stimulation. All our children of III and above classes will be taking the

work in Mathematics and Science which has to be done by children on

think and probe. Leave them alone. To Start thinking is more important

The festival of Dussehra has a special significance across the country. Due to India's varied culture
it is celebrated in a different manner in different states. But the fervor is same all throughout. In the state
of north India Dussehra celebration includes the Ram Lila, which the drama depicting the episodes from
the life of Lord Rama. Even in Delhi, many amateur troupes perform Ram Lila throughout the nine-day
worship of Goddess Durga. The tenth day is considered to the most important day when elaborate
processions lead to the Ram Lila grounds where immense cracker-stuffed effigies of the demon Ravana
and his brother and son are burnt. Dussehra celebration can also be witnessed in Kullu, a small town in
Himachal Pradesh. The celebration takes place for three days. The last three days are especially
considered most important. The nine-day is equally divided in worshiping three goddesses. The first three
days are dedicated to Goddess Durga. The next three days are spent in worshipping goddess Lakshmi
and the last three days are dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. The day after Navratri the festival of
Dussehra is celebrated.
In Tamil Nadu, the first three days are dedicated to the worship of Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth and
Prosperity, the next three days to Saraswati, Goddess of Knowledge and the last three days to Shakti
(Durga).
The festival of Navratri acquires quite a fascinating and colorful dimension in the region of Gujarat,
and in some parts of Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The Rasa and Garba dances by men and women of all
sects to please the Goddess. The Rasa has its origin in the life scenes of Lord Krishna and is associated
with the agricultural rites while Garba is performed only by men and is related with the fertility cult or the
mother aspect of Navratri. The Dussehra of Mysore or Mysore Dassara as it is famously called is a 10-day
long festival. On the day of Dussehra, a procession of caparisoned elephants carrying the idol of goddess
Chamundi is taken through the city. The festival is celebrated in a grand style with scores of cultural
performances in the great Durbar Hall of the Maharaja's Palace. On Vijaydashami, the 10th day of the
festival, a colorful procession featuring caparisoned elephants winding through the gaily-decorated
streets of the city, mark the occasion.
In East India
In the eastern state of West Bengal, Vijayadashmi is celebrated as the victory of Goddess Durga
over Mahishasura, the demon who ruled the swarglok and the earth with his invincible power. It is the last
day of the ten-day festival - Durga Puja. On Vijayadashmi, the idol of Ma Durga is immersed in the nearby
river or lake ceremoniously, by the devotees. This is called visarjan (submersion of diety). The idol is
preceded by a huge procession of devotees. In Orissa, the festival is called Vijoya Dashami. The day is
considered the last day of the Sharodiya Durga Puja. After offering the last ritual (Aparajita Puja) to the
Goddess, a tearful farewell is bid to her. The immersion of diety is known as 'Bisarjan Jatra'. After
immersing the idol, people in Orissa celebrate 'Ravan Podi', wherein the effigies of demon Ravana are
burnt.
In West India
In Maharashtra, On the last day of Navratri, that is Dussehra, the idols installed on the first day of
Navratri are immersed in water. Dussehra marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. They visit their
friends and relatives and exchange sweets. Aapta tree is worshipped on this day. Exchange of leaves of
aapta tree is considered auspicious. The legend of Shami tree, under which the Pandavas of Mahabharata
stored their weapons during their 12 years of exile, is associated with the celebrations.
Dassera day is considered a most auspicious day. It is a time-honored belief that if any new
venture is started on this day, it is bound to be successful. Hence, all the undertakings be it laying-in of
foundation of a new building, opening of a new commercial establishment or even initiating a child into
the world of learning- are started on this day. Also on this day implements of agriculture, manufacturer's
machines, the intellectuals pens, the household articles, the children's school books are placed before the
idol of Durga and worshiped. On the day of Vijayadashami, vidya aarambh (vidyaarambam) is observed.
The day is considered very auspicious, especially for the children to begin their education in academics as
well as art. Saraswati puja is done on Vijayadashami. A similar tradition can be seen in Kerala as well.
Ramzan :
Ramzan is celebtrated by Indians in the ninth month of Muslim Calendar Ramadan. It is believed that
Khoram was revealed to Prophet Mohammad in the last ten days of Ramadan. The month is observed as
a fasting month where muslims do not eat anything between sunrice and sunset. Fasting in done to
develop self control and get close to Allah. The last day of the Month is celebrated as Eid Ul Fitr or FastBreaking. Alms are given to the poor, special prayer meetings are held and community feastes are
enjoyed.
Eid ul Fitr or the 'festival of fast breaking' is most celebratory of all Muslim festivals. The
term 'Eid' has been derived from the Arabic word oud, which means the return and
signifies the return of the festival each year. The festival is significant as much for its
timing, as for its religious implications. It is celebrated after the fasting month of
Ramzan (the ninth month of the Muslim year), on the first day of the Shavval month of
the Hijri year (Muslim year). Legend says that the Koran was revealed to Prophet
Mohammed in the last ten days of Ramadan.
The month of Ramadan is historically associated with two important victories of Prophet
Muhammad - the battle of Badr and the conquest of Makkah. Fasting on Eid, according
to Islamic beliefs, helps in developing self-control and is a way of getting closer to Allah.
The festival marks the beginning of celebrations and merriment for a period extending
to three days. Women prepare sweets at home and all Muslims are seen adorned with
new dresses on this day. Eid ul Fitr is synonymous with joy and thanksgiving. Such is the
spirit of this great festival that even of lot of Hindus participate in Eid celebrations in
India.
India is the second most populous Islamic nation in the world. Muslims form Indias
largest minority and constitute almost 12% of the countrys total population. Islam is
also the most recent religion added to Indias already potent cultural concoction. Islam
came to India in the 12th century AD and began interacting with the Indian culture,
especially under the Mughals. Needless to say, it was a mutually enriching experience.
A majority of Indias Muslims live in the north, but a significant number are found all
across the country. Hence, their traditions add yet another dimension to the vast
cultural landscape of India.

SANKRANTHI
Makar Sankaranti marks the transition of the Sun into Capricorn on its celestial path.
This is significant, considering the Winter Solstice which marks the beginning of the gradual
increase of the duration of the day. Traditionally, this has been one of the many harvest days
in India.
The day on which the Sun begins its journey northwards is referred to as Makar Sankranti.
Sankramana means "to commence movement". Hence, the name Makar Sankranti is given to
one of the largest, most auspicious, but varied festivals in the Indian subcontinent. It usually
falls in the middle of January. Due to the geography and size of India, this festival is
celebrated for innumerable reasons depending on the climate, agricultural environm ent,
cultural background and location in the following states :In Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, Bundelkhand,
Tribals of Orissa, Assam, Coastal Region
P.T.O

The first day of festival is Bhogi. At dawn people light up a bonfire with several old articles
in their house. In many families they celebrate Bhogi pallu, in the evening. These are the regi
pallu with petals of flower and coins of money, will be put on the heads of kids(generally
younger than 3 years)(like talambralu) to get rid of Dishti(drushti). The second day is
Sankranti, the big festival, when everyone wears new clothes and pray to their favourite God
by offering them sweets. Kanuma Panduga (Kanuma) is less celebrated but is an integral part
of Sankranti culture. Mukkanuma is famous among the non-vegetarians of the society. People
do not eat any non-vegetarian during the first three days of the festival and eat it only on the
day of Mukkanuma.
Sankranti usually represents all the four days together. It is celebrated in almost every
village with adventurous games in South India. Whether it is the cock fights in Andhra, Bull
fighting in Tamil Nadu or Elephant Mela in Kerala, there is huge amount of illegal betting but
the so called tradition continues to play a major role in the festival. Another notable feature of
the festival in South India is the Haridas who moves around begging for rice wishing luck to
the household. Rangoli competitions too are a common sight. The entire month from midDecember to sankranthi is celebrated with giant rangolis in front of the house which are
drawn only at late night for the entire month. For all other days of the year, rangoli is typically
drawn in mornings only.

Dear Parent,
Sub : Imparting values.making a complete Man
We believe that education without ethical values is incomplete. So we intend to
leave, no stone unturned to impart complete education including imbibing moral values
in the students because we observed that the present generation is lacking in values
and social etiquettes. We at DPS not only make successful individuals but also good
humans.
Aiming at this, once in every fortnight a moral value is taken up and inculcated in
the students with a discussion on it and a few minutes are dedicated in the classroom
by the teachers revisiting the value to reinforce the implementation of it that fosters in
students an understanding for moral values including respect for differences, truth,
justice, patriotism, integrity, self-esteem, empathy respect for the family, property,
reliability and law.
We look forwarded for your kind co-operation
extending in all our endeavours. As you are also one of the stakeholders wed like you
to motivate and encourage the child and ensure the value given is followed at home to
make them a better humans respecting values and standing as an example to others.

Dear Parent,
A Warm Welcome to all of you to the Sports Day meet going to be held on Feb 6,2010. As our
celebrations start at 2:30pm, the morning session is declared as a non-working session. And the
buses start at 12:45pm at the first pickup point and drop the students as soon as the
programme is completed. All the children from classes 1 to 4 should be accompanied by the
parents. As we have many athletic events on that day, that requires a zealous performance,
needs the encouragement & cheer up of the fellow students which makes Saturdays
attendance mandatory for all the students.
All the prize winners have to be seated in the stipulated places, guided by the teachers
concerned. All the students participating in mass drill, march past and cultural events should
report to the respective teachers by 2 pm.
We solicit your presence to augment the jubilant celebrations of the 3rd Annual Sports Day.
