CATERPILLAR FOL GENERAL WARRANTY
1. The Heavy Types I and II Loaders a re covered by a com plete warranty package as described in Table 1. This
package contains inform ation on ove rall machine, ground en gaging t ools, battery, and en gine s pecific
warranties provided by Caterpillar, along with warranty information for the tires.
ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION
1. Machine Registration. The date of the handoff to the unit will be the warranty start date. Caterpillar will then
enter the warranty start date for each machine into t he Caterpillar Warranty Database. Entry of the warranty
start d ate activates th e cov erage for each machine an d allows an y Cat erpillar dealer worldwide to view t he
specific Heavy Types I and II Loaders warranty coverage. This data is accessed by Caterpillar machine serial
number.
2. Warranty Questions. Any questions regarding warranty coverage should be directed to Caterpillar, Defense
and Fed eral Pro ducts at (309) 578 -3295 or Caterpillar Operator at (3 09) 67 5-1000 and ask for Defense and
Federal Products.
3. To Obtain Warranty Service.
a. Caterpillar Warranty

dealer for analysis or providing for dealer travel to the machine for analysis.

warranty.
(a) If th e required rep air is not co vered b y warranty, th e dealer will con tact th e un it for fu rther
instructions and th e un it wil l b e respon sible for dealer e xpenses inc urred during m achine
analysis.

(b) If th e required rep air is cov ered by warranty, th e d ealer will make th e rep airs and su bmit
claims to Caterpillar for reimbursement.
(3) The owning unit will b e responsible for transporting the machine to the local Caterpillar Dealer or
paying the Caterpillar Dealer Travel time and mileage expenses to get the service technician to the
machine.
4. Caterpillar Responsibilities. If a de fect i n m aterial or wo rkmanship i s fo und d uring t he warranty peri od,
Caterpillar will, during normal working hours and at a place of busine ss of a Caterpillar dealer or othe r source
approved by Caterpillar:
a. Provide (at Caterpillar’s choice) new, remanufactured, or Caterpillar-approved repaired parts or assembled
components needed to c orrect the de fect. Item s replaced under this warranty becom e the property of
Caterpillar.
b. Replace lubricating oil, filters, antifreeze, and other service items made unusable by the defect.
c. Provide reasonable and customary labor needed to correct the defect.
5. User Responsibilities.
a. Labor costs, except as stated under “Caterpillar Responsibilities”.
b. Local taxes, if applicable.
c. Parts shipping charged in excess of those which are usual and customary.
d. Costs to inv estigate co mplaints, un less the p roblem is cau sed b y a defect in Caterp illar m aterial o r
workmanship.
e. Performance o f th e requ ired main tenance (i ncluding us e of pr oper fuel, oil, lu bricants and c oolant) a nd
replacement of items due to normal wear and tear.
6. Limitations.
Caterpillar is not responsible for failures resulting from:
a. Any use or installation that Caterpillar judges improper.
b. Attachments, accessory items, and parts not sold or approved by Caterpillar.
c. Abuse, neglect, and/or improper repair.
d. User's delay in making the product available after being notified of a potential product problem.
e. Unauthorized repair or adjustments, and unauthorized fuel setting changes.
f. Breakage of Gr ound Engaging To ols (G ET) du e to worn mating components or those that ha ve b een
hardfaced or improperly welded.
g. Remedies u nder th is warran ty are li mited t o p roviding parts an d labor as stated ab ove. Caterp illar is not
responsible for incidental or consequential damages.

BATTERY WARRANTY
1. General. The battery is covered by 3 year warranty by Caterpillar Inc.
2. To Obtain Warranty Service. To obtain warranty service on the battery, follow procedures outlined above in
Administrative Information.
3. Specific Warranty Information.
a. Caterpillar will replace t he battery which it finds t o be defective in m aterial or workm anship with a new
battery at the following cost to the user:
(1) For the first 12 months from machine warranty start date there is no charge to the user.
(2) After 12 months from machine warranty start date, user cost is determined by the following formula:

CATERPILLAR EMISSIONS WARRANTY
EMISSIONS WARRANTY
NOTE

1. General.
a. Caterpillar In c. or an y of it s sub sidiaries ("Caterpillar") warran ts t hat certified nonroad diesel eng ine
(powering mobile machinery) are:
(1) Designed, built, and equipped so as to conform, at the time of sale, with all applicable regulations
adopted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
(2) Free from defects in materials and workmanship in specific emission-related parts for a period of
60 months, o r 3,000 hours of ope ration, w hichever occ urs fi rst, aft er t he dat e of delivery t o t he
first user.
b. If an em ission-related part fai ls during the warranty period, it will be re paired, or repl aced. Any suc h part
repaired or replaced under warranty is warranted for the remainder of the warranty period.
c. The engine is certified if it h as a sp ecial certification label. A Caterp illar dealer can also inform you if th e
engine is certified.
d. During th e term o f th is warran ty, Caterp illar will p rovide, th rough a Caterp illar d ealer o r other sou rce
approved by it, repair or replacement of any warranted part at no charge.
e. In an emergency, rep airs may b e p erformed at an y se rvice estab lishment, o r b y th e user. Caterp illar will
reimburse t he user for t heir expe nses, i ncluding diagnostic charge s f or suc h em ergency re pair. T hese
expenses shall not excee d C aterpillar's suggested reta il price for all warra nted parts replaced, a nd labor
charges based on Caterpillar's recommended time allowance for the warran ty repair and the geographically
appropriate hourly labor rate.
f. A p art n ot being av ailable with in 30 d ays or a rep air not b eing co mplete with in 30 days co nstitutes an
emergency.
g. As a condition of reim bursement, replaced parts and va lidated invoices must be presented at a place of
business of a Caterpillar dealer or other source approved by Caterpillar.
2. Responsibilities and Limitations. The warranty is subject to the following:
a. Caterpillar Responsibilities. During the emission warranty period, if a defect in material or workmanship
of an emission-related part or component is found, Caterpillar will provide:
(1) New, remanufactured, or repaired parts and/or components, approved pursuant to EPA Regulations,
required to correct the defect.
(2) Note: Items replaced under warranty become the property of Caterpillar.
(3) Reasonable or customary labor, during normal working hours, needed to correct the defect, including
labor for removal and installation when necessary to make the repair.

b. User Responsibilities. During the emission warranty period, the user is responsible for:
(1) Providing proof of the delivery date to the first user.
(2) Premium or overtime labor costs.
(3) Costs to inv estigate co mplaints wh ich are n ot ca used b y a d efect in Caterp illar m aterial o r
workmanship.
(4) Providing t imely not ice or a warr antable fai lure a nd promptly making t he p roduct avai lable fo r
repair.
(5) Performance of the required maintenance and use of proper fuel, oil, lubricants and coolant.
(6) Maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control devices a nd systems may be performed
by any nonroad engine repair establishment or individual using certified nonroad engine parts.
3. Limitations.
a. Caterpillar is not res ponsible for res ultant dam ages to a n em ission-related part of c omponent re sulting
from:
(1) Any use or installation which Caterpillar judges improper.
(2) Attachments, accessory items and parts not sold or approved by Caterpillar.
(3) Abuse, neglect and/or improper engine repair.
(4) User's delay in making the product available after being notified of a potential product problem.
(5) Unauthorized repair or adjustments and unauthorized fuel setting changes.
b. This warranty is in add ition to Caterp illar's stand ard warranty, ap plicable to th e nonroad d iesel en gine
product involved.
c. NEITHER T HE FOREGOING EXPRESS WARRA NTY NOR AN Y OT HER W ARRANTY BY
CATERPILLAR, EXPRESS OR IMP LIED, IS APPLICABLE TO ANY ITEM C ATERPILLAR SE LLS
WHICH IS WARRANTED DIRECTLY TO THE USER BY ITS MANUFACTURER.
d. THIS WARRANTY IS EX PRESSLY IN LIE U OF A NY OT HER WARRANTIES, E XPRESS O R
IMPLIED, INCLUDING A NY WARRANTY OF M ERCHANTABILITY OR F ITNESS F OR A
PARTICULAR PURP OSE. REME DIES UNDER T HIS WARRANTY ARE L IMITED TO THE
PROVISION OF MATERIAL AN D SE RVICES, AS SPECIF IED H EREIN. CATERPILLAR IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.
4. Maintenance Recommendations.
a. Some Caterp illar no nroad diesel eng ines are
certified by th e United St ates Env ironmental
Protection Agency (EPA) to co mply with sm oke
and gase ous em ission standards presc ribed by
Federal laws at the time of manufacture.
b. The engine i s certified if it has a s pecial
certification lab el. Two ty pes of l abels t hat are
used b y Caterp illar are illu strated. A Caterp illar
dealer can al so inform you if the engine is
certified.
c. Efficiency of em ission cont rol an d engine
performance depe nds o n a dherence t o pr oper
operation an d m aintenance recom mendations
AND use of recommende d fuels and lubri cating
oils. It i s recom mended t hat major ad justments
and repair be made b y you r au thorized C aterpillar
dealer.

d. Various ch emical fu el ad ditives, wh ich clai m to red uce v isible s moke, are av ailable co mmercially.
Although additives have been used by individuals to solve some isolated smoke problems in the field, they
are not recommended for general use. Federal smoke regulations require that engines be certified without
smoke depressants.
e. The corrective steps taken immediately upon discovery of worn parts, which may affect emission levels,
will h elp assure proper op eration of em ission con trol sy stems. Th e u se of genuine Caterpillar parts is
recommended. Suppliers of non-Caterpillar parts must assure the owner that the use of su ch parts will not
adversely affect emission levels.
f. Regular maintenance intervals, along with special em phasis on the following item s, are necessary to keep
exhaust emissions within acceptable limits for the useful life of the engine. If the engine is operating under
severe conditions, adjust the maintenance schedule accordingly.
g. See your authorized Caterpillar dealer to help analyze your specific application, operating environment and
maintenance schedule adjustments.
h. The following is an explanation of maintenance for emission-related components.
(1) Fuel Injectors or Nozzles. Fuel injectors or nozzles are subject t o tip wear as a resu lt of fu el
contamination. This dam age can cause an i ncrease in f uel con sumption, t he en gine t o em it bl ack
smoke, misfire or run rough. Inspect, test, and replace if necessary. Fuel injectors can be tested by an
authorized Caterpillar dealer.
(2) Turbocharger. Check fo r any u nusual so und or vibration in th e t urbocharger. Inspect in let an d
exhaust piping and connections.
(3) Air/fuel Ratio Control.
(a) This com ponent i s a devi ce t o cont rol t he bl ack sm oke em ission of an en gine d uring i ts
operation when low inlet manifold pressure exists.
(b) Slow e ngine r esponse a nd l ow power m ay i ndicate a need f or a djustment or re pair. Yo ur
Caterpillar d ealer eq uipped with th e n ecessary t ools, personnel, an d procedures to p erform
this service.
(c) The owner is encourage d to keep adequate maintenance records, but the absence of such, in
and of itself will not invalidate the warranty.
(d) The m achine or e quipment ow ner m ay perform rout ine m aintenance, re pairs a nd ot her
non-warranty work or have it done at any repair facility. Such non-warranty work need not be
performed at a designated warranty station in order for the warranty to remain in force.
5. Customer Assistance - Emission Control Systems Warranty.
a. Caterpillar Inc. aims to ensure that the Emission Control System warranty is p roperly administered. In th e
event that you do not receive the warranty service to which you believe you are entitled under the Emission
Control System s W arranty, call o r write: Caterp illar, Manager of Warranty System s, Peoria, IL 61629-
1250; (309) 675-4037.

b. Authorized dealers are recommended for major m aintenance an d re pair work as the y are staffed with
trained personnel, proper tools and a re aware of the latest maintenance methods and procedures. Owners
and others w ho desi re perform their ow n wo rk s hould p urchase a Ser vice M anual a nd obtain c urrent
service information from their Caterpillar dealer.
EMISSION CONTROL WARRANTY FOR CALIFORNIA
1. Owner Warranty Rights and Obligations.
a. The Californ ia Air Resources Bo ard (C ARB) and Caterp illar are please d to e xplain the emission co ntrol
system warranty on your 2000 or later certified heavy-duty off-road diesel engine. The engine is certified if
it has a sp ecial certification label. Two types of labels that are u sed by Caterpillar are sh own on previous
pages. A Caterpillar dealer can also inform you if the engine is certified.
b. In Califo rnia, new h eavy duty o ff-road diesel en gines must b e designed, bu ilt, and equip ped to m eet the
state's stringent anti-smog standards. Caterpillar must warrant the emission control system o n your engine
for the duration of time listed below provided there has been no abuse, neglect, or improper maintenance
on your engine.
c. Your emission control system may include parts such as the fuel injection system, air induction system, and
engine computer, if equipped. Also included may be hoses, connectors, clamps, and other emission-related
components.
d. Where a warran table con dition ex ists, Caterp illar will rep air th e h eavy du ty o ff-road d iesel en gine at n o
cost to the owner including diagnosis, parts, and labor.
2. Manufacturer's Warranty Coverage.
a. The emissions warranty period for new heavy duty off-road diesel engines is a du ration of 60 months, or
3,000 hours of operation, whichever occurs first after date of delivery to the initial owner.
b. If an emission-related part or component on your diesel engine is defective, the part or component will be
repaired, or replaced by Caterpillar. This is your emission control system WARRANTY.
c. This warranty covers the following emission-related parts and components:
(1) Charge Air Cooling System (if equipped)
(2) Fuel Injection System
(3) Intake Manifold
(4) Exhaust Manifold
(5) Turbocharger System
(6) Air-Fuel Ratio Control System
(7) Electronic Control Module including Sensors and Personality Module (if equipped)
(8) Miscellaneous hoses, clamps, connectors and sealing devices used in the above systems.
d. Any replacement part may be used for maintenance or repairs. The owner should ensure that such parts are
equivalent in design and durability to genuine Caterpillar parts. Use of non-genuine Caterpillar parts does
not inv alidate the warran ty. Howev er, Caterp illar is no t liab le fo r parts th at are no t gen uine Caterp illar
parts.
3. Owner's Warranty Responsibilities.
a. As the heavy-duty off-road diesel engine owner, you are responsible for the performance of the required
maintenance li sted in t he owner's m anual (Op eration an d Main tenance Manual). Caterp illar recommends
that you retain records covering the maintenance on your engine, but cannot deny warranty solely for lack
of receipts and records for failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled maintenance.
b. As the heavy duty off-road diesel engine owner, you should also be aware th at Caterpillar may deny you
warranty coverage if your heavy duty off-road diesel engine, or an emission components, or part has failed
due to abuse, neglect, improper maintenance or unapproved modifications.
c. Your engine is designed to operate on commercial diesel fuel only. Use of any other fuel may result in your
engine no longer operating in compliance with California's emission requirements.
d. You are respon sible for contactin g you r C aterpillar d ealer as so on as any eng ine problem ex ists. Th e
warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 30 days.
