Computer Applications in Society


The computer has changed society today as much as the industrial revolution changed the
society in eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
People interact directly with computers in fields such as education, finance, government,
health care, science, publishing, travel and manufacturing. In addition, they can reap the benefits
from breakthroughs and advances in these fields.
1. Education
Education is the process of acquiring knowledge. In the traditional model, people learn
with other people such as parents, teachers, and employees. Many forms of printed materials like
books and manuals are used as learning tools. Now, educators are turning to used computers to
assist with education.
Many schools equip their labs and classrooms with computers. Students use software to
accomplish their activities and assignments. As we can see, our school is one of it like where we
are exactly now.
2. Finance
Many people and companies use computer to help manage their finances. Some uses
finance software to pay bills (online payment), monitor personal income and expense, manage
their investments and evaluate their financial plans.
3. Government
A government provides a society with direction by making and administering policies.
Almost all government departments have their websites to up-date the citizens with the
information they needed to know. We access these websites to file taxes, apply for permits and
licenses, report crimes and registration.

4. Health Care
We could say directly that whatever you are engage in regarding your health, computer is
just behind you. Medical staffs use computers for various purposes such as assistance during
operations, doing medical tests and monitoring for recovery.
5. Science
All branches of science, from biology to astronomy to meteorology, use computers to
assist them with collecting and analyzing data. Breakthrough in surgery, medicine and treatment
result from computers. There are small cameras that enough to swallow it is called a camera
pill it takes pictures inside your body to detect cancer and other abnormalities.
6. Publishing
Publishing is the process of making works available to the public. These works include
books, magazines, newspapers, music, films and videos. Special software assist graphic
designers in developing pages that includes text, graphics and photos; artists in composing and
enhancing songs and; filmmakers in editing and creating films.
7. Manufacturing
Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) refers to the use of computers to assist with
manufacturing processes such as fabrication and assembly. CAM is used by a variety of
industries, including oil drilling, power generation, food production and automobile
manufacturing.
