How to Measure
A tape measure is a necessary audit tool and is the basis for confirming actual
garment measurements against specified measurements at various stages of
the manufacturing process.
Description
The best tape measure to use is a metal tape measure, as it does not tend to
stretch or distort.
Requirements
2
3
4
Alternate
Measuring Tool
Metal templates are an excellent source for measuring. They must be checked
weekly for bent or damaged edges or surfaces. All sewing guides, gauges, and
templates should be checked weekly or any time off specification
measurements are noted during the manufacturing process
Unacceptable
Measuring
Tools
Cardboard or any masking tape is not ideal material for measuring as both
damage and wear easily. Humid climates tend to further deteriorate the
cardboard and tape more rapidly.
Note:
This section describes the various ways to measure woven and knit garments.
Each illustration will have an illustration number next to it. Please refer to
these illustration numbers when referencing corresponding spec instructions.
Note: This section combines knits and wovens. Areas of measure have been
color coded as follows:
Text appearing in red pertains to knits only.
Text appearing in blue pertains to wovens only.
Text appearing in black pertains to both knits and wovens.
Refer to the yellow highlighted arrows for specific locations of measure.
