Reflection (Microteaching)
My group had finally done with our micro teaching on writing. As for me, the overall
process of the micro teaching went well but surely not perfect because nothing in this world
is perfect. This imperfection is a sign that there is still room for improvement. Our group
decided to teach on topic People Around Me. I was glad to be partner with both Ray and
Loqman as they are very dedicated and supportive towards me and each other. Ray,
Loqman and I have gone through several discussion sessions and we exchange our own
opinion before we decided to choose the topic. This is because to make sure that we will
understand the topic clearly and as a result, we can teach the topic very well. We have
decided to choose Rays lesson plan as the topic chosen by Ray was simple but interesting.
One of the valuable lessons that I was able to reflect upon completing my
microteaching was that I realised how important it is to have a lesson plan in order for a
lesson to run smoothly. Without a proper lesson planning, the students lesson might be all
over the places. Therefore, it is vital for a teacher to have his lesson well prepared to ensure
a smooth flow in the students learning processes. Besides, lesson planning is also important
as it acts as a guideline for the teacher and thus can help the teacher during the whole
lesson.
After the microteaching was over, I finally understood the importance of having every
single element in the lesson plan; from the objectives to the activities planned, linked closely
with each other in order to create a logical flow in the whole lesson. The activities planned
must be closely related with the objectives chosen and the objectives too must be
interrelated with the curriculum specification. When everything is closely connected with one
another, the teacher can carry his lesson smoothly and the chances of students achieving
the objectives are high. Furthermore, it also ensure the teacher knows the insight of the
lesson and thus, the teacher can prepare the teaching aids and materials before start the
lesson.
While conducting the simulated teaching, we were evaluated by our beloved lecturers
which were Madam Razimah and Madam Hasnah. They were very sporting and gave us a
lot of tips and constructive comments to us. Plus, we also learnt a lot of new things base on
the feedback given by our lecturers. Firstly, on developing activity, the lecturers praised our
lesson as it met the requirements of the syllabus and also content standards. They also said
that we were creative, used varied resources and the lesson also was interesting.
Furthermore, the lecturers also praised our creativity as we successfully made the lesson
more interesting. This is because we started the lesson with picture puzzle and this activity
surely will make students excited and give full attention during the lesson. Plus, the song that

we selected and used during the while activity was also praised by our lecturers as they said
that the song was catchy and most important thing is it was related to the lesson. However,
there is also area that we need to work on which is the lecturers said that we should focus
and give more input on how to write rather than other things. From the feedback, the
lecturers have said that our lesson was more focus on other things such as vocabularies
rather than teach students how to write. Thus, in order to improvise in the future, we must
make sure that we give more input to the students on writing. Plus, the lecturers also said
that we can improvised our lesson by emphasising more on simple sentences. Base on the
feedback given, the lecturers commented that the sentences taught by us were a bit
complex sentences and might not suit the Year 3 students. Furthermore, the lecturers also
said that before we teach sentences to the students, we must make sure that we have gave
them enough vocabularies and taught them thoroughly during the pre-writing post. The
lecturers commented that we did not gave the students enough input on the sentences given
and it might confused and will make students do not understand the sentences given.
On procedures in carrying out the activity, the lecturers said that there were clear
procedures and well sequenced steps as we followed the steps based on the lesson plan.
Before the day of our microteaching presentation, we have practiced thoroughly in order we
to make sure we did not miss any stages of teaching. Nevertheless, there are also area that
we need to improve which is we must make sure meaningful application could be added at
the end or final stage. For example, we must make sure that the students can apply the
lesson into their daily life. On simulated teaching aspect, the lecturers said that overall our
lesson was systematic and learner-centred. This is essential as a properly implemented
student-centred learning can lead to increased motivation to learn, greater retention of
knowledge, deeper understanding, and more positive attitudes towards the subject being
taught (Collins & O'Brien, 2003). Plus, the lecturers also praised us because we managed to
control the behaviour of the students and we feel blessed and grateful as we managed to
apply what we have learnt on Classroom Management subject on the previous semester.
On the individual aspect, the lecturers said that I need to be more energetic and creative
during teaching in order to make the lesson more alive and interesting. During the
presentation, I presented on while stage and during this stage, I need to play the video clip
and sing along with the students. I admit that during the sing along part, I did not sing and do
much movements because I forgot the songs lyric. As a result, I look rigid during the sing
along part. As result, I need to work on my teaching skills in the near future in order to make
sure that I do not look rigid during teaching anymore. Nevertheless, the lecturers have
praised me because I managed to excite the students with the activity and exercise given.

To wind up, there is still a lot of area which I need to work on in order to be a better
teacher. My journey is still far ahead from becoming not only an educator but an inspiring
and motivating educator for future generations. The whole process of the microteaching had
eventually open my eyes to the reality that becoming teacher is not an easy task because it
is someones future that is on stake and one small prick could spoil a childs future. Lastly, I
hope that I will become a great teacher in the near future.
