Comments on TDBFP-A ATRS Turbine Control Logics

1. Comments on ATRS Turbine Control Start Sequence

a) All the comments and observations furnished below are inline with
ATRS LOGIC DIAGRAM (SGC BFPDT TURBINE SYSTEM), DOC. NO. 3312-00-51447.
b) Alarm logics set points with NOT function shall be used for start
permissives instead of trip logics set points (except in no (NOT)
turbine trip logic). Start permissive shall only be available if no
alarm is present in addition to no trip.
c) Condenser pressure and turbine exhaust pressure set point and
transmitter range (in transmitter as well as DCS) shall be checked.
Special attention may please be paid to type of pressure range and
set point i.e. gauge pressure or absolute pressure.
d) Step 2, Step 12 and Step 27
Gland steam pressure set point for start permissive shall be
500 mmWC instead of 0.1 KSC.
The tag no. of the gland steam header pressure transmitter
shall be corrected as MTW70 CP156 instead of MTW60 CP156.
e) Step 3, Step 5, Step 6, Step 11, Step 14, Step 17, Step 18, Step 25,
Step 30 and Step 40 Steam parameters must be ensured before
permitting steam in BFP drive turbine. All the temperature elements
and pressure transmitters required for the same have not been
provided by BHEL. However the parameters are available at the
following locations. Additionally the tag nos. of the instruments
indicated in the logics in DCS are not inline with the approved P&ID
and instruments schedule.

f) Step 08 and Step 13 Gland steam header drain valve has been
configured as MTL04 AA257 instead of MTL03 AA256.
g) Step 10, Step 22, Step 23 and Step 30 Condenser pressure set
point shall be corrected as 0.6 KSC instead of 0.5 KSC. The range of
MAG10 CP005 has been configured as 0-0.4 KSC (ABS). BHEL to
check and correct/clarify.
h) Step 16 LCM30 AA003 has been configured in the logic instead of
block valve.
i) Step 18
IP steam parameters have been configured instead of
auxiliary steam parameters in this logic.
CRH steam block valve and auxiliary steam block valve logic
shall also be configured in this step.
j) Step 19, Step 22, Step 30 and Step 40 Deaerator level adequate
logic shall be derived/configured from level transmitters instead of
level switches.
k) Step 22
Turbine trip logic of step 22 has been configured in step 23.
Condenser pressure set point shall be corrected in the logic
inline with ATRS logics.
Set points for bearing temperatures have been incorrectly
configured and they shall be corrected.
XAD11 CT001D shall be configured for turbine bearing
temperature high logic instead of XAD12 CT001D (to be
corrected in step 23 also)

TDBFP-A feedwater suction and discharge temperature

element tag nos. shall be checked and confirmed.
l) Step 23
FW suction and discharge temperature differential logic shall
be configured as a part of turbine trip logic.
Axial displacement has been configured twice in this logic
and incorrect set point i.e. 0.5 has been configured in step
#10.
Exhaust pressure set point shall be corrected as -0.6 KSC(A),
BHEL may further note that there is no clarity on using
absolute and gauge for vacuum applications. Gauge(normally
negative value) or absolute (normally positive ) pressure, only
one common system shall be followed and they should not be
used interchangeably.
m) Step 30
Tag no. of BFP barrel top and botton temperature elements
shall be checked and corrected.
BFPDT-A auxiliary steam block valve tag no. shall be checked
and corrected/confirmed.
n) Step 30 and Step 32
Set point for gear box bearing temperature XKD14 CT001I,
XKD13 CT001H, XKD13 CT001G, XKD13 CT001F, XKD12
CT001J and XKD11 CT001F shall be corrected as 80 OC for
start up.
Set point for turbine bearing temperature XAD12 CT001A,
XAD12 CT001B, XAD12 CT001C and XAD12 CT001D shall be
corrected as 100 OC for start up.
o) Step 32 and Step 23 BFP discharge pressure has been configured
from pressure switch. There are no pressure switches provided for
this application. The signal may be derived from transmitters.
p) Step 32 and Step 40
TDBFP-A discharge pressure transmitter reference shall be
checked and corrected. Set point of the transmitter shall also
be corrected.
Gear box FJB and RJB vibration not high set point shall be 46
instead of 50.
XKD11 CY041A has been configured for both X and Y axis
vibration of gearbox RJB vibration.
Casing expansion set point has been configured as 1.0
instead of not 5.0.
Differential expansion set point has been configured as 2.5
instead of 2.6.
Eccentricity and key phasor sensors have been configured on
same OR function block.
q) Step 40
TDBFP-A discharge pressure set point has been configured as
20 KSC instead of 40 KSC. Incorrect transmitter has been
configured for this logic.
Absolute function shall be configured for this logic axial shift
logic.

1XKD11 CY041A has been configured for both X and Y axis

vibration of BFPDT-A GB I/P. Set point shall also be corrected
as 46 instead of 50.
Set point of BFPDT-A GB O/P vibration shall also be corrected
