Analysis of IMT’s (Institute of Management And Technology) culture and structure on the basis
of following:

Personal Enactment
We know that culture can be understood, in part, through an examination of the behavior
of organization members and thus personal enactment is the behavior that reflects the
organization’s values and in particular, personal enactment by the top managers provides insight
into these values. Based on this the organization named Institute of Management Technology‘s
values can be analyzed as follows:

Vision: “To be the premier management and technology institution, a student. Focused learning
community, recognized for its research and teaching”

Mission: “To promote excellence in management and technology education, IMT prepares
students to be leaders who shape the future. Towards this end, IMT will provide a conducive and
rewarding environment for faculty and student to ignite and sustain a passion for excellence”

At IMT they don’t restrict the student’s growth to mere curriculum; instead they are
always looking for new ways to do things in line with a constantly changing world and ever
rising information levels.
What separates IMT from many other B- schools is the true camaraderie that exists among the
students and total dedication with which the students remain involved in the activities of the
institute despite the stiffly competitive atmosphere. The remarkable sense of community at IMT
starts in the classrooms, where students and faculty together and learn from each other. IMT
graduates, equipped with energy and wisdom, leave an indelible mark at their workplace,
demonstrating a passion for excellence.

Rites and Ceremonies

Relatively elaborate sets of activities that are enacted time and again on important occasions are
known as organizational ceremonies and rites. Ceremonies also bond organization members
together.

The rites and ceremonies at IMT can be described on the basis of the six kinds of rites that we
have in an organization which are as follows:

1. Rites of passage show that an individual’s status has changed, like at IMT with the
promotion of the faculties or at the time of their retirement from work there are
ceremonies for both.

2. Rites of enhancement reinforce the achievements of individuals, like at IMT the

students are rewarded on the basis of various achievements at the Convocation Ceremony
held every year. Besides this the students with highest marks are rewarded with
certificates at the INSTITUTE DAY.

3. Rites of renewal emphasize change in the organization and commitment to learning and
growth, like at IMT there is a consistent renewal over the years like the development of
the campus, new programs, IT Labs, Learning Resource Centres and International
Linkages.

4. Rites of integration unite diverse groups or teams within the organization and renew
commitment to the larger organization, like at IMT there are numerous events that help in
uniting the students, alumnus and faculties which are from different cultures and
backgrounds. Some of these rites are the sports events like “ Ranbhoomi” and
“Chakravyuh” the 3 day (72 hrs) non-stop sports festival, the in-house event like
“Milestone 34” and the inter college events like “Milestone 35” , “Tatva” and “Passion”.
The Alumni Meet is another event that unites the current students with the ex- students.

5. Rites of conflict reduction focus on dealing with conflicts or disagreements that arise
naturally in organizations, like at IMT there is a facility for students counseling which is
done with the help of skilled faculties.

6. Rites of degradation are used by some organizations to visibly punish persons who fail
to adhere to values and norms of behavior, like at IMT there are well defined rules and
regulations for any kind of misconduct or low performance in academics, in case of any
such misconduct strict actions are taken against the concerned person along with the
issuance of fines.

Stories and innuendos

The most effective way to reinforce organizational values is through stories, as stories
give meaning and identity to organizations and helps in orienting new employees. At IMT stories
are one of the most accepted teaching methodologies, the real life stories help in inculcating the
theories in various fields be it marketing, HR, or Finance. The stories can be of the alumnus who
succeeded in the corporate world, or stories of the corporate world, the regular industry
interaction through guest lecture is one such medium, stories about the leaders who rose from the
lower level to the top, stories about how the company deals with the crisis situation, and also the
stories telling the consequences if a particular rule is broken.

Symbols

The symbol of IMT has a flame rising from a chalice followed by the tagline “Lead the
Future”. The fire signifies the young student managers and the chalice is giving the direction to
them.
