Introduction
This document outlines the proposed training for the X-Rite i1 Process Control solution which is provided with the
imagePRESS Colour range of devices.
The aim of this document is to provide the user with a step-by-step process to using the i1 Process Control
software and all of its features.
About Process Control
The i1 Process Control system provides colour management and verification for Canon imagePRESS devices, using
LAB and spectral formats. This system allows you to:
Profile Canon imagePRESS Devices to ensure that the product prints colour reliably and to the expectations of
the customer
Evaluate imagePRESS print device performance over time ensuring that it prints to customer expectations
Create libraries of spot colours, and generate simulation recipes for use in DTP applications and your Canon
RIP.
The process control solution is based on both X-Rite/GretagMacbeth software and hardware components, with the
newest printer generation from Canon called imagePRESS.
Although the software part of the solution needs to include very advanced profiling features, verification and
optimisation algorithms, the main goal for the solution is to provide an easy and intuitive application that the user
will want to work with on a daily basis without any causing any frustration or problems.
This solution shall emphasize the important role of Canons new printer generation in the Pre-Press markets to
deliver consistent colour and extremely reliable digital proofs. In order to meet this goal, the solution will provide
the following important fundamental areas:
Simulation
Verification
Monitor
Printer
(CMYK)
The software is navigated by using the menu items at the top of the window:
NOTE: All of the settings outlined in this document are correct at the time of writing. Please note that the settings may
change if there are system or firmware updates on the devices and controllers.
Find the install folder for the Eye-One Process Control application. As default it can be found in the
Applications folder on the hard drive
Open the Eye-One Process Control folder and select the file
that launches the application, do not launch the app, just
highlight the file
When you have selected the file click on the Action Menu
and select Show Package Contents
With the package contents on view scroll down the list until
you come to the Library folder
In the library folder you will find the custom palettes the user
has created. Copy the custom palettes to the desktop of the
Mac and close any open windows you have
After you have installed the new version of software: open the following folder:
Users\<username>\Documents\i1PC_Resources\library and place the copied custom palettes inside. The
Palettes will now be available to you in i1PC v2
For the license agreement select 'i accept the terms .' and
click 'Next'
Install destination:
Ideally leave this as the default, If you are Installing the Process
Control software on to the Fiery Controller then install the
software on to the D:drive and click 'Next'
Installation Complete:
When the installation has finished you need to re-start the
computer
You will receive a message stating you are running in Demo mode
and you need to register. Click on OK
Choose your display type and the settings you want to adjust
during the creation of your display profile and click the Profile

36
The i1 Process Control tool is designed to allow measurement and comparison against the FOGRA Standard or to create
output profiles. There are no guarantees the FOGRA Verification will pass every time, but following the guidelines above
should allow close comparisons with positive results.
There is reference data in the software for 2 Fogra standards:
Fogra27 using EuropeISOCoatedFOGRA27.Icc as the CMYK simulation (please note Fogra27 has been replaced as a
standard with Fogra39)
Fogra39 Using ISOCoated_v2_eci.icc as the CMYK simulation
This Verification has to be carried out on specific media that uses a white point that conforms to the relevant Fogra
standard, or use the Paper Simulation option in Color Setup which is outlined in next section of this document.
Before Carrying out this process you must create an output profile on the media required for this Verification
Also please note that if the verification is successful it does not mean the device you are working on is Fogra
Certified, it just means that you can simulate the Fogra standard you have selected.
37
For a default install of i1 Process Control the wedge can be found in the following location:
PC: C:\Program Files\i1 Process Control v2.0\Targets\Fogra Media Wedge
Mac: Applications\i1 Process Control v2.0\Targets\fogra Media Wedge
In the job properties you need to make sure you have the
correct settings under the Media tab.

To view the report, browse to where you saved the report and
double-click the 'Report.html file and the report will be opened in
your web browser
41
Before carrying out the 'Correct Profile' process you must print the media wedge using the CMYK simulation
settings you are trying to verify against (please refer to the relevant section of this document for information on
printing the media wedge)
If you are correcting a profile due to drift, you need to print the media wedge using the same custom output
profile and print settings you used when you previously had a successful verification
Output Profile - the custom profile you are using for output
Source - your simulation profile you have selected on the
controller.
Click 'Save'
You should use the new profile as your output on the controller and re-print the wedge and measure again.
42
In the Color Workflow set-up make sure the option for Paper Simulation is ticked
*The paper simulation option is only available when the color set-up is accessed via the print job properties

The palette function in Process Control allows a user to check the ability of the device by comparing the spot colours in a
PANTONE or user created palette, to how your device will produce them when using the ICC profile you have created.
You can then export the Library as a 'Named Color Profile' for use on your EFi controller or export it as a 'Swatch' for use
within Adobe applications.
This process is outlined in this section of the document
45
Then select the output profile you are using on your EFi
controller.
2
The library will build and show the original color (top)
and the color based on the output profile you have
selected (bottom)
You will also see the DeltaE 2000 (or whichhever
method you have chosen) difference between the
original color and the updated color.
After building the library you can also see the CMYK
make up of the updated color.
46
Click on the colour you would like to edit and click the 'Edit'
button
*You can only edit one colour at a time.
You are then presented with the 'Edit Patch' window. you can
edit the colour by adding or removing CMYK, when you have
made any changes you would like click 'OK'
47
48
1 - Click the 'Add' button (use this if you know the Lab values
of the colours you would like to use)
2 - Measure the color with your Eye-One
First we will manually add colours by clicking 'Add'
Input the information for the Name of the colour and then
input the Lab information as required.
10
49
11
Repeat the process outlined above until you have all of the
colours you require
12
13
14
You can then 'Edit' the Information for the colour as required
by selecting the colour in the list and clicking the 'Edit' button
in the Top-right of the window
15
You can re-name the colour or even adjust the Lab values if
required
16

Close the Library manager and look at the list of libaries in the
Palette section of the software you will see your new library
listed.
You can select this library and use it in the same way as the
included Pantone Libraries.
51
Select the Library you want to edit from the Library drop down
menu
When the library has loaded you can add colours either by
using the Add button or by using the Eye-One to measure
colours.
*refer to section in this document 'Creating custom color
libraries'
52
When you have added all the extra colours you need you
need to save the library
In the New Library Save box give the library a name and click
Save
If you want to give the Library the same name as the existing
libray you will be prompted with a message explaining this,
just click OK
Your library has now been updated with the new colours
added
53
Select the Library you want add to from the Library drop
