2. Position Purpose
To provide direction on Department Welding related activities within TE. The
manager will play a key role in management and facilitation of Welding Department
activities for all areas so as to ensure maximum benefits of the project/initiatives
and the implementation plans. This role will focus on providing support services for
input to manufacturing projects, design welds, specifying the correct consumables,
qualification of welding procedures, providing technical guidance during prototype
build as well as inline inspections, failure investigations and repair procedures

3. Position Outputs
OUTPUTS
Have final decision on all welding and inspection and testing related issues. Have
authority to hold or suspend any production process or section until it can be
performed according to the agreed standards or safely
Manage the welding and inspection personnel at the Durban site
Allocate tasks and responsibilities to the welding coordination team
Approve pWPSs0 compiled by welding inspection personnel
Compile WPQRs with all supporting documents and indicate ranges of qualification
for the essential variables
Approve WPQC (Welder Performance Qualification Certificate/Record) compiled
by welding inspection personnel
Ensure availability of resources for safe and effective execution of set tasks
Give advice on weld design changes on prototypes
Lead and participate in technical reviews
Ensure all sub-contracted parties comply with set standards via planned audits. Have
the authority to terminate non-compliant contractors
Interact with customers
QMS management
Development of weld maps, sequences and process amendments as well as
implementing these in production
Approval of equipment, consumables and machinery to be used for production
Approval of prototypes

4. Position Challenges
XX is key for Transnet to deliver its objectives and still requires significant
collaborative efforts with operating divisions, which is likely, receive resistance.
Transnet is also in the process of wide scale transformation with numerous initiatives
resulting in change fatigue. The interests and needs of very diverse stakeholder
groups across the board will need to be carefully managed with very clear business
case definition, tracking and reporting to ensure successful sustainable change

5. Decision Making
The Incumbent can make decisions with regards to change initiatives and, benefits
tracking plans relating to XX supported by the ABC Executive Manager
The Incumbent decision-making powers will be in line with the Senior Managers area
of responsibility
