Heat Treating is the controlled heating and cooling of metals to alter their physical
and mechanical properties without changing the product shape. It is often associated
with increasing the strength of material, but it can also be used to alter certain
manufacturability objectives such as improving machining and formability, or restoring
after a cold working operation.

Electrical Resistance Heat Treating Capabilities

Traditional low-voltage Electrical Resistance heat treating uses ceramic blankets stepped
down to 80 volts to provide a quick and convenient approach to many jobs, particularly
preheat and post-weld heat treatment. Most electrical resistance heat treating is performed
either with the Team Sixway control console or the Team 18-way mobile rig.
Welding Preheat
Advanced automated systems control and document welding
preheat to reduce thermal stress in three primary ways. First,
it drives off moisture that would release hydrogen that could
penetrate the steel and cause porosity and subsequent
cracking. Second, it reduces heat loss to the surrounding
metal, minimizing the rate of weld hardening and allowing
hydrogen that is present to escape. And finally, it improves the
microstructure and durability of the heat-affected zone.
Post-weld Heat Treatment
Carefully controlled PWHT is a crucial step in maximizing
the life of your process equipment. PWHT tempers the
metal and reduces tensile stresses, minimizing the risk of
brittle fracture, stress and corrosion cracking and metal
fatigue. This is especially important for equipment used
in harsh service environments. Our engineers ensure the
structural integrity of the vessel or unit during treatment,
and Teams advanced Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
and wireless control technology achieves the precise control
needed to get the maximum benefit from the treatment.
Line Thawing and Melt-out
Teams electrical resistance heating gets frozen lines flowing
again quickly, and keeps them flowing until your plants steam
tracing system is working again. For foundries that lose a heat
source, our combustion services can melt out anything from
zinc to steel, 800F (427C) to 3,000F (1,649C).
Hydrogen Removal
We can improve the integrity of welded components and
minimize the risk of fabrication-related cracking. Used prior
to cutting or welding older process equipment, our hydrogen
removal technology can help protect equipment during
cutting and welding as well as improve the quality of the
finished work.

Heat Treatment (Annealing and Normalizing)

We offer a range of services for annealing and
normalizing to alter the properties of metals that may
or may not contain welds.
Decontamination
Electrical resistance heating has been
successfully utilized to decontaminate storage
tanks that once held toxic agents. The heating
process drives residual chemical agents off the
tank walls so they can be collected, and
the tanks can be dismantled.

Combustion Heat Treating Capabilities

Most heat treatment processes require accurate control of the material temperature. With the advent
of fast acting combustion burners and burner control systems it is easy to implement very responsive
cascade control to the furnace.

Teams burners are specifically designed to deliver the

exact amount of heat required depending on the job
specifications. Commonly, this ranges from 1 to 10 million
BTUs (nozzle size from 2 to 8 inches, 51 to 203 mm).
We also have burners that will deliver an astonishing 100
million BTUs. In addition to multiple safety interlocks and
redundancies, these systems feature a turndown ratio of
100:1, which allows our technicians to vary heat output
from candle intensity to full blast in increments as small as
1F/hour. Output from 20HP blowers varies from 500 CFH
to 168,000 CFH to ensure that heat is distributed evenly
regardless of a vessels geometry.
Our engineers ensure the
structural integrity of the vessel or unit during treatment,
and the companys advanced PLC and wireless control
technology achieves the precise control needed to get the
maximum benefit from the treatment.
Refractory Dry Out
The secret to long refractory life is a professional dry out using
our high-velocity combustion systems to ensure that every
inch of your refractory is heated under control as tight as
1/hour. Our dry outs (1) are designed to completely remove
both free and chemically held water to minimize spalling and
cracking, (2) prevent formation of thermal stresses that could
weaken the refractory, (3) minimize the potential for slip plane
and (4) assure cross-sectional ceramic bonding for exceptional
refractory campaign life. We also perform controlled heat-ups
and shutdowns that can further extend refractory life.

Induction Heat Treating Capabilities

Teams induction heating systems use a coil wrapped around the object to create an electromagnetic field that generates heat within the object. These systems provide quick heating,
fast setup and teardown, the safety of cool coils, efficient power consumption and narrowly
focused heat. They are ideal for line thaws and preheats, expansion/shrink fitting, bolt stretching,
nut heating and PWHT for single large components.
Turbine Rotor De-Stacks
Quickly and safely heat rotor hubs to remove disks
from shaft. No need to use gas rings or electrical
resistance heaters.
Retaining Ring Removal
Removal of generator retaining rings and other
shrink fit components.
Heating of Rotating Parts
Pre-Heating and PWHT of rotating components, such
as turbine shafts, can be heated inside an induction
coil and monitored with wireless thermocouples.
Turbine Bolt Heating
De-tensioning and tensioning of turbine bolts. Typical
heating time is two to eight minutes per bolt, resulting
in significant time savings for client.
Hydrogen Removal
We can improve the integrity of welded components
and minimize the risk of fabrication-related cracking.
Used prior to cutting or welding older process
equipment, our hydrogen removal technology can
help protect equipment during cutting and welding
as well as improve the quality of the finished work.
High Temperature Heat Treatment
(Annealing and Normalizing)
We offer a range of services for annealing and
normalizing to alter the properties of metals that may
or may not contain welds. Induction heating negates
the need to remove hot electrical resistance heaters
from the work piece at high temperatures.

Line Thaws
Induction cables up to 240 feet in length can be used for
line thaws. No need to remove insulation from the line as
the coil is placed over the insulation. This reduces set up
time and provides a substantial cost saving.
Exchanger Bundle Pulls
Quick and easy set up assists with the expansion of
the exchanger body to allow the bundle to be pulled
from the exchanger.
Nut Heating
Fast heating of nuts on hydro-cracker flanges, reactors,
and exchanger heads allow for quick dismantling of
components. Typical heating time is 30 seconds to two
minutes per nut. This application helps to eliminate bolt
thread damage.
