Part 1 - Written Assessment Outline


This is a group assignment in which the group are to write an essay of between 2500 and
3000 words excluding appendices about how within their own organisations they identify,
agree and assess both team and individual performance objectives. They are also to
review their organisations disciplinary and grievance procedure explaining how this is used;
the review should also look at the effectiveness of these procedures and where necessary
recommend any changes which would improve the procedures effectiveness..
Your essay should be based on research, investigation and analysis which you have carried
out yourself making sure that you acknowledge sources and include appropriate references,
bibliography and appendices in support of your investigation and argument.
The essay will answer the following questions demonstrating your knowledge and
understanding of the topics covered by this unit.

Explain the links between the organisational objectives and the objectives set
for your team and the team members. Also identify the selection of individual
and team objectives for agreement and the individuals and team responsibility
in achieving these objectives. Finally identify the need to create an
environment of trust and support with others.
Explain how you will evaluate the performance of your team members, and
team evaluating methods to provide feedback to them in relation to their
performance against the agreed objectives. Explain the recording systems for
performance assessment for both individuals and teams.
Examine the causes of conflict, and strategies used to minimise or prevent
these within the organisation.
Examine how the performance improvement cycle can help support an
individual and the team to improve their performance. Discuss the indicators
of poor performance and evaluate a range of methods that supp0ort
performance improvement.
Discuss the organisations disciplinary and grievance procedures, examining
the managers role in implementing these. Summarise key aspects of
legislation to organisational disciplinary and grievance procedures.

Part 2 - Presentation Assessment Outline


The group are to produce a 20 minute presentation covering their answers to the five
questions contained in Part 1 of the assignment. The presentation should be a summary of
each question and highlight the major aspects contained within each question.
A copy of your presentation together with all supporting documentation is to be handed in at
the start of the presentation delivery.

General Instructions
When you present your work for assessment, the completed and signed statement of
authenticity must be attached. Your Tutor will then countersign this before it is submitted for
assessment.

You must also include an appendix that identifies the breakdown by assessment criteria of
how each member has contributed to this assignment. It is important to demonstrate how
every member of the group has contributed to all assessment criterias.
This may be in
either the essay or presentation or both.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO PROJECTS OR ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE MARKED UNTIL


EVERY CANDIDATE HAS HANDED IN THEIR WORK. IT IS IMPORTANT THEREFORE
TO KEEP TO THE DEADLINE AS A LATE SUBMISSION WILL AFFECT OTHER
MEMBERS OF THE COURSE.

To be awarded a pass you must be successful (pass) in each section of the assignment. If
your assignment is assessed as unsatisfactory, notification will be given to you by your tutor,
with an indication of the shortfalls in it. You may resubmit the assignment, or submit a new
assignment, on up to two occasions during your period of enrolment with the CMI.

If there is anything in these instructions or in the assignment itself which you do not
understand, please seek guidance from your tutor.
