The energy industry welcomed the governments resolve, saying jobs and investment would go if politicians caved in to the vocal protest movement. However, doubts remain about current and future projects as Territory Labor has backed calls for a moratorium until appropriate environmental oversights are established.
This contradicts the findings of an independent
report by respected former public servant Allan Hawke, who dismissed the need for a moratorium and found the environmental risks associated with hydraulic fracturing can be managed effectively subject to the creation of a robust regulatory regime. CONTINUED PAGE 7
