INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Two closed green roll-up shades and one open one sit atop
three picture windows. The rolled up shade allows a lot of
sunlight into the room.
There is a couch. Sitting on it is Sara, a thirty-something
woman who prefers actual books to Facebook.
The deadbolt UNLOCKS. A moment later the doorknob turns. The
door opens and KEITH, mid-thirties, with a successful
businessman's posture, steps inside. He shakes the rain off
his umbrella, then rubs his hand over his hair, still wet
from the rain
Keith opens the door to the closet. He looks at the book in
Sarah's hand.
KEITH
Haven't you read that book before?
Sara doesn't look up from her book.
SARA
Maybe, so what?
Keith takes his coat off and hangs it up in the closet.
KEITH
100s of books in the world... and you
keep reading the same one over and
over!
SARA
Oh, yeah? How many times have you seen
300?
KEITH
(mimicking her)
How many times have you seen 300?
Keith hangs up the keys on the wall.
Keith walks back to the living room. He sits on the sofa,
almost violently, practically sitting on Sara as he does.
KEITH (cont'd)
Hi.
Keith picks up the Wii steering wheel. Starts playing video
game.
KEITH (cont'd)
(sarcastically)
This isn't bothering you is it?
Sara rolls her eyes, giggles slightly, and goes back to her
book.

KEITH (cont'd)
Ah, crap. Think I left the lights on.
He stands up and opens the front door.
The headlights glow in the darkness.
He sighs and goes outside. Sara listens to sound of FOOTSTEPS,
RAIN, car doors OPENING and CLOSING.
Keith steps back inside. He stops at the door, and looks at
the novel in Sara's hands.
KEITH (cont'd)
Haven't you read that book before?
Sara looks at him.
SARA
Seriously? Didn't we do this? We just
did this.
Keith looks confused for a second then breaks out in a smile.
KEITH
My bad... I'm just tired....

INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Keith climbs into bed and lays down beside Sara, who is also
wearing her pajamas, consisting of a shirt and shorts. Her
hair is done up in a cute bun, and she is still reading the
same novel.
SARA
Lock the door, babe?
KEITH
Yep.
SARA
Get the shades too?
Keith rolls over facing away from Sara. He nods, buit she
cannot see him.
SARA (cont'd)

Honey?
KEITH
Yeah, I got em, OK? Can we just go to
sleep?
Sara frowns, turns off the lamp, rolls over facing away from
Keith, and goes to sleep.
INT. BEDROOM - LATER
Keiths eyes snap open. He rolls over on top of Sara
His shadow moves a microsecond faster than he does. The
shadow wraps Kieths hands around Saras neck and begins
choking her.
Keith bounces Sara s head off the mattress several times,
till she lies dead, hanging off the bed.
Keith looks down at Sara, his hands still wrapped around her
neck. Her eyes are glassed over and her neck has ligature
marks from being strangled.
In horror, Keith scrambles off the bed and collapses to the
floor. Still on his hands and knees, he grabs his phone off
the nightstand, yanking the cord and charger block out of the
wall.
Mashing numbers on the phone, he frantically dials 911, but
it flies out of his hand out of the room before they can
answer. He races out of the bedroom.
INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT
Keith vomits into the sink.
Keith looks at his reflection in the mirror, covered in
scratches where Sara had tried to defend herself. He starts
screaming, then hits the mirror. It breaks. The glass cuts
his hand. A dribble of blood runs down his arm.
Mashing numbers on the phone, he frantically dials 911, but
it flies out of his hand out of the room before they can
answer.
He stops suddenly, apparently frozen in place. He lurches out
of the bathroom into

TO THE KITCHEN
INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
Keith trips over a kitchen chair and falls to the floor,
smearing blood on the linoleum.
The shadow drags him to the basement door and jumps to the
handle.Using the door handle, Keith pulls himself up to a
standing position. His body no longer in his control, he

akwardly turns the handle, opens the door, and stumbles down
the stairs.
INT. BASEMENT STAIRS - NIGHT
Keith Starts down the stairs, but loses his balance.
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Sara hangs off the bed, dead.
ANGLE ON: SARA S FACE
There is a TUMBLING sound, a CRACK, then Keith SCREAMS in
pain.
INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Juist outside the picture windows, Two men in suits look
through the window left uncovered by the shade. MURDOCK, late
40s-50s, the years on the force etched on his face, cups his
hands around his eyes and peers through the glass.
INSERT: SMASH-ZOOM TO THE BLOOD SMEAR AND TIPPED OVER CHAIR.
EXT. HOUSE - DAY
Murdock motions to EVANS, 20s-30s, who still looks young
and eager, as if the job hasnt destroyed his innocence.
MURDOCK
Shit. Get that door open.
EVANS
Without backup?
MURDOCK
Ill call for the backup. You get that
door open.
Evans hesitates a moment longer than Murdock is willing to
put up with. Murdock frowns at him and kicks the door in.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
The door splinters open from being kicked in. The two police
officers enter the house, guns drawn, but not pointing at
anything yet.
Evans and Murdock shine their lights around the room,
illuminating the dark corners.
A cat jumps out at them. Evans points the gun at the cat.
MURDOCK
Either shoot the cat or arrest it.
Otherwise ignore it and clear that
side.
Murdock motions for Evans to head into the kitchen. The smear

on the floor is obviously blood.

Evan disappears into the kitchen. He reaches out for the
chair, but stops. Cant disturb the crime scene.
Murdock heads into the hallway and sees the dried blood on
the cracked bathroom mirror. Closing the door marks the room
as clear.
He opens the last room in the hallway.
INT. BASEMENT STAIRS - DAY
Evans slowly makes his way down the stairs. As the stairs are
very steep, its not easy.
INT. BEDROOM - DAY
Murdock steps into the room and sees Sara hanging off the bed.
The pallor of her skin tells him she is past saving.
MURDOCK
Jesus.
Murdock crosses to where Sara is, and feels for a pulse out
of habit, but jumps a little when he feels her cold wrist.
Murdock stands up, backs out of the room, and closes the door

crouched in the corner, facing away from him, rocking back

Evans trains his gun on Keith.
EVANS

Keith cocks his head like a dog would after hearing a command
it does not understand. He slowly turns around, but does not
stand up.
EVANS (cont d)

Keith slowly starts to stand up by pulling himself up using

throat. Blood starts to spurt and ooze from the wound.
EVANS

Evans tries to catch the slumped body of Keith. He feels for

Murdock steps down the last few steps into a downstairs
living room. He moves slowly, apparently concerned by the
lack of response from Evans. Gun trained on the hallway that
splits into a bathroom and a laundry room, Murdock appears
around the corner and sees Evans standing over Keith s
slumped over body. Evans coat is lying on the floor.
Evans whips around to face him, the ridiculous grin on his
face now.
EVANS
Did you see what we did?
Evans raises his gun to shoot Murdock.
MURDOCK
Whoa kid, Its me!

Evans continues to raise his gun.

MURDOCK (cont d)

weapon. Two shots to the chest.
He rushes over to his bleeding partner.
MURDOCK (cont d)

EVANS

him. He stands up, dropping Evans to the cold floor and fires
