It is odorless, tasteless and not more than slightly fluorescent by
daylight, even when melted
It is poorly absorbed by the skin
It is also used in creams and transdermal formulations and as an
ingredient in lubricant formulation for medicated confectionery
together with mineral oil
2. Paraffin
Hard wax; paraffinum durum; paraffinum solidum; paraffin wax
Paraffin is a purified mixture of solid saturated hydrocarbons
It is obtained from petroleum or shale oil
Use: ointment base; stiffening agent
Paraffin is an odorless and tasteless, translucent, colorless, or
white solid
It feels slightly greasy to the touch and may show a brittle
fracture
Microscopically, it is a mixture of bundles of microcrystals
Paraffin burns with a luminous, sooty flame
When melted, paraffin is essentially without fluorescence in
daylight
A slight odor may be apparent
