away from Uke, Tori

then jumps backwards, takes the Metsubushi, and scatters it


in Ukes face and escapes.
SAYU KUMOGAKURE KATA - Two handed cloud form
Two Uke face Tori in Daijodan. Tori is in front of them with
Metsubushi in each hand. As the Uke prepare to move in, Tori
lifts his hands above his head, steps forward, and throws
the Metsubushi into the their faces. As he throws the
Metsubushi, Tori drops low, and passes between the Uke,
striking them both in Butsumetsu with Boshi Ken. Tori then
does Ukemi, and escapes.
KOSEI KIRIGAKURE KATA - Attacking fog form
Several Uke surround Tori with the Katana held high, or in
Chudan no kamae. Tori assumes Tonso no kamae. Then turning
randomly to each Uke, Tori scatters several Metsubushi in
all directions to develop a screen. Then Tori starts to
throw Shuriken at the startled Uke, and escapes in the
confusion
HAPPO KIRIGAKURE KATA - Disappearing into the fog in all
directions
When Tori is surrounded by many Uke, he throws Shuriken to
the front then Metsubushi to the rear. Tori then drops to
one knee, and throw Shuriken in all directions, and escapes
using Ukemi.
