The SFJAZZ fest is one of the most reliably
exciting festivals I've come across in this
country. The variety of talent that comes to
the Bay Area from across the Bay and
across the globe is astounding. When I first
picked up the brochure for the 2010 Spring
Season, my jaw dropped: Joshua Redman,
Bobby McFerrin, Keith Jarrett, Dianne
Reeves, Ladysmith Black Mambazo... the list
just goes on and on.
There are festivals like the New Orleans
Jazz & Heritage Festival where the word
"jazz" seems like it's either a guide for
picking music or a remnant of another era.
SFJAZZ is both. I would say that music in
the jazz idiom is in the majority of SFJAZZ
performances, but the idea of "jazz" has
the 2010 SFJAZZ Spring season will blow you away!

Baobab. Their story is just as inspiring as
their music. Their performance a last year's SFJAZZ Fest was nothing short of a fabulous good time 'Live With Regis & Kelly' bores viewers with long
as folks (like me!) danced away in the aisles. Be on the lookout for an upside down played bass segment on Regis learning how to use a

February 26 Joshua Redman - The Boston Herald said that Redman "ranks with the best

this case, he will be playing a solo show at Grace Cathedral. Now, seriously, this is a combination Woman admits affair with 'playboy' Cleveland-

May 30 Kurt Elling with the Count Basie Orchestra - I've seen the Count Basie Orchestra twice
now. Once about ten years ago in Ann Arbor Michigan and once just last month in San Diego. Both Related Slideshows
times they brought the house down, and most of these guys are over 50! Kurt Elling I heard about
in Australia of all places and will bring it Sinatra style. This is going to be an incredible show. Watch LATEST SLIDESHOW MORE

June 12 Salif Keita - Keita is just one of the many musical talents coming from Mali (what's in the
water there?). There is nothing I can say about this music other than Keita is the absolute height of
Afropop. SFJAZZ is pulling out the stops for this show and whipping out the dance floor. Perfect.
